As one of the creators of this comic book, this was a hoot to watch! That was the first cover Ken Meyer Jr painted for us, he had done a Ghost Rider story and a painted sci-fi short for Open Space (as well as Adolescent Radioactive Blackbelt Hamsters) when I saw his art at a San Diego Comic-Con art show and hired him for Rock 'N' Roll Comics - solid Joe Paradise artwork, and a script by the late Michael K. Willis from legendary San Diego comic shop Comics Etc (where I also worked), I think his first story for us as well (he also wrote our Spike Lee, Elton John, and U2 comics). A little something few know - long before cofounding Image, teenage Jim Lee was a comic subscriber at our Mira Mesa comic shop, our store newsletter contained his first "published" artwork, so the Image bio comics author Mike Willis wrote his scenes of teen Jim Lee from memory! I should mention in response to the comments about how Valentino was depicted that I'm also the guy who replaced Valentino working in the warehouse at Pacific Comics in the early 80s - he took off to make comics and I got his old gig at the home of Jack Kirby's Captain Victory, etc. I've been a fan of his since his first locally published San Diego 'zines - the way he was drawn was simply in keeping with the tone of that whole issue of Contemporary Bio-Graphics (the print run you speculate on was around 20,000 copies, very low compared to Rock 'N' Roll Comics, which was going out at 60,00 per and up). Anyway, glad you seemed to at least somewhat enjoy our 30 year-old comic!

I love the looks into comics culture. If you haven’t already, you should go through a Comic’s Buyer’s Guide from the Image startup era.

I read a lot more Image these daze than the big 2! Great variety of creative comics and far and away better than they started! Great 👍 video! Definitely read and make YOUR OWN comics!

It’s the 35 anniversary of JoJos this year! Araki launched his own magazine in honour. It’s a great time to be a comic reader! It would be cool if image did something like that….

Yup those were the days when you get 15 xmen books in a year because comics comes out 2x a month in summer months of America. I just exhaled a deep sigh that 30 years have passed. Thanks guys for a walk in memory lane. Appreciated. Be safe. Mabuhay!

I was really hoping they would’ve touched more on Valentino (inserting bad joke…) But it’s clear the creators of that book think little of him!
