I despise a crooked steering wheel as well. Gotten cars back from the tire shop for an alignment with the steering wheel as crooked as when it went in. One guy started to argue with me that it didn't make any difference if the steering wheel was straight, and it was $50.00 extra to correct it. I didn't ask him how much extra it would be; I already knew that, I asked for him to fix the issue, not for a price quote. My brother passed last year and left me a 2003 GT with V8. Sadly, I am too disabled to drive it, can't get in and out of it. Sold it to his boss, so I know it got a good home.

I have an even worse problem with my ancient 1969 Buick Wildcat convertible... The steering behaved nicely, and return to center after you went around a corner. I took it in for tires, and an alignment as long as it was there. I drove it out the door, made a right turn and it wouldn't return to center at all. NOBODY has ever been able to fix it completely ever since!

@marko78438 ай бұрын
@@tomjames7955 thank you Tom, you're exactly right. When I had the center link replaced last year, I asked for some more negative caster. Then, in the kind of insane coincidence that seems to happen to me, on the drive home it got stiffer turning the wheel either way. Over the winter I had to replace both bearings in the upper bucket of the tilt column. The upper cage had just then broken, and it turned out that the lower bearing cage had been busted so long there were only two or three balls left in it... I just hope they're all not jamming something down below now!

Those look like Ford Performance sway bars that are made for Ford by Eibach and are painted blue instead of red. There should be a Ford logo on them. You just need to replace the polyurethane bushings. The ones used in those bars are made by Energy Suspension. You can buy the bushing kit and silicone grease. The person who had the car probably did not use silicone grease on them which would have degraded the polyurethane bushings. Have you tried filling them with grease? They seem to be bone dry now. These bushings will get noisy if they are not greased through the fittings.

@evoman448 ай бұрын
The first car I bought with my own money had a new set of tires. Problem was that it was the cheapest tires available for 13" wheels that the previous owner had bought just so that it could pass the state inspection. However those tires were so cheap that they could not hold a corner a decent speed well. Which led to me having two close calls when the tires gave out on two turns. The last incident was the last straw that led me to replacing all the tires with the best set I could find in a 13" size. Found a good set from Costco at the time that served me and my spirited driving well for the time I had the car.

You might want to consider a new alternator, the factory spec wasn't really rated for 5.4 SC and I had to replace them several times in a year until I got an upgraded model. Car would give little warning before the battery died from failed alternator.
@marko78438 ай бұрын
In my case, there was a ground cable that seemed to be tight to the engine block because of corrosion, but it wasn't really. I bought two or three alternators before I found the problem. After that, no new alternators...
@midnight3478 ай бұрын
Nations is where it's at they have a killer 270 Amp alt for these that changes the actual style of alternator from the factory 6g (crap) to the large case Denso style like 2010 up mustangs got factory. The problem is the style alternator itself. Getting a factory 6g style high output is not the answer. You gotta also change the style of alternator and nations makes one that is a bolt on 270 Amp unit and its great. I went ahead and did the alternator on my 07 before the factory one even failed because I learned from others. People who buy stock replacements go through them like crazy even if you get a stock style 6g ho alternator same thing the 6g style is the issue with them. Get rid of that for the nation's and no more problems. That also covers you if you turn higher than 6200 rpm which wears out regular alternators that came keep up in that range. 6500 is max safe rpm anyways on these with a stock bottom end they have a long stroke and don't like revs much but if you abide by that and give it as much octane as you can these things are stout and live at big power levels even being beat on long as you maintain it properly.

Honestly, most used cars with over 200k on the odometer have had so many repairs already, its not like you're repairing everything on it. Probably been through a trans or 2, probably had all manner of alternator, water pump, timing chain/belt, and whatever other replacements. You just gotta hope that whoever did the work was good, and that they used quality parts. And any really bad weak points have already failed by that point, and been addressed with hopefully revised and updated parts. I've taken many vehicles past 500k. Once it gets to a certain point, whatever is going to break will have already broken. Mileage is just a number. Except for when it comes to rust. Thank god I don't live in the rust belt. I've seen beautiful cars that look exceptional on top, only to be falling to absolute pieces underneath. Spray foam and scrap metal welding can only take you so far.

