out of the top players i like to listen to Caruana the most. -straight talking and serious, always trying to minimize BS, maximize useful infomation -level headed, no bad moods (Carlsen, Kramnik ), no gripes , not overally happy / hyped / no stream of superlatives ( levi gotham ) -no quirks / idiocrasy of personality. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but many intellectuals have nerdy personas ( david Howell ), Caruana does not. - no axe to grind ( grudges ) - not verbose ( Nakamura ) - humble ( as apposed to egotistic e.g. Kasparov ) - not delusional can anyone fault the man?

Frack humble. The important properties of Caruana is decency, honesty, and consideration. Humble is a bs word for losers.

Caruana saying top rating is not his goal WCC is while Alireza saying WCC is not his goal top rating is...Such a different thinking of two different generation players.
@TheAluvisify7 ай бұрын
I don't think it has to do with generations. Magnus was the same way. Top rating was more important than the WCC for him.
@damiester17 ай бұрын
@@TheAluvisify That's different since Magnus already won 5 WCCs. Alireza aiming for the top rating despite not having won the WCC is a new mindset for players.
@TheAluvisify7 ай бұрын
@@damiester1 It's not different. I'm literally talking about Magnus when he was 18. He was rank one in the world for 4-5 years before he became World Champion. He somewhat infamously refused to attend the 2011 Candidates because he didn't like the WCC cycle, despite being the no. 1 player in the world.
@strikercool9117 ай бұрын
What? alireza is also aiming for the world championship title, it's just that to qualify to the tournament that allows him to do so he would need the top rating spot to get to the candidates!!!!!

What I respect and admire about Magnus and Fabi is their directness. Very honest and forthright with their opinions. Fabi is smooth, likable and down to earth, while Magnus can be a little prickly at times. Very different characters, and the chess world is damn lucky to have them both.

Fabi deserves becoming world champion as he was by far the best performer in a match with Magnus. Who knows, if the tie break would have been played in classical chess and not rapid, maybe Fabi would have beaten Magnus. He was very close to a win in some later games, as the pressure on Magnus was rising... I hope he will make it some day.

@NotoriousKhamid7 ай бұрын
Me too, I'd love him being a WC. But I would also enjoy Hikaru becoming classical and 960 champion. As the top chess streamer, he would publicize chess even more than any other olay in the post-Magnua era. Just think of him playing Ding, and making recaps of the games! 😂 That would be history 😂

@manciano20097 ай бұрын

Is Ding doing a Bobby Fischer? Will he refuse to defend his world title?
@tuberaxx6 ай бұрын
The difference is that Ding is not the best player in the world. Magnus didn’t play Ling and even Magnus says that Fabiano is the second best classical chess player in the world at present. It’s not the same magnitude as when Fischer didn’t defend his title.

One match with Ian & Ding has been missing. I wonder what those who were angry with the 5-time World Champion Magnus for not playing in the WCC will have to say now.

He's mentioned he's been having health issues. Out of curiosity, you could speculate that it's likely to be one thing or another - one of them cannot be mentioned or the trolls come out, it's one of the most common "things" these days. Hopefully he can recover and make a strong showing at Wijk aan Zee.
