That’s very cool. I wouldn’t have the patience. I always grab the plaster out for mountains and rocks, but I’ve definitely done cobblestone work in styrofoam. I actually use a small artist spatula and a wire brush for detailing

I do all my rock/cliffs with foam and knife only and come out looking great. Takes more time than using molds but I find the payoff reward is much better. Also using a ball pointed pen for detailing cobble stone or other stonework into rock faces works VERY well.

Invest in a filter mask with replacement filters . There a little costly but they have a multitude of areas of use .

That was likely the propellant, or solvent in the glue itself.

Sanding XPS foam is really bad news for your lungs.

Do so in a well ventilated area. I sand down foam all the time for years now and no issues. Same with spray painting.
