I had a 2001 Dakota that I LOVED, I did all kinds of work to it, new transmission, new battery, had plans to replace all the speakers and audio equipment, new intake manifold gaskets, new headlights, etc. it caught fire while I was trying to replace exhaust manifold gaskets and insurance didn't want it on the road anymore. It was a V6 manual and even though it was slow it was probably the best vehicle I've owned so far

That's a Mopar M1 2BBL intake with a factory throttle body and fuel rails, so there's not really anything THAT racy on there externally. It appears to be factory cast iron heads, too, but I can't get a great look at that to confirm. The Spintech headers are using port plates so it's definitely the factory port layout. That said, buy a factory 5.9L for $200 for the junkyard and throw the M1 on it and this truck would be back in business and not really any appreciable amount slower than it is now.

@@mickeyfox5 I've had a 2BBL M1, 4BBL M1 (with adapter and 55mm F&B TB) and a kegger on my trucks. A kegger with the belly pan plate fixed is fine for stock 5.9Ls as the cams are tiny and there's no compression. I was getting north of 20MPG (on 93, though) in my '98 CC with a Mopar R/T+10 cam, 1.7 rockers, and the 4BBL M1/F&B combo on a FlyinRyan tune before that engine got pulled to go into another R/T. The bottom end loss on the 4BBL is greatly exaggerated, especially with any sort of cam upgrade.

Considering the engine is a magnum engine, one option if the engine has to be torn down again is a 408 stroker. I do recall reading comments in the forums on these kits that it unlocks a lot of power with these engines. It is just a stroker kit, but you can also machine the cylinders for more displacement. It depends on how much money the customer wants to put into this truck. Now it is getting harder and harder to find one that isn't all rusted or beat up as these trucks are now 20-plus years old.

ALWAYS See a car before buying it !!! I THOUGHT I bought a deal of the century for $7,500 "Buy it Now" for my 50th, SITE UNSEEN! I was safe cause of the Ebay Money back Guarantee My wife said "You want it, you deserve it for your birthday!" so I did it! 1970 Nova YENKO edition, Candy apple Red with Black interior with the White Yenko seat treatment inside, off Ebay but was enticing me by an upgrade like a "Corvette 5.7 and a 5 Speed" Looked soooo good in those pictures. I immediately paid for it, then called the guy. He said "You can't buy that car, it's already sold last night!" I freaked, but he assured me I'd get my $ back. He was actually represented by a dealer who was reputable, and I called the Dealer and he was all apologetic and even gave me $100 for the issue. I thought no sweat always another. About a month later, the Dealer called me and said if I still wanted the car, a guy about 5 hrs away in a little town, with a wife and 2 little ones. He was the one who bought it the day before. Sadly he had sold his PERFECT 1970 Nova for the same $7,500 two years before cause of hard times. Now cause he had some cash save up, this was to be his replacement. I met him and he showed me the car. It was a total gutpile! A Mud Bucket waving at you going down the road! The Black interior was originally green and painted over black and would scratch off with fingernail, The carpet was cheap auto carpet from a Building store NOT Custom. The engine had HUGE Misfires and backfires. 5th gear was popping out. The suspension was SHOT! There was Mud dust throughout!!! He said he'd take whatever I would pay within reason. The Dealer got screwed too... He told me that sadly for him, he cut a deal with the guy the day before I bid, and by going around EBAY's Buyer Protection, the buyer had no recourse, and l the Dealer got screwed out of his commission too. There was NOTHING the dealer could do, and could you blame him if he could do something, he didn't? They went behind his back!

What I have found with many auction sites is that even if you tell them what's wrong with it they don't put it on the listing because they know they can get more money. I put a 2005 Ford f450 in the auction with 370,000 miles. It had a 6.0 powerstroke with a cracked head. Only once it got up to temp. did it start burning coolant. Not only that, it had a leaking axle seal, as well as a slipping transmission. Even after writing all of that down when I dropped it off, none of that made it into the listing. Be careful out there folks.

A better Intake is actually one of the most recommended upgrades you can do. The main thing is that you need to make sure it is compatible with all the sensors your car may have on it's stock intake. I wouldn't personally view a aftermarket intake as a red flag unless it doesn't have any of the OEM sensors going to it.

I bought an 03 Buick LeSabre from an 80 year old man, told me it was his wife’s car who passed away. I gave him $2500 for it. I did t think an 80 year old would scam me. Turns out the rear air suspension leaked and is shot, the sunroof leaks when it rains, and there’s oil getting in the coolant which turns it to mud. A mechanic told me not to put another nickel in it, i would have to junk it soon.

