I bought the Toyota Corolla!😁 3 months later and no complaints. It's good for 4 people not 5. I mostly drive alone, so no issues on my end. Edit: For those asking what complaints I should have after 3 months. I was referring to the build quality and living with the car. I was skeptical about the small boot/trunk space, but I love the fact that the rear seats fold completely flat. No squeaks or random rattles like my previous VW Polo.
@Sto79Be2 жыл бұрын
Why do people always say “no complaints” or “no problems so far” after such little time or miles. If complaints were common after an average of only 3 months for a car manufacturer, they’d be out of business fast. Give it 5-10 years of no complaints and I’ll be mildly impressed.

I've had the Corolla hatchback (US 2.0L version) for 2 years now and it's been lovely owning this car. It looks stunning and it has fairly nice driving dynamics. however if you're someone who has a family or more than one friend, they're probably not gonna have the best time in the back especially if they're tall. It does have very good storage but the rear passenger room is almost non-existent especially if the passenger is tall. I happen to work at a Honda dealership as well and I'd say the civic is a little more luxuries especially if you choose the higher trims. It has probably the best interior design in the segment and it drives... Maturely. I don't know how to exactly describe it. It drives really nice and it handles great but it's not as classic as the Corolla (And the US version of the corolla is considerably faster than the US civic). If you need a cool fun little hatchback for yourself the Corolla is the way to go but if you need something more family oriented then the civic is the clear winner.

Because the Honda drives on electric motor, it is so damn smooth(it is essentially an electric car with on-board generator). Then I drove a dual-clutch automatic car. I was wondering if the transmission was broken lol. I was genuinely concerned about how the car was shifting gears! If you try the new Honda hybrid system, I guarantee you'll love it! And it's very fuel efficient. Even in sports mode when you drive it like a maniac it still gets 25+ MPG US. Normal driving would go even up to 45MPG easy! Went shopping for a family car with bigger boot earlier this year, so I was comparing the estate versions. and when comparing the Corolla TS GR Sport to the Ceed SW GT-line (highest trims, and biggest engines cause I'm a sucker for that) the Ceed won hands down for boot space , comfort and every option except wireless apple car play vs price (at least in Belgium market trims). Also did the math quite extensively and the premium for the Corolla being a hybrid just really wasn't worth it in any reasonable term (especially when taking taxes for a 2.0l into account). But that may depend on your country of course. Unfortunately the Honda Civic e:HEV wasn't available, because that looks SHARP. But it would have probably been eliminated because of the fact there's no estate version. And 400l of boot space, while a lot for a C class hatch, just isn't all that much when you're hauling around a buggy for 2 kids in addition to... well anything else (that's barely 50l more than my Dacia Sandero which was being replaced). So I got my full option Ceed SW GT-line, with a decent discount for being a demo car, two weeks ago and so far, no regrets.

I’m fed up with paying so much for my 2020 BMW M340i what with monthly PCP, £40K+ road tax, insurance, £50 per month servicing and then insurance and petrol (basically, £1,000+ per month) so test drive the Civic Advance. I have to say, the Honda felt just as well engineered as the BMW with as good handling and a better ride! Yes my 374bhp BMW is a bit faster but, in all sincerity, after my extended 4 hour test drive of the Civic, the M340i didn’t feel that much faster around town and away from the lights plus it felt like it was trying so much harder; the Civic felt more effortless. Also, the BMW seats felt like cardboard after the lovely soft leather chairs in the Civic! I loved the interior of the Civic and it’s clever design touches although why Honda angled the infotainment screen away from the driver is beyond me! I am seriously thinking about trading in my M340i for an Advance in blue premium paint!

Just got the Corolla Hatchback last month (US, 2L naturally aspirated gas engine). I researched for months and tried to get a good deal on a Civic as it really does feel like a better car. I ultimately went with with the Corolla because of price. Got it for $28k. No Honda dealers even considered negotiating the price and after their markups and addons, the best price for a Civic I found was $37k. That being the case, the Rolla is just the better option. Loved it so far!

If only they offered 2.5 L with turbo in Europe... But they don't and the naturally aspirated 2.0 is no match for the new Civic. It's painfully sluggish - my test drive on a highway was a traumatic experience. Civic rides better as well. But Mazda is a much prettier car, that's for sure.

