Kurtzman was obsessed with getting out of the comic book ghetto and doing material for adults, a big reason of why he wanted to transform Mad into a "slick" magazine. In Playboy Hefner published, among others, Shel Silverstein, Brad Holland, Jules Feiffer, Norman Mailer, Woody Allen and Kurt Vonnegut. Imagine what Trump could've evolved into had it survived a little longer.

@@luciferfernandez7094 It was Help, but that's a great point. Crumb, and a lot of future underground cartoonists like Jay Lynch, Gilbert Shelton, and Skip Williamson appeared in Help through the Public Gallery and might've continued on, with Crumb having shown up, as you say, because Kurtzman hired him as assistant editor. Kurtzman was their hero, and if they'd all signed on to Trump or Help, what would've happened to the Underground Comix movement?

@@nicolopolo77 The notoriously cheap Warren gave Help a pathetic budget, yet still Kurtzman was a magnet for some incredible talent that went on to legendary status. Gloria Steinem worked for him there !

I've become pretty obsessed with Kurtzman's work as of late. Now I have another book to track down.

Interesting compilation! At first, on seeing the playing card motif guy blowing the trumpet, I thought it was on POTUS 45... Same hair.

I want to start drawing comics. Can I start with small brushes or should I practice drawing with pencils first?