My second car was a Dodge Dakota. Unfortunately I had it for only 2 weeks, because it got stolen. It was stolen while I was at work at that, by another employee. That employee wrecked it only like a mile up the road. The thief ran a red light and gunned it into the side of a U-Haul truck. Completely totaled my truck, the engine sat on the ground fluids everywhere. Crazier was the engine was crushed some and cracked. Frame obviously was done, the entire front end destroyed. U-Haul truck was done too, at least the cargo area of it. The thief spent about a month in the hospital and then went to jail, 3 years prison and 2 years probation. I miss that truck so much. First one I fully bought on my own and was so happy I bought it on my own. Didn’t need my parents to match what I had. Worked hard, saved up and bought it. Was only 17 at the time. It got stolen the day before my 18th birthday. Bit of my heart, bit of me died with that truck.

The customers only real option of he didnt want a shop to restore it is to send that back to the auction.... which is exactly what the auction companies want, they make money from the sale fees. If you are interested in an auction vehicle, have a mechanic go to the lot and inspect it... or only bid on it as a parts car. The cheap cars get much less cheap after fees and shipping.

This was my best friend’s “ not this customer” dream truck. We tried so hard to tell him not to buy one of these money pits. It is what he wanted though. The short blocks are very reasonable $1100-2700 with warranty. The body and paint looks great on This truck . The 46RE automatic anyone that does any research knows after 100,000 miles you are on borrowed time. The electrical gremlins in the are very common but can be dealt with.. Putting $8000-12000 in a $13000 truck sucks but if it’s your dream truck go for it. I would sell it take the loss or learn to do the work yourself. Really sucks that there are scum bags that screw people over by selling things that they know have issues without disclosing them.

GOOD ADVICE : # 1. NEVER BUY A FRESHLY PAINTED CAR ! unless you really know the unit. # 2. ALWAYS, ask the seller, if you can have it looked at by a expert before you buy. If they don't, THEN WALK. #3 The sellers don't get rid of their vehicles because, they ride, drive and gives such good service that they " can't stand it anymore. #4 People who buy performance or have their vehicles modified with race parts, don't do it to drive them to church or grocery store. # 5. EVERY BODY ON THE INTERNET, AIN'T YOUR BEST FRIEND ! BUYER BEWARE

Cosmetically the car is a 7-8 which I can work on to get to my satisfaction. But, I want to make sure mechanically I'm not getting a "polished turd". I know the Nissan 3.5 motor is a great platform considering I had a 2006 Infiniti G35. The PPI is costing me $150.00 which I am more than willing to pay upfront in order not to lose thousands of dollars. I like the car but want to keep "emotions in check"!

I’ve been a tech for 26 years and I’m now independent. I do a lot of work for a dealer that buys cars at auction, and I’ve found that 98% of the time there’s a damn good reason cars are at the auction. Yes, you can run across a gem once in awhile, I’ve got a beautiful 07 Envoy that was bought at auction. Most of the time it’s either someone’s nightmare abortion problem that no shop could figure out, an integral part that failed and is no longer in production, major engine and/or transmission failure that’s been limped to the auction, a car that was used as a battering ram with a dent/smash on every single panel or a rusted out turd held together with duct tape that lasted long enough to drive it through the line. I always tell people to stay away from the “buy here, pay here” places and even the little rinky dink sleazy dealerships, although there are a small amount that do have decent vehicles if the owner knows what he’s doing. You really need to take these vehicles to a professional before you buy them.

This is exactly why I do all my own work. Most SHOP Mechs have no clue about Street Performance modifications. There is NOTHING RACE about that truck. I agree whom ever did the short block rebuild 1/2azzed it. YES a shop is probably going to charger $10000+ to fix it. I could do it myself in 2 weeks for less than $2500 including machining, gaskets, rings and bearings to include a tune from a reputable Tuner for these trucks!! FYI my Current 1999 Dakota R/T is in the middle of getting a Gen 3 Hemi and 6-speed Transmission all done by me. I've been around these trucks since they came out in 1998. Even with a crap engine that truck is easily still worth $6000-8000. If the owner wasn't competent enough to do his own Mechanicing he should not have bough it, these trucks are getting old and a lot of the parts (electronics) are starting to fail just from age. To this day it amazes me the things people buy without having any knowledge or doing research on! This isn't the 1980's any more!!

Overall, the truck seems to be in good shape. Just pull the engine and bore the cylinders out to the next larger size. May have been a bad deal if the engine problem wasn't disclosed though. Nothing wrong with performance parts, especially on a vehicle this old since there won't be a warranty regardless. Even warranties on "standard" replacement parts usually aren't transferrable.