But the Ford Stealership can not get the steering wheel dead on. It has been back 2 other times because the steering wheel being off just a slight bit drives me nuts. I guess the next thing is to calibrate the steering angle sensor using my Autel. I do not know what else to do.

I would really recommend replacing the two piece driveshaft, though - they are nasty when they come apart under high rpms. I have no idea why Shelby would put that type in that year, but it's a definite problem if it lets loose.

Wizard, you gotta get some long tube headers and a off road x pipe on that thing so it can breathe, ms wizard needs this.

The Shelby's originally came out with dual clutch setup but people were saying they were to stiff for street use and would cause them to burn up,i could see why it was replaced and someone put a single clutch system in. Also,the driveshaft is garbage factory, the two shafts with the bearing in the center had a tendency to fail,i swapped mine out with a one piece aluminum drivershaft.The last thing,the suspension on those car's are not the best,i got a 2011 performance pack and i still had to swap out everything in the rear with all tubular which is 10 time's better on handing.Those motor where basically a ford gt motor from the supercar,just one mid engine and the other not.

This GT500 suspension wise is in a similar situation that my 2006 GT was in when I got it at 131k, the wheel hop in the rear was terrible, it felt like the whole rear axle was going to come out from under the car with even a hint of wheelspin, but engine and drivetrain were solid, ended up replacing every single bushing except the sway bar bushings because they were still good and the difference was night and day, so much more predictable over bumps and no more clunks

Glad to know I'm not the only one who is picky about the spokes in the steering wheel being straight when going down a straight road. Took my car right back to the alignment shop when I was going down the road and the wheel was not straight it just bugs me call me ocd.

SPEC sells clutch kits rated from 1-5. Rating 3 and up are meant to be stiff but they really hook.

Waiting impatiently for a video about the Fiat 600 in the background. You've covered almost all of the cars of my childhood now; Citroën DS, Lada, ... This is just missing the Simca 1100 and Citroën GS and a Saab 900.

The Tremec shifters are excellent from the factory. I have a 2004 Mach 1 with the 5-speen Tremec TR3650, 129K miles. Still shifts like new; even still running the original clutch.

The only time I ever saw a clutch looking like that was a lady driver who drove everywhere riding the clutch (resting her foot on the clutch peddle). That had rainbows on everything and burnt material in piles, the rivets were gone.

With 200k on the clock, I would have opted for a full suspension kit from Ford Performance. Solid clutch upgrade choice with the RST.

This is what you tend to find on a performance car that has driven by drivers that should never be allowed behind the wheel of one. Once it is finished it will be clunk free, and you won't have sore legs with the clutch.

I love it! My friend actually has a Harley f150 with nearly 350k original miles and the thing is still powerful lol

Spec clutches are always like that in my experience. Really stiff, and they engage at the top. I put one in my mildly built 01 Camaro SS back when that car was new. I took it back out a week later and went with a GM Performance LS7 clutch instead and never looked back. That Spec clutch was awful!

That old clutch looks like a stage 3 carbon metallic clutch. It’s pretty much only good for drag racing and is like an on or off switch. The previous owner was probably driving it like a street clutch and slipping too much in traffic hence the material and flywheel wear.

Thanks,great Work refurbishment, replacement etc (* esp @210,000 miles in a MUSTANG , MAYBE a hit Rod, erc!)… Anyways, the Tires are VERY IMPORTANT…I LEARNED that in 1967-8 particularly! To wit a low mileage 1966 GALAXIE 500 XL/4;Speed/352/4 BBL / Burgandy/No Disc /DELUXE BLACK INTERIOR; (** sort of like Jay LENO’s 7 LITRE 1966; … adding proper Metallic Brakes, new Tires/ Monroe Shocks ( &/Coolant* Recovery KIT** , as not on Engine yet,from Ford Performance, as not in AUTO PARTS availability’s in 1967), plus other work; a new Car.

Yeah, I prefer to get complete assemblies for trailing arms, control arms etc, also. I just figure the tooling and giant press at the Moog factory is a lot better than anything I do in the garage.
