Carving A Maple Leaf

This is an instructional video on relief carving a maple leaf using traditional woodcarving chisels.

Excellent, basic tutorial on carving. This would be a good beginner project. It is just me, but the sound of the chisel slicing through the wood is a very pleasing, satisfying sound. Almost relaxing. I can sit for hours at a time doing this. I lose all track of time as I get into the 'zone'. I am, currently teaching myself to relief carve, and videos such as this one, are so helpful. Big thank you to all the artists that take the time to share their knowledge.

Is that hard maple that you are carving?

The type of wood is Butternut. It is in the Walnut family but a little softer and lighter in color.

were find carbon paper ? hobby lobby? i always have take pencils scribble on paper make my own. not good find some paper. used get some every time got bill

great job think make great lide for box. if new hand cut dove tales for box. people that vedio keep see lid pop up. it lead back this vedio vice verse. maybe do cut bord for food. instead have desine pop out have desine go down so knife isn't cut art up every time cut carrots.
