Hey Jim & Ed, I got to hang out with Jaime & Gilbert on that Love and Rockets tour in 1992. Funny story, they were scheduled to do a signing at the store I worked at (The Great Escape in Louisville Ky) and the mgr Mark asked me to go with him to pick them up at the airport. Mark was a big fan but I knew nothing about Love and Rockets at the time and I figured they were just a couple of weirdos from California . So, while I am waiting at the airport I read one issue of L&R so that I could at least carry on a conversation with them. Gilbert & Jaime show up and thankfully Mark does all the talking, and at one point Mark says that I was going to take them out to dinner that night. I had NO INTEREST in hanging out with these guys. What did I do? I made up an excuse that I had prepaid for the Julio Cesar Chavez pay per view middleweight fight that night. Gilbert and Jaime overhear what I tell Mark about the fight and they say "you're a fight fan? Man, do you know how we have been on the road to comic shops and nobody has been s a fight fan" We get to talking and I find out these guys are cool, so, I tell them I will record the fight and we go out to dinner (with another employee Chip) to a BBQ place that has a bunch of Muhammad Ali stuff. Gilbert wants to go to a strip club after but I was recently married and didn't know how that would play at home. What did we do? we went up to their hotel, watched nightmare on Elmstreet while the guys were drawing an issue of L & R in the Room! How cool is that! Next day was the signing and Jaime & Gilbert had a great turnout, they also did a drawing for me. We even got mentioned in an issue of Love & Rockets! Definitely one of the best memories of my time working at the store. One more thing, years later I called Eric Reynolds at Fantagraphics (he was our promotions contact at Fantagraphics) and I asked him for Gilberts phone number because i was interested in buying a piece of art (before the internet) Eric says "sure" and I call Gilbert and tell him my name and that I met him in Louisville and he says "Yeah, you were the boxing & BBQ guy" It was nice to know that it was a good memory for Los Bros Hernandez as well! cheers Shawn

I got OUT of comics years ago because this kind of content and community DIDN'T exist, at least nowhere I could find it. I am so damn glad you guys are creating this channel, this community, and this kind of dialogue with the medium/craft itself.

How this channel has (currently) under 10,000 subs is beyond me. All of these shoot interviews feel so genuine and are really just any comics fans dream. It's great to be in time where we can see this caliber of cartoonist, interviewed by this caliber of cartoonist. Thanks for all the work fellas!

I was browsing through Harry Lucey Archie Comics while listening to the interview and it all makes sense now. I can totally see the influence. Great interview, as always.

Thanks for the interview! I have been a fan since the Brothers published the fanzine version of Love and Rockets and sold it via an ad in one of the comics 'zines. Love and Rockets is the only comic that I have every issue of!

For the record: Jim Saltzer's Music Emporium in the Carriage Square Shopping Center, Oxnard was the headshop referenced. It later expanded as Jim Saltzer's Mercantile at Victoria Avenue and 101.

There was one about the lemon Grove. I sat in the library trying to forget that was sleeping on the streets of Mesa AZ for another night. Love and Rocket was a good book that was available to look at while I was waiting to die.

Jim, were you referring to the "Historietas" that were profiled in the Imp? I think that's just an informal genre name, but those things look both supernaturally lurid and supernaturally stupid at the same time. If you have any, I'd love a Show and Tell.

Yes. I have a few. I'm sure they'll make it on camera sooner or later. - Jim
