Talk about dense. I have watched almost all your videos, many of them more than once, Some of the ones that looked easier to me I tried to carve along but it always seamed awkward to me. Today it finally hit me that you are carving left handed and I am trying to follow along right handed. Now I guess I have to watch your videos in a mirror or something. It took me a while but the light bulb finally came on, Smiley face!
@KevinCoates986 жыл бұрын
I understand they may be hard to follow. I being left handed and you being right handed. Then again the videos probably aren’t don’t as well as they could be. Most times I’m in a hurry when doing things. Trying to get one thing done to move on to something else. I will try to make them easier to follow from here on if possible

I enjoy the videos and now that I know there is a twist It will make it easier to follow. Thanks for taking the time to share your talents,

I'm a right handed too, what works for me is only focussing on the technique rather than the direction of the cut

@@KevinCoates98 I am having trouble finding CLEAR WHITE PINE, any suggestions?
@KevinCoates985 жыл бұрын
The white pine I use comes eastern Canada. Not sure what province. Somewhere from Quebec to Nova Scotia

I see you use a bigger knife, but what smaller carving knives, gauges do you use. Just bought the Ramsel start kit and flex knives

Another awesome carving! What wood are you using? Also, which country do you live in as I know wood differs around the world I.E. I don’t think bass wood in the U.K. is the same as in USA? I’ve watched a lot of carving videos and you definitely manage to create the most facial detail, really characterful faces, nice job 👍

Jinx Ster nearest to bass wood i can get in uk is lime wood...

Thanks. I live on the island of Newfoundland, Canada 🇨🇦. There’s very little to pick from when it comes to good wood for carving here where I live. I use white pine that’s shipped in from Nova Scotia
@jinx64936 жыл бұрын
Richard West Yeh, I’ve ordered basswood online but it doesn’t seem like soft wood, not sure if it was kiln dried (didn’t state it had been on packaging etc). I have brand new good quality knives from English and Swiss companies, so they are sharp... maybe it’s my hand strength but certainly doesn’t seem as easy to carve as it looks on the videos I’ve watched 😢
@40freck6 жыл бұрын
Jinx Ster yes I agree it does seem a lot softer on the videos🙂, I’ve been toying with the idea of using poplar from local timber merchants.
