Congrats on your patience and love for a skill that demands so much from its creator while receiving only a moments notice from so many of those that are lucky enough to behold it. Thank you for sharing and trying to teach. Perpetuating such an art is rare these days.

I have always been in awe of people who practice subtractive sculpture. Once you’ve chipped it off, that’s it, there’s no going back. As a sculptor who works with welded steel (an additive process) If I weld a piece of steel on and don’t like the result, I just have to give it a good whack with a very large hammer and it’s gone. Plus, hauling off with a huge hammer and making very noisy and destructive modifications to a welding job is hugely therapeutic. It’s fun, legal, and doesn’t get you into trouble. And, it amuses my grandchildren whose friends don’t have an 80 year old granny who does this sort of thing.

@@Seshnaga all they did was follow the same general process. Hammer and chisel, then rasp, then polish with pumice. Its not rocket science and fairly well documented. Evidence of how they did this kind of thing (and the tools used) can be traced back well into the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, which existed before the Bronze Age. Electric tools just reduce the amount of hammering you need to do. They just used copper instead of the modern Iron, steel, carbide, or tungsten.
