Thank you for sharing this. I have recently purchased a couple of small (and inexpensive) carving sets and have been browsing for some instructions. I just signed up for your free membership portion of your school.

Gorgeous work, Thank you for sharing. I might eventually have to check out your site but it's not 100% what I'm looking to learn right now, though I probably will need that doughnut lesson. Also good to know about sanding after carving!

If i may be so bold, it is a pleasure watching you work. Question, when you see a block of wood, does your mind start thinking of a pattern for it because of the grain? Recommendation please, palm chisels or straight chisels?
@marymay155Ай бұрын
Sometimes I do. But I usually don't have the option. When I'm doing my own sculptural design where the design evolves as I carve, then that is definitely something considered. Often, though, I have a set pattern and simply have to make the design work with whatever wood I have available.

How do you get rid of pencil marks without sankding?
@thomasarussellsr7 жыл бұрын
Do the lessons come with printable templates? Do you have a book of templates? I think you are just as cute as a puppy or kitten. But your talent with those gouges and chisels are why I keep coming back. I will be looking into your lessons when I am done with college and back in the workforce. I can't do school and work with my disabilities, and with 100-120 hours per week going into my studies, I don't have time to get into my shop. It is so sad, but a fact of post stroke life for me. Thank you for posting a longer lesson from time to time and not just all intros. Don't really get much with intros, those are basically just commercials for the "school". Keep on sharing your carving, hopefully I can get some of those lessons sooner or later. I would still love a book of patterns though.

Was looking to learn more but seems your channel here has not been too active lately, and the same with your site. Am I wrong, is the school still moving along as well as the channel here?

Bonjour, quel essence de bois utilise tu en général ? merci
@Gwynbuck5 жыл бұрын
Why don't you work in lime? It is easy to work, close-grained, and has a wonderful grain pattern. It also takes intricate detail well. It was the favoured wood of the master; Grindling Gibbons.

How would you go about getting rid of the carbon sketch lines on the peaks if you weren’t going to paint the piece?
@marymay1557 жыл бұрын
If you use carbon paper to transfer your design, lacquer thinner can remove a lot of it. Very light sanding can be used to remove any remaining amount (just be careful not to sand the sharp corner down). If you use graphite or transfer paper, much of it can be erased with a pencil eraser. Ideally, this line would be removed with the carving gouges, but that is much more challenging to get a very controlled cut and leave a nice, sharp high edge.

You are a very talented carver, but that recurring payment stuff is sneaky in my opinion. Congrats on the book though!
@marymay1557 жыл бұрын
Thank you. If you look on my website, there is nothing sneaky about it. I make it very clear what is offered. If you don't want to join as a monthly member, you can join as a non-recurring yearly member and save some money. In no way have I tried to deceive anybody. It's simply the process of how these membership sites work.
