Rock climbing in the Organ Mountains isn't uncommon, but the rock climbing traverse Steve and Robin are planning certainly is. In fact, research and planning took 10 years for the first person who attempted it. Rock climbing planning involves books and phone calls, and lots of scrambling in remote places with no trail markers.
If you can believe it, this week we'll also be seeing the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, mountain climbing in Red Rock Canyon, elk and grouse hunting in Carson National Forest.

Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat-sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.

another masterpiece video. the camera angles, the wildflowers, sky, mountains and that music present such a calming place. not only do we get to see something that we would never otherwise experience, but we feel better about life, the world and ourselves after seeing it. thank you for your format, it makes life better.

Thanks for taking us to the mountains and showing a bit of climbing with unspoilt nature . I thought you had upset a scorpion until the slowed down film revealed the millipede ; wow that beastie could move ! That reminded me of being up on the Rhinog hills , these are on the west coast of midish Wales running north and south , looking west at the east coast of Ireland . My friend thought he saw movement in a hardy tree bush ; it took us some minutes until we could see a newt sat very still in the stunted branches . This was the only time I ever saw a newt and we were up a mountain ..... you will have guessed that the weather up there was wet , wet , wet , most unlike the Organs ! One time we were sat having a coffee and sandwich break on a walk near , but raised up from , a small river north of Swindon . Tony nodded to me and I turned slight to see what he meant .... an otter was cleaning itself at the waters edge , a magical moment . Keep on filming , you do a great job . Cheers

The way you guys have taken us from a boat building project to an adventure channel, and bought Robin into the story has been flawless. It's almost hard to believe that it was only a few months ago that we were watching the preperations for launching Arabella and now were on a month long climbing adventure, just brilliant. Good luck with the traverse, please keep the content coming, I'm looking forward to following along for many more adventures.

I am not a mountaineer, but I am/ was an avid sailor. I found there were many sailors who loved spending their times off in the mountains. I can see the connections as the mountains are really frozen waves. One has to be present in both sailing and mountaineering, and one gets a lot of satisfaction of doing something spectacular, even if there is no one there to share the moment. However, with someone who does share the experience, it adds a lot to the sense of achievement. Well done to both of you. Keep the videos coming when possible.

Another tip about ocotillo - it's also sometimes called "coachwhip", as in the combination pole+whip used by drivers of teams of multiple rows of horses. But translated literally means "little torch", as when it's fire-red flowers bloom at the ends of the stems in the spring, it's quite striking. Common word here around Phoenix - there's a whole neighborhood (and a major road) called "Ocotillo."

Having done a number of mountain traverses, I appreciate you showing what it takes to get ready for one. The amount of thought and effort that goes into this sort of thing often is overlooked. Been a long time follower watching their boat build, and it was fascinating. However that journey is over. The first 20 seconds of narrations captures what need to change. The narrator states that building the boat was to make possible trips like this one to New Mexico. That is a land locked state. Steve built the wing vehicle. Steve does a lot that is amazing, but picking and climbing seem to be at the top of the list. The boat build was a journey and an amazing one. Now sell the boat, but a land based vehicle, and go explore the worlds like the one here on the screen. Up in the mountains where Steve alway's looks happiest. Sending this with love.

New Mexico has challenges enough to keep you busy longer than your body can take it in terms of years and decades.. I was at the first balloon fest and have been to many over the years. At one time I lived within 10 blocks of that field when they took off. Lots of balloon sounds to keep you awake. When you think you have conquered it all, turn around and there is another challenge as hard or harder.

A desert horticulturist told me something interesting about the ocotillo... The photosynthesis necessary for survival all happens in the surface of the branches, and it only puts out leaves when has had more than enough water. Hard to imaging anything in that area having more than enough water!

Patrick O'Brien's Jack Aubrey series is awesome... (Book "HMS Surprise" on dash @ 4:14) Every sailor should read/listen to this series..... The movie Master and Commander Far Side Of The World was comprised of three of these novels.

The one thing that still sticks in my head was a few videos back when Steve, Robin and a couple people were sailing and Robin didn't care for what they were doing and she said something that really shocked me coming from someone's partner in this adventure. She said that if that's what Steve planned on doing that would be a deal breaker. I guess what I got out of that was if she didn't like something or didn't want to do something Steve wanted to do she was out of the deal that I took as thier relationship. Right there I got the feeling Steve will do anything Robin wants but she's not willing to do the same. Personally I would of took what was said as a veiled threat about what any future plans with Arabella would be. I hope I'm wrong but why would you ever say it would be a deal breaker, that's pretty heavy things to say on camera about your relationship and if that's what was implied it should of been a conversation between her and Steve in private. I hope sailing across the Atlantic isn't going to be a deal breaker.

I think there is, indeed, a misunderstanding here.

@AcornToArabella go back and review the videos in the last few months and you will hear Robin say that would be a deal breaker, maybe it was a poor choice of words but it really shocked me at the time.

@AcornToArabella it was on the video when you were discussing the climb in New Mexico and you felt you didn't have enough knowledge or experience to do this traverse of the climb in New Mexico. When I heard you say it could be a deal breaker I felt it meant your relationship and it really shocked me. I apologize if I've hurt your feeling and that wasn't what was intended. But after being married for almost 50 years and never hearing my wife ever say something like that when I had some pretty crazy things happen in our lives I just starting wondering if sailing across the Atlantic which is very scary ,difficult and stressful much more so then what you were planning to do in New Mexico is going to be a deal breaker. I truly hope not. But once again I apologize if I misunderstood what you meant when you said a deal breaker. But it's been on my mind and bothering me so I just wanted to put it to rest. I do wish you and Steve all the best the world has to offer and I hope you can have the same wonderful life togeather my wife and I have had. God bless stay safe and live life to its fullest.
