Thank you Mr Brailsford. The balls could have been a bit bigger and a bit rounder, but it was a first for me, room for improvement certainly ☺️👍☺️

I absolutely love the bowl. That is the most incredible wood I’ve seen. I’d polish a length up and hang it on a wall it looks just like a country scene in the middle of summer over here lol. Fantastic job again there is no end to your talent Lenore’s gold sets it off too. Great job Lenore. Cheers 🇦🇺

Hi Richard. I consider you more like an artist than a woodworker! Absolutely stunning. Let me not go into the balls things here, but just admire your work! :-) On second thought, you might have heard this story about a man being examined by his GP and got this news that he had actually three balls. Being extremely proud of it, on his way back to home he was sitting next to another man on the train and couldn’t help himself starting a conversation on his unique feature. He spoke quietly to the man next to him saying: “You know, together we have 5 balls!” . The man looked pitiful at him and said: “I’m sorry to hear you have only one, sir!”. Keep on turning, Richard, talk soon!__ Frank
@WoodWithD Жыл бұрын
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Frank! I had to read that twice! That was me that was on the bus with the three balls and couldn’t add up! I mean, I don’t know if you heard in the video, but I can’t remember the name of my drill stand or pillar drill or whatever you wanna call it 🤣🤣🤣

Oh my, that wood is wonderful; I think I wrote something similar about the previous one, but I don't think I would have had the b...s, (I meant vision), to glue them all together to hide most of it, but, somehow, it results in bringing out the best of it! I love the bowl, the pointy bit underneath ... but may I be as bold as to suggest that your machismo may have influenced the size of the balls? I think maybe 'less is more' in this case? I hadn't thought of the idea of gluing on pieces to make the original tenon wider - great tip. Thought provoking ... you always 'push the boundaries' ... challenge yourself and us ... Great entertainment!!

I loved this video so much thanks for recommending it @WoodWithD! Haha yep Lenore has a great personality I definitely see why you would feature her, hope there is more to come of the two of you. Great interaction of personalities! I can see why you'd bring this one to my attention lol I am really very interested in gilding some of my pieces I've done a little of my own process but probably wildly off from what proper methods/procedures would be. Any chance you could recommend a video where you or Lenore go a little more into depth of the process. From the gallery there was talk (I can't recall the wording) of gilding the larger open surfaces of the wood then bringing down the proud taller parts so a combination of wood and gilding was visible (loved that idea and would really like to learn more of all of the types of gilding you have been doing!). Thanks again for sharing such great work. I really love your personality, such great energy, being professional and skilled while also balancing in moments where you aren't taking yourself too seriously and letting your guard down to be silly! We'd have been good friends and gotten along well haha Looking forward to more video catching up. More than happy to prioritize any suggestions or i'll pick and choose as I go. Cheers!!

The only other one that stands out as one you might enjoy from your comments to date is one of my personal favourites: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2nXnJyuZamqZrcsi=zY0kX_dCLZh3etsS Re the gilding process, alas she’s been asked before, but she won’t put her years of expertise and training into a video. Oddly it’s one of the few things there’s isn’t that many good videos on KZbin of, I guess for the same reason.
@perrys595420 күн бұрын
@@WoodWithD Thanks for the recommend, I'll put that on my next to watch list when I get a chance! Yah I guess her reaction is fair enough. I often wonder how some of these experts on YT feel putting out all of their tricks of the trade for the world to see. It's great to share the knowledge and let others grow but understandably frustrating to have gone through so much time money and effort to get good at something only for the next person to watch a video and gain all of that growth effortlessly. I see both sides so no judgment here. For someone who does want to learn the craft and willing to commit the time and effort where does a person go to get the 'training' you mentioned? Whats the starting point in that process? Or is it all completely personal trial and error, experiment on technique over and over?
@WoodWithD19 күн бұрын
@ hmmmmm, I really don’t know where to start looking for a course in it, maybe trial and error is the best way, after some initial instruction (though sounds like you’ve had experience already). Have a look in gold leaf suppliers websites for instruction. Here in the UK there is Gold Leaf Supplies. There’s a lot of info on there I think. Lenore did a 4 year degree in oil painting and frame repair and restoration and then taught gilding in weekly lessons to a group of students for a few years (different people on different courses)

@ wow she is quite accomplished!! Sounds like an awesome gal! The talent between the two of you is quite impressive. Use your superpowers for good and not evil ok?? Haha :) Yah I’ve found a bit of gilding resources and feel somewhat confident in it but hearing her hesitancy to share her techniques leaves me thinking there must be some major key techniques I am unaware of yet. Will come with time, practice and patience :)

What a shame you couldn’t core that blank once or twice!! Such an incredible wood. Hate to waste it! Also you could have done probably 6 bowls from boards (economy bowl, whatever you prefer to call them). That being said, what you came up with is brilliant! Thanks for sharing!!

Hi Scott, I hear you and agree, I’ve been considering a coring system for a LONG time now. There’s been several pieces I’ve had the pleasure of turning that could have been cores and made a lovely set and not waste wood. One day ☺️👍