Honda often tend to be conservative on power, my icdti Accord easily trounced the VAG diesel saloons of the time, the Honda was supposed to be 139bhp but came up on dynos as 156bhp and was a shade more compact so explained it.

As a Honda fan, it always baffles me to check the comments below Honda auto reviews from the UK only to find myself hit by a wave of indifference and contempt. I think it may partially be caused by Honda's traditional ruthless pursuit of efficiency, which in the past has often left their cars feeling a little cheap or unfinished.
@kiliandjfilms Жыл бұрын
In my experience, the problem is that they have quite few dealers, people don't like having to drive far to find an official dealer, it also makes the barrier bigger to try one. They are also priced higher then many European brands (for obvious reasons), so people are scared to spend more money, on a brand they know little about. And the marketing just sucks, VW, Renault, Peugeot, Toyota, Volvo, are everywhere, Honda almost never spends anything on marketing over here. People genuinely don't know what they sell. When you mention Civic, most still think of that simple small hatchback from the 90's, they have no idea what a great mid-sized family vehicle it is now.

Great review thanks Mat, and interesting comparision. The Civic does sound like a stand out car. In NZ the Civic comes with a 1.5 turbo rather than the 2.0 hybrid. I've driven the new Jazz hybrid and agree that the idea of using the ice as a generator rather than direct drive makes for a great power unit, so it would be interesting to try it with the larger ice and car.

The 0-60 time of the civic is almost unbelievable. It's more than 1 second faster. The only reason I can think of is that they measured it in the normal/comfort mode. Seems weird to me as a better 0-60 (although not very important imo) can give a extra pro to a family that is looking for their next car.

Skoda get alot off recognition in Europe on general. But they are non exsistant in North America and various other areas of the world much like Seat and Dacia.. They are basicly a VW and its VW that get the attention and sales were Skoda are not.. Japanese brands like Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Honda are sold world wide in comparison to Skoda.

The eCVT (electronic Continuously Variable Torque) system is designed to mimic gear changes to make the drive more “acceptable” to most drivers. However, if the driver attempts a really rapid “brake hold” standing start (in the old days, this would have been the equivalent of holding the brakes against the stall speed of a traditional automatic transmission), the eCVT system will assume the driver really wants maximum acceleration and is less concerned about the sound; the system will therefore NOT interrupt the flow of torque (however momentary to mimic gear changes) and thus hold the engine / motor at maximum power whilst the accelerator is held fully down. I hope that explains the reason why the powertrain doesn’t mimic gear changes during REALLY hard acceleration.

The Honda Civic really has been a surprise. The previous generation looked good on the road but the engine choices were just bland. This actually a quick car "normal" car now. 0-60 in under 7 seconds is far quicker than most other cars on the road. It looks sleeker inside and out than ever before and the build quality is bound to be great. Very interesting proposition. I would be extremely interested if they did a mildly hot version, like and SI.

Honda for the win, in fact i'd choose a Japanese car over any European all day. Had Peugeot, Renault and Volkswagen all were good but only because they were older models from the 80's and 90's back when they made good cars, owned a Kia once was ok but rotten with rust. Now driving a Honda Jazz and its been a great car so far, not as fast as my Honda FireBlade but reliable :)

Those 0-60 timings are nothing to scoff at. Given the fact that the engine horsepower output is around the mid 100s to near 200hp, it's a remarkable shift in performance upgrade over the previous generation of cars. I mean 10 years ago a 2 liter turbo car would hit around 7 seconds from the luxury brands. These cars are doing luxury car performances 10 years ago today with hybrid technology and small cap engines with or without turbo charging. For the everyday consumer, those acceleration rates are fast enough. The exact same marques like civic or corolla some 10 to 20 years ago would be doing 0-60mph in 10 seconds or more. Times have changed and e motors with the electromagnetic propulsion simply generates superior torque to ICE engines.

Unfortunately none of these instant "journalists" ever measure fuel efficiency so I'll tell you - Honda civic uses between 4 - 5 liters per 100 km or ca 60 mpg (brittish gallons) but can easily use 80mpg in and around city making it the most fuel efficient car in this group and one of the most efficient ICE cars available. For people without personal chargers Honda is by far the most practical and environmentaly friendly car for the money and excellent car on itself.
