My Dad taught me about working on cars back in the 50s, and one thing he always said was "don't 'shotgun' your repairs, fix 'em right the first time, and you'll be happy for a lot longer." Glad to see you're a devotee' of this advice, as well! God bless all!

Your dad was right. Nothing like the feeling 20'000 miles after you fixed something, knowing that you did it right and you will probably not have to go back there for another 80,000.

And I know that a quality LS Swap would improve the Rolls, which was built with a Hydromatic Automatic Trans, so the only things that would be lost are: Oil Leaks, High Maintenance Cost$, and being able to put a quarter on the engine at idle without seeing it dance...

Totally agree David, Rolls Royce didn't make the car to be a driveway ornament, they made it to be the most comfortable way to get from A to B. The fact it's churned out 150k miles and is still in unmarked condition is a testament to the care and respect shown by the owner. I'd gladly buy that person a pint and shake thier hand, this is exactly how a car of this status should be kept and enjoyed. Also, my bet is on you buying that Countach Anniversary off Tyler and him keeping the Diablo VT.

On R-12 to R-134 cars that have not yet had a compressor replaced you often need to replace any rubber hoses as well. Often these cars have bled down over time through the rubber itself and been though several recharges leading to a failure of the descant bag in the dryer.

ALL RIGHT!!! The last question is being asked once again! I have been BLESSED by getting my parts in a timely fashion. Only time I had an issue was over 40 years ago. Had a motorcycle that was a bit different, a 1976 Suzuki RE5. It was kind of unique and ran really well. BUT! It had a problem with it's "silicone rectifier", which controlled the charging of the battery [like a voltage regulator]. I had a few LONG conversations with the mechs at Justice Suzuki and they told me that rectifier was bad from the start. Not badly designed, just not a strong enough unit for this size bike. It needed one off a 1000 or bigger. They had none in stock of either size [the bigger unit required some rewiring!].This was middle of May; I wanted to ride my new [to me!!] bike this summer! So we ordered a new one, then I figured I better get two-just in case. [Mr. Murphy!] I even paid for rush-air service from I believe Osaka Japan, supposed to be 10-12 days max. I received my parts in time for my birthday............February 12th of the following year!!!! So, 9 months with Rush-Air shipping [I think it cost about $160ish; parts were $102.48!] and the first one DID NOT WORK. Second one did the trick. Before I took her out for a romp, I found out why they were blowing out, too much heat build-up!! I made a little air diverter to cool it better, lasted the couple years I had her before passing her on. They only built this bike for 2 years, 1975 and 1976. It was kind of unique in that it had a Wankle rotary engine!! BIG engine for a motorcycle, heavy too. Like riding with a dorm fridge between your legs. Smooth runner, and you could rev her to the Moon! No valves to float!! But again, thanks for the Final Question coming back. Always enjoyed it!!!!

One cool thing to do with Desiccant is to pour it into a bowl and add some water. It will snap crackle and pop as it absorbs all the water. It also expands to much larger than original size. Which is the reason why you don't eat it. It can and will expand in your throat and choke you.

You can find a lot of Lincoln Town Cars with high mileage that still look brand new. I have three and you just do regular maintenance and repair EVERYTHING right away. Since not much goes wrong to begin with it is easy. Every couple of years replace the armrest cover in the front and have it detailed about every six months and you're done. They quit making them in 2011 and tons of them in Fleet Service still in 2021. I drive my 2004 Ultimate from Orlando to Montreal about once a year (pre-pandemic) and other trips around the Eastern US and have never had any issues.

What a magnificent motor car. Obviously owned by someone who cares about it. I do have to question the Khumho tires, though. They should be a Michelin on this model. Either the Michelin or Avon Turbosteel is a much better tire, and built for the weight of this beauty.

We had this problem with a brand new compressor on a Hilux Ute with a freezer box on back, The driver experienced a chilling [no pun intended] experience when on the Freeway the compressor locked up, every light on the dash came on as the engine and transmission temporarily [for one second] froze until the belt snapped [they are STRONG]

LOL LS swap is so yesterday! I love it! I agree, machines need to be used, cars need to be driven! We just took a 2000 Mercedes E320 cross country for 5K miles round trip. We started with 120K miles on the clock. We did have a coil pack go bad at the very start, replaced it and nothing but smooth driving, comfort and 25+mpg for the rest of the trip.

Poor airflow through the condenser will cause the compressor to pump out the oil and lockup. The other cause for lockup can be a bad thermostat. Air conditioning thermostat can fail in closed circuit. that will cause liquid to get into the compressor that is meant to pump gas. To prevent from happening again check that the thermostat shuts off the compressor at 4ºC to 7ºC. How is the heat exchanger doing?

35 years ago I learned how to change clutch bearings on A/C compressors. On old GM cars where the A-6 compressor is up top and easy to get at, I would prefer to change the bearing rather than install a new compressor since it can stay on the engine with the charge intact. Those days are gone however since most compressors are buried and you would have to discharge the system to get at them anyway.
