Kelley you don't only receive your ancestors genes you also are given their thoughts and memories. This is a little known secret in life. The more you peel away the more will be revealed to you. My memories and knowledge go back as far as the Vikings and Picts. As you get older and you resist the modern noise your search will bring you great peace and happiness. The force will just pour out of you. Most people have lost the wildness, you haven't and that is why you have always been different. Edmund

I have done probably 20 stocks for Marlin Mod 60's, I am a proficient woodworker but I can say, I haven't been able to talk myself into trying the checkering, I'm afraid ill mess up and be at ground zero, you did a great job. As for the Mossberg trigger, the modern Mossberg 500 is so different than one made 30+ years ago, even in weight, I don't really know about how durable the new ones are, the old ones are almost indestructible, they were built very well, they have only made about 20 billion of them, it's an unreal amount. Great job on the stock, everything looked great

I really give you credit for the diligence and perseverance you showed. I like the attitude that "well, the worst that could happen is I screw up and have to start over." I agree - that's the way I approach fixing things - "it doesn't work now, so how can it get worse?" There's a thing said about guys - that the way guys make friends is to do something together; work together, workout, fix something, etc. I don't think it's about guys - I think it's about people. Watching along with you building, I got the same feeling - a kindred spirit. That's what made this little video trip so special. Congratulations on your completion of a beautiful piece of work, and good luck with your KZbin venture.

It takes a lot of courage to tackle your first stock, and the learning curve remains exponential for every stock. I’ve recently finished a custom stock for my son. 436 hours of labour plus many months of drying time for the oil. Most of that was in the fine 24lpi full wraparound grip and for-end checkering. So 2 months is pretty quick going! Your checkering pattern was very aesthetically pleasing, and tackling a fleur de lis on your first stock was super brave. Checkering becomes an obsessive passion and i bet you’ve probably already ordered some more tools for finer work 😂 I hope you are proud of your results!

The reason I picked the mossberg is because the inletting seemed easier. Thanks for the compliments!

Absolutely beautiful work. What's great is that you can tell that for some of the stuff you were doing it the "non-established" way and figuring it out but still achieving wonderful results in the end.

I, too, like to DIY and make things. Always wanted to do a stock for my ol’ lever gun. I’ve watched a bunch of videos. This is the best I’ve seen. Mostly because you weren’t telling us how to do it, only showing us how YOU did it. Thankyou.

Very impressive craftsmanship. I am starting a late 1800's family farm gun. I have already fixed the metal, and now on to the wood. Thank you for your video.

I myself am a aspiring woodworker that makes reproduction furniture for my home. I also hunt and shoot shoot clays as a hobby, and are considering building my own stocks. Your beautiful work and detailed video was just what I needed. I was definitely on the fence on how to proceed on the fore end portion of it. Your method changed my view completely on how to go about it. Thanks so much for making and sharing this video. I'm sure other woodworkers feel the same. Your an outstanding artist. Please continue your passion, we all love it. Danny Everett
