Today Jared begins work on the 1978 Ferrari 308GTB that Tavarish bought for CarTrek Season 4. Originally built inspired by Cannon Ball Run, it has a high strung engine, and had a ton of interior electronics its new owner, David the‪@CarWizard‬ has been painstakingly removing and restoring back to its original glory.
During David's work, he and his team had installed a new fuel injection system onto the Ferraris engine, but sadly the computer was barely operating better than the original carburetors. Enter Holley Performance and Holley EFI, with their universal EFI systems. Jared is removing all of the old new fuel injection, and converting it to run on Holley!

I can see why Holley agreed to come on board for this project; obviously for Jared and the 308, it's a chance to do something unique and ground-breaking, show off the channel with official support from a big name company, but for Holley it's a chance to do some prototyping and product development into a potential new market and see new way to apply their products, which is really cool to see all round.

Installing EFI on engines other than what's listed on the companies web site is a easier than most people think. ...(I've been tuning Holley EFI on Motor Cycles for almost 12 years)...

@@KCadbyRacing I suspect it’s one of those things that’s easy when you know how. I could probably install the mechanical parts, but creating the tune for the ecu would be a very steep learning curve.

I won't/can't disagree @@deaks25 but don't forget there's a lot of free support (great videos on YTube)... I'm lucky that I don't normally get headaches (been years since I've had one) but I'm not kidding when I say, I got at least 5-6 headaches when I first started learning the software. And then after that, it took several months to get my first tune "completed" (A/F on Target through all four seasons, without Closed Loop correcting more than 10% [-5,+5%]). And now, almost twelve years later, I'm still learning, but that's mainly because Holley (and the others) keep adding features👍

I've never had any super special connection to supergramps, but always loved the concept, as well as what I assume is the replacement But it's videos and moments like this that keeps me coming back, this channel, more than any other, has never forgotten the concept of enjoying the cars That exactly the moments on the windy roads, feeling the car is what it's all about (or driving intensely down a few hundred meters of straight if that's your thing) I feel almost every other channel has forgotten this in some way or another, and it's the reason I keep coming here I recently lost my license, and will probably be without for quite a while, and I'm just now realizing the consequences of this, not just practically but for the times driving is for everything else than practical reasons, and this is probably where I'm gonna have to go when I miss the driving And most of all I recognize that connection with a car that is just a material item, but can still have so much more value than just the tasks it can help ease or complete. Edit: I see that because I posted the comment in between two videos it was posted on the "wrong" video Honestly doesn't change much, Jared has that same love for the cars that the original channel has, and to me that's why I keep coming back to both

I came here (and sub-ed) because of KSR Kevin's video (and my love for Holley EFI). For those wondering/asking what else Holley EFI might work on? My short answer is: "ECUs don't know what they are connected to" (until you configure what it is in the software [if possible]). I've been tuning Holley EFI on Motor Cycles for almost 12 years and one of the things I have always loved about them (support, Engineers) is how they have always been open to helping me with the teething issues I had on different bikes (which helped them improve the software/firmware over the years as well). The only setting Holley had for our Inline 4-cyl. back then (V2 software) was 1-pulse/fire = we had to grind all but two teeth off of the crank rotors (1-tooth left on for Cyl. 1-4, then 180* later, tooth-2 for Cyl 2-3). It did take quite a while but (even though the bikes all ran Very Well on 1-pulse/fire) I couldn't have been happier when the 12-1 and 24-2 configs were added ❤

FYI with the Holly, I remember david having trouble with that on roadkill, you need to make sure it always stays plugged up and charged or it forgets the tune, as they had to redo it on a car that was sitting before dragweek, and its a ferrari so its going to sit, either that or copy the tune onto a flash drive once its tuned and running

One quick question. 360 degrees / 60 teeth = 6 degrees per teeth, no? So 195 degrees / 6 degrees per teeth = 32.5 teeth, which also makes more sense since 195 degrees is obviously a little over half a rotation. I'm sure you still figured it out one way or another, but just something I caught. Really awesome conversion and I honestly thought Wizard should have gone with modern EFI in the first place. Re: The air gap/feeler gauge problem. Your solution was very elegant and tidy. Not being a capable or as imaginative as you, I would have had to take a hole saw to make a two-inch hole in the top of the cover to insert my feeler gauge, then mount a spring clip on the plug from the hole saw to reseal the hole. Your way is better.

To set the sensor gap, you should have bottomed it out, done the nut up till it was touching the cover, then thread the sensor out and use the feeler gauges between the lock but and the timing cover.

Ok, this is exciting! Love Wizard’s 308 ( really all 308’s) and Holley EFI. I put a sniper on my Cougar and it really woke it up. New subscriber now.

That weird firing order is that still weird if you look at it as 2 separate inline 4 engines instead of 1 V8 engine? Cause apparently that's how this engine was designed, as 2 inline 4's stuck together.

Exactly how it makes sense, two 4 cylinders opposite of each other!

The TEC III is from Electromotive who was a US company from Manassas Virginia. I've tuned one for an AMC 258. If you can understand Holley, you can understand Electromotive. Started out being way before their time, but failed to evolve their product. The VE approach they used was a good one. But their products always had a bit of a "good enough for who its for" quality to them. They tried but missed.

I spent a fair bit playing with it, and wasn’t making much progress, it also was limited to batch fire fuel and ignition, and I figured if we are going modern, let’s go all the way!

Nice job man!! I'm about to toss the antiquated dirty old Motronic ECU's in my Ferrari 348 into the garbage and dial in a modern ECU. Too many issues with all that old tech, the new ECU's are so good, definitely good to run wide band o2 sensors too, much more efficient and relaible than the old MAF system and so forth. Inspiring stuff, can't wait to see the finished tune!!

7:00 spraying fuel on closed valve is better than spraying on open valve. In that case fuel has more time to vaporize. HP academy has article about injection angle. Duration of time when valve is open is very short in relation to time when injector is open in high rpm. In 6.5 kRPM engine cylinder do one cycle (2 crank rotations - 4 stroke engine) in 20ms typical injectors are matched to engine power to open for 16-18 ms on WOT.
