Yeah... But, to be fair, there is 'how much' Opel or Vauxhall in this car? Very high Peugeot 308 content, with some Vauxhall and Astra plastic labels stuck on. I love the externals, especially the nose, but as the driver, I'd be opting for something Peugeot iCockpit because that's what I'd be looking at the most. The infotainment system in this Astra is called the Pure Panel, which was only supposed to be offered on the base trim. Mid and high spec trim were supposed to come with the Pure Panel Pro, which is probably the version Matt refers to. The Pure Panel Pro doesn't have the piano black plastics, but a nice glass panel. However, the production of the Pure Panel Pro had to be moved from Ukraine to (if I remember it correctly), India, which wasn't ready in time. That's the reason why all models currently come with the regular Pure Panel, and the Pure Panel Pro has been removed from the pricing list. Also, funny to see how "White Jade" is the standard colour for the Vauxhall version. The Opel version offers the colour of the car in this video, "Amber Yellow", as standard, and white is an optional extra.

Looks awful though doesn't it? Quite a few manufacturer's are doing this 'slab' look at the moment and its just a quick, chest cop out. @@fastra3621 no doubt that Pure Panel Pro will look much better, but... I sat in one few days ago and I can say that Pure Panel looks ok when you're behind the wheel... it's definitely much better looking than that "board" Golf 8 have.... its piano black bezels are far uglier, these in Astra are much less noticeable. and the interior is minimalistic, but it doesn't feel dull, or sterile! in fact... as a person that downright despised every Opel model since 1975 (it started with the neighboring kid rivalry and was "helped" by Opel models in las t25-30 years 😋), I was rather surprised... in a pleasant and good way

They look fantastic in that colour! A really brave move, to match the highly competitive styling for a change. The last two generations have kinda just existed without being anything to get worked up about. Even the interior finally looks contemporary with its peers, apart from that tightwad screen surround. I'd hope buyer feedback sees them switch to the single panel for the top ICE/Hybrid models, too.

I've seen in the comments that it's a supply issue, and eventually the better panel will be used. As I'll be in the market in a couple of years or so, that should give it time to get the upgrade in more cars.

Top marks for the exterior! One of the best looking new hatchbacks in my opinion, the styling is not too much and not too little and that black Chevrolet style grill suits it perfectly. They could’ve done a lot better inside though, there’s no need for so many screens. I don’t get that with cars these days, there should just be one for infotainment and one for the dials (or even just traditional dials would be good 😅). It’s far too basic inside it almost looks empty, yet again same with most new cars these days. If they did a VXR, I would hands down have this over a Golf R

Its not as well tuned as the Civic's 1L VTEC Turbocharged engine (which outputs 129bhp being a 1L!) but I mean its good performance in daily life that you require like no struggles in overtaking I am sure, but civic is quite a bit of fun to drive being a family hatchback, short-throw 6 speed manual and the low sitting position gives it that sporty driving experience. Also comes standard with adaptive cruise control, lane assist and all the modern features. If you want a more sports inspired daily, I think civic is a perfect choice (focus is also for that, but civic is another very good choice to keep in mind!) The driving experience of a civic is amazing.

@@theweeknd2725 I have the GS Line trim, 1.2 turbo (130bhp) and it's plenty fun to drive, very nippy. Also has all the modern features (adaptive cc, lane assist, etc) as well as the panoramic camera, smart lights, sport bucket seats, etc. Definitely a fun drive. Not sure on the standard trim but the GS line goes far beyond "good performance in daily life".

This beautill english accent is so easy to understand, i could think i'm fluent in english lol. Thank you for this review. The only problem with this car, to my mind, is the interior, general design is good, but details lokk cheapn like central aerator , middle consol very flat , no special work , the pure panel, not totaly flat between screen and piano black parts, fornt dors with too much hard plastic on the most visible part (were we can see Handles) that's the reason i choose the 308, because even if i looove exterior design ok 308, i have a little preference for the Astra, but interior is much much bertter in the 308.

Great exterior design, very fresh and new, a big pat on the back for that. Shame about the interior, which looks rather clunky and a bit 5-years-ago, and not very spacious. Especially the dashboard which seems to have been bought from Wish. If I had paid £24k for that, I would be rather hacked off to say the least.

Hey Matt- a way to visualise the NVH levels in the car you could place a glass of water or coffee in the cup holders in the centre console. Gives a really gud feel and visual aid (like in the 1st Jurasic Park movie 😜) to know the vibration (when idling n in slow speeds) 👍

@@countyantrimman They can't do it because of EU emission quotas. Stellantis doesn't sell enough EVs to allow for a sportier engine. That's why a 130 HP 1.2 litre 3 cylinder is the strongest ICE option they offer for the Astra/308. But now they even scrapped the 1.6 4 cylinder (180 or 225 hp) engine from biggers cars such as the Grandland or the 508 and only offer it with this 1.2. Go figure.

I think you missed the most important aspect in the video (and this goes for all car reviews nowadays). For me it is very important to know how much gas the cars need in real life and how reliable it is. A car like this should be focused on low gas consumption rather than having millions of features. With the rising usage of electric systems and gadgets cars are prone to fail sooner and more often. I know a review of a new factory car can't cover reliability but it would be nice to be informed about the fuel consumption rates. Other than that, this was a very detailed and well done review by also talking about some of the cars negativ features.
