Thank you for the great explanations and video. The brush analogy was very helpful. Beautiful carvings too.

Basic woodcarving techniques brilliantly explained. I just finished a woodcarving course and I can assure you that this video explains in very great detail and also very eloquently the basic techniques and underlying principles of woodcarving before you even start your first piece.

Great video, I learned so much. The brush example really explained the wood grain theory much better. I also like the picture you have of our Lady of Guadalupe, I've got a couple different portraits in my home and shop. God bless and thanks for making these videos for beginners like me.

Thank you. Great video. Would be good to see how you hold a small 3D carving on your bench.
@joedillett5 жыл бұрын
For small 3D carvings, I normally leave extra stock on the base or attach extra stock so it can be fastened into the vise.

You ever try using a rawhide type mallet?

Thank you so much for an excellent informative vide0. Very helpful. May I please ask a question? What 6 tools would you suggest a beginner carver buys? Also, what is a good reasonable brand? Prices vary from £3 to £800, and that is so confusing for someone who has never held a wood carving chisel. Thank you so much

Since the grain goes up-and-down how do you know which side is the smooth side which side is the rough side.

what kind of clamp should i use to keep the wood in place?
@joedillett8 жыл бұрын
There are many different ways to clamp your work. I am using my bench vice in this video. Using C-clamps is also very common. I also have a video on using a peg-board.

Sorry I missed your call. I travel a lot, teaching our American wounded veterans the art of woodcarving, so I am out of the shop much of the time.
