Murray Siple's feature-length documentary follows a group of homeless men who have combined bottle picking with the extreme sport of racing shopping carts down the steep hills of North Vancouver. This subculture depicts street life as much more than the stereotypes portrayed in mainstream media. The film takes a deep look into the lives of the men who race carts, the adversity they face and the appeal of cart racing despite the risk. Shot in high-definition and featuring tracks from Black Mountain, Ladyhawk, Vetiver, Bison, and Alan Boyd of Little Sparta.
Directed by Murray Siple - 2008 | 59 min

My mom was diagnosed with ALS in 2020 and I moved back home to take care of her. She lost her voice, her body, everything. Completely paralyzed except for the eyes. A couple months before she passed in my arms, we took her to the park in her wheelchair. There was a very small hill and I hopped on the back and we rolled down the hill, not very fast at all, but when we did, my mom let out a loud yell, but not one of anguish that we were so used to, but excitement. She had the biggest smile on her face and we laughed together for a short while. That was the last time I heard my mom happy. It's incredible the power of adrenaline. God bless everyone involved in this doc. Gotta come back and cry happy tears to it every once in a while.

Lost my mom not to ALS but to brain cancer ...she died within 6 months and I too saw her decline from a healthy vibrant person to not being able to walk or get out of bed ....my mom passed in February 2019 at 51 ...I wish I could say it gets easier but it never does ....u just learn to live with that emptiness inside .... I moved back with my mom to take care of her as well and I admire the fact that u did ....that's what us kids are supposed to do ...our moms sacrificed and took care of us the least we can do is return the favor ....I appreciate the cool story and it made me smile and think of my mom ...hope ur doing good and I wish u all the best ... cheers 🥂

I can so relate.. I'm a former bank robber and after prison none would hire me,plus I stayed drunk...but then something happened..I realized the party was over( I'm one of the lucky few that even survived morphine addiction as well).. living on the streets means the longer your there means the more your ok with it...but somehow I met a beautiful young lady 5 yrs younger and she brought me to her place...I cleaned up ( took many years) and now I manage a fkn cash register at a pay lake and I can fish every day if I want and my p.b. this year was a 52 lb cat fish. I even have a 2 story home on the river now.. sometimes miss my homeless friends and late night drinks but I don't miss the hard job it was just to survive day to day...it's a hard hard hard way to live at the pleasure of freedom is what takes us back...so now my freedom comes with working hard.grilling bbq chicken for my kids and teaching them how to fish ans as a bonus I've got a wonderful woman I can snuggle with at night...the movie so hit home....thanks to all who contribute to this film..it hit home and brought a tear ....hope those guys are doing well or atleast at peace...ide love to drop them off a few beers and some smokes just to show my appreciation!!!..

This is right up there with those Louis Theroux docs, but way better produced, and a more compassionate and stark feeling. I connected so much with the themes of loss, freedom, and the things that trap us in this life. This isn't just the best documentary on KZbin. This might be the best documentary of a generation. I worked as a shopping cart collector at Walmart for 2 years…. I’ve never loved those carts more as I have today. I hated when the homeless people would leave then 3 blocks away and me and my crew would have to walk for 15 mins to get 2 carts. But riding those carts back to the store was the same rush as these gents get. God bless democracy and god bless these men. I got pay $11 an hour to push these carts into a building. They get payed more to use them to collect cans. Maybe we were the ones in the wrong….

@@cslantz4020 have you? its called life exp and i see it in most ppl,,they fell like they have no reason to live unless they have a job and stay out of the house,,,now if you ask me i hate working,,i hate it so much having to get up early ,having to slave so many hours for others 5 days a week, sure i had ppl tell me they feel the same but they do not come close to how much i hate it because i lost many jobs due to this ,i always get there late or take more breaks and cheat and do many things that other who claim are the same will never do,that is how much i fucking hate it,i feel like i am in a prison and cant wait to get home the minute i arrive to work ,i much rather stay home all day or go fishing or do whatever i want with my freedom ,many are going nuts with this virus shutting things down but im having a blast enjoying being home and getting paid with no one bothering me asking me why im not looking for work and no im not bored i love it, ,getting up late ,doing whatever i want whenever i want etc ,so yeah i know many ppl unlike me who enjoy 9-5 ,i fucking hated school and i hate work and from what i have seen in general ppl love working and can not do without ,there are very rare few ppl like me who can't stand it

This is the most soulful documentary that I've ever watched. It was truly touching. Certain scenes transported me right back to times when I was younger, before the life had been drained out of me. This also reminded me of me and my friends, past and present. How free you can feel while doing what you love, hanging out with your friends and dwelling in the bush. I miss those times, however it's made me recall these memories in such a fond way. These memories, I've previously pushed from my mind in favour of forgetting the fact that it's all in the past now, but for some reason I see them in a different light after watching this. Those memories now remind me that a life like that happened, that it was possible and that it still is. Life is to be appreciated and cherished. I should - and I can - have fun with what I do again. This documentary was a great reminder of that. The people featured in the documentary (everyone featured, including the filmmaker) are wiser than anyone would know. Truly beautiful human beings with beautiful souls. I truly wish the best for them. They've reminded me of some pretty important things which I've forgotten about after sitting around for years during quarantine. I wish I could personally thank them. What this documentary has made me realise is that no matter how old I get, no matter what happens to me or no matter what comes my way, I can always get back the life and soul that used to fill me. I can still enjoy my life, not everything has to be dull just because of the bad things that have happened to me. Thank you for reminding me. A random KZbin recommendation has made me realise all this. Haha, life works in funny ways sometimes. That's why life is so good I suppose.

A bunch of friends of mine used to smoke bowls and ride carts in the mall parking lot in the 90s. They had a little ravine with a hill. We'd jump before the fence and keep going until the cops came or we were threatened with cops. We'd hit maybe 20-30km/h at best so nothing like these guys. I love the NFB. They have some real gems in the collection.

I remember when the K-mart X3 cart had hella stats. Now it's outdated and everyone is getting those slick n fancy Walgreens F2-40 2018 model carts. Of course, I always like to stick with my Costco VF 720 Pro model cart. I know the "Pro" model is overrated but I think the extra traction and power steering comes in handy when pairing up against racers running Walmart T-pep series.
