Carving Duck Decoys For The Beginner

Had the pleasure of meeting Mr Sprankle at the Ding Darling museum today. I asked the docents if the bird carvings hanging from the ceiling were for sale of which there were ~50. They told that they were not, but here’s the man who made all of them. His creations are amazing! He was a very nice and humble person.

I appreciate all of you that have watched and even purchased my brother Ed's Carving for Beginners video. My brother Ed Pierce passed away in September of 2012. I am sorry to say his video is no longer available.

+formerfuzz Are any of Ed's family thinking of re-publishing Ed's video? There is a lot of interest. He was an awesome artist and excellent teacher. It's sad if they aren't available for future generations. His short video on KZbin has my husband interested. If it is every available please contact [e-mail] - I would definitely order it. Thanks.

I just discovered this video So sorry to hear of the loss. I have been around duck decoy carving many years. This is the best instruction video I have ever seen. So sorry he and his instruction style are a true loss to this hobby. Adrian Louviere

I, too, extend my deepest sympathy to the Ed Pierce family. He was a true artist. I've been searching for his DVD video and sadly ran across his brother's post (formerfuzz). If the video ever is available again I would be interested. Very disappointed to see the video of his art pass with him. Great talent.

His family has my deepest sympathy, he was an absolutely great artist. BTW what happened with all his tools and materials after he passed away, does anyone continued his great work? Why not re-selling this wonderful DVD again? I would greatly suggest a little biography of this artist in this page. Thanks for sharing this video!

This is a very good how-to video, Ed! I have never done a decrative carving, I have just made hunting decoys! Do you enter contests? Like the Ward World Show?

great video and really nice tutorial and presentation! I would like to ask what kind of paint do you use? and do you aply anything else as a "barrier" before applying the paint, because normally the wood tends to absob paint, unless it's oil paint. thank you!
