What does the brand HPR mean on back of leather cartridge box

A pretty good video. Don't rush through your name and rank. ;) the speed and cadence at 01:50 is good. Were the wooden blocks the same ones that it was shown how to make in a earlier video? Can you show the way an officer would arrange his belt with the cartridge box because of the revolver added. Or do you use a cross draw?

Thank you very much for the pointer and will take the advice! The wooden blocks used I believe were ones 1st Sgt, Koepp might have made a while back or they may be the ones that came with the box. It has been sometime since I have had that particular box. I would be happy to do up a video of my sword belt set up. Typically I prefer the common cross draw since I have a odd issue. I shoot right handed with long arms yet I shoot pistol better with my left... odd I know but this method also works for me being my "sword" hand is my right. Capt. Whitehall

Yes.

Would the same cartridge box be used for regular infantry in the confederate army or would they have used something different from what sharpshooters had.
@CompanyD2ndUSSS4 жыл бұрын
They would have been issued what ever the confederate quartermaster system would haven given them. This cartridge box (M1862 Sharps) was used by the US sharpshooters. Typically the confederates had knocknoff or copied variations of the 1855 and 1861 pattern US Cartridge boxes.

Confederate sharpshooter's were called rifleman that's why you see the R on both union and Confederate buttons, and they would of used the cartridge box of that time period a rifleman probably got issued the sling with the US eagle emblem on the chest unlike your common Infantry which got the cartridge box that had the US plate that looks very similar to a union belt buckle on there cartridge boxes I did a video on buckles and cartridge box plates of the Civil War

Where can I buy reproduction the paper box for the .58 cal. also need the wood blocks
@CompanyD2ndUSSS4 жыл бұрын
Only Sharps used wooden blocks because they were needed to protect the fragile linen round. It's also why Sharps arsenal packs were in cardboard boxes. Arsenal packs for the .58 were just paper wrapped. There are some videos on how to make them but a place called The Jefferson Arsenal makes kits with everything you need to make your own.

So I have a question about the cartridge boxes, what is that little pouch in the front for, I haven’t been able to figure it out
@samuraibounds4 жыл бұрын
Used for storing musket tools. In an ideal world every soldier got musket tools but it's likely many had to share.

None that we can find. They were either issued the sharps box or were issued standard infantry boxes.

1st Sgt. here, I bought mine from C&D Jarnigan www.jarnaginco.com/catframe.html I'm sure there are other sutlers that might sell them. You can email the Captain directly anytime. His email is on our homepage at www.2ndUSSS.com

That's a cartridge pouch not a box; a cartridge box is a piece of wood with holes drilled in it with a leather flap over the top .
