I have a smallmouth bass carving on film that I need to edit soon, so hopefully I can hammer that out for some more inspiration! It's a 5.5lb smallmouth trophy replica I carved that turn out beautifully.

Very cool! I have made a few swimsuits myself, and they're a ton fun to make and to fish with. I have a few rainbow trout glide baits that I carved then made molds of in silicone to reproduce. They're 9" long and glide beautifully. Good luck on the carvings! Oh, and if you haven't already, check out Marlin Bait Co. KZbin channel, and go through his video list. The guy makes some awesome lures and has some great information. Also, a small bandsaw like the Grizzly Industrial G0803 Baby Bandsaw is a great starter for lure making--and it's super affordable.

Random off-topic question.. What music is this? haha ALSO, Great videos. Being a hunter/fisherman, I absolutely love your work. :) I have all kinds of woodworking except for band saw, This makes me want to get one :)
@RiverbendWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Wes, I really appreciate the feedback! The music for this is actually one of the newer songs from the KZbin free music library. They really stepped up the selection and quality this time around. I have to say the bandsaw is a very useful item in my shop, and I use it for everything from tiny fin cutouts to resawing book match panels. You can get into one pretty cheap if you go the Ryobi route, but I really recommend buying as much saw as you can outright to avoid having to pay more upgrading later. Also, check out Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for really, really good deals on used saws--totally worth it!

Is that a flat sanding disc or a cutoff wheel on the grinder?
@RiverbendWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
Hello Jon, what I am using in the video is a "flat" sanding disc. I say flat, but they are fairly pliable, and flex when applying pressure to the workpiece. Here's a link to the type I am using in the video: www.lowes.com/pd/Gator-Fiber-Discs-3-Pack-Aluminum-Oxide-4-5-in-50-Grit-Fiber-Disc/1000339735 I recommend the 50-grit, as the 36-grit will really eat up material and leave a lot more sanding to do prior to priming the fish. Thanks for the question!

Realmente puedes! Solo se necesita algo de práctica. ¡Comencé con herramientas manuales como cinceles y sierras manuales y empecé desde allí! ¡Pruébalo y diviértete!

Do you use a band saw or scroll saw or both ?
@RiverbendWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
For this fish I went with the bandsaw. For fish smaller than 12" or so, or when there's complex, tight curves on intricate fins, then I will go with the scroll saw. I would say it's the bandsaw 90% of the time.

Cual forma es para aser los ojos que no sean de vidrio y los dientes?
@RiverbendWoodworks4 жыл бұрын
Siempre puede hacer los dientes con solo una varilla de madera y lijarla, luego pintar y terminar de esa manera. Es una opción común también.

Have you ever polished you fingers with that sanding disk. Be careful good job.
@RiverbendWoodworks5 жыл бұрын
Hey Steve, Yes, I have brushed the grinder disk over my fingers a time or two. Each time ends up more like a mild rug burn than anything else. I think I am fortunate, as it looks pretty narly when the thing is whipping around at 20,000RPMS! The key is to practice a lot, and mainly the idea is to let the grit do the work--light passes are the key, so if it does go a hair too far the impact is minor.

Thanks. Gonna have to agree with you there--certainly more of a power-carver these days. I use to do everything with hand tools, but fell in love with the power tool route. Thanks for watching!
@georgecharney9942 жыл бұрын
Hi Jom…. Maybe so…..but the wooden fish living in that block doesn’t care how you bring him out. I’ve done it both ways and power lets you spend the time detailing instead of making lots of slow, unrewarding chips. If you have a limited time to carve each week, power is a great choice and I see no shame in it.
