It’s time for a three-way AWD drag race!
That’s right, Mat’s got his hands on the new four-wheel-drive BMW M3 Competition, and he’s going up against two other AWD cars, the Tesla Model 3 Performance & the Audi RS5!
Does the BMW have what it takes to take down the opposition? Well, let’s check out the stats… It’s powered by the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as you’ll find in the RWD edition, and it’s got the same power output - 510hp & 650Nm. It’s a bit heavier, though, weighing in at 1,780kg.
Alongside Mat’s the Model 3 Performance, which is powered by a 75kWh battery pack & dual electric motors to deliver 460hp and 640Nm. It also tips the scales at 1,850kg. So sure, it’s a bit down on power, but will the ability to instantly put down the power help out?
Finally, we have the Audi RS5. It’s the least powerful car here, with its 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 putting out 450hp & 600Nm. But it’s also the lightest, weighing in at 1,740kg.

The current generation of BMW’s performance cars are just soooo bloody quick. More so than some of their power and torque outputs suggest is possible, as if they’re punching well above their weight. BMW M are really at the top of their performance game at the moment, even with EVs.

The M3 is just so underrated HP wise... I'm amazed at my ability to keep up with my friends in Z06 Vettes, R8's and even Aventador when we doing roll races at the track. Its impressive out of the box. Ive seen a several tuned CompX cars running high 9sec quarter miles with only a tune/downpipes and a splash of e85. Just an impressive motor and drivetrain combo

You guys should start to pre-condition these teslas because you make them look a lot slower than they actually are. The pre-conditioning is more vital toward performance than battery SOC is. This car is capable of doing the 1/4 mile in 11.4s @118mph

Bruh u had to pre heat the battery before every run. Be in perfect conditions. Use lighter tires. Be at 98% or better charge. Too get an 11.5 quarter mile. Thats not legit. Stop lying under every video that it can do those times. Plus ur on a REAL TRACK SURFACE WITH BETTER GRIP its not a real street time. On a street in real life ur getting a 11.7 or wose everytime as shown in every single video I've seen

I hated it when it was first shown, then i saw it a couple of Times in Person here in Germany and now i'm basically like "I prefer the smaller Grill, but the big one doesn't look too bad." That said. Having a Front License Plate helps a lot make it less ugly, i know in some US States you don't need a Front License Plate and just like with Audi, the big BMW Grill would look horrible without Front License Plate. Also speaking of Audi, when Audi switched from Normal sized Grill to Huge Grill, People had the same Reaction as to he big BMW Grill. Now everyone got used to the gigantic Audi Grills (much larger than the BMW Grill btw.) I haven't seen anyone complain about the gigantic Audi Grills in 10 Years, i believe it will be the same with BMW (if they stick to it) Prost & Cheers from the Bavarian Alps

it's cheaper for a reason .. u people make 0 sense. U get 0 luxury in a tesla and they cut corners to make their profit margins as much as possible. Think about this. The tesla model s plaid was 140-160k last year and now in one year it's 60k used and 89k new. That's historic depreciation. It obviously was never even worth 100k with what's used to make it. If they can make a profit off selling it new for 89k who knows what it actually cost to make 😂 they use the lowest grade shit. It'd basically an ipad on wheels. Nothing feels special about being in or seeing a tesla. They are dull and plain jane. Tesla uses "minimalistic" design as an excuse to drive profit margins up. Elon and tesla do anything they can fo fool their audience.

So for 99.9% of the time the Tesla is going to pretty much see off most other cars. The bang for buck is unbelievable. I purchased one 3 months ago, to gain access to that sort of performance in anything else would cost more than double and the running costs would be very very high, and reliability perhaps somewhat spotty. I’m able to access close to supercar performance (within legal limits) for a fraction of the cost.

Solid race and comparison. As a former f80 m3 owner very happy with how this new g80 m3 performs. It is a masterpiece of an engine although the front grill is still ehh. As a current model 3 performance owner very happy with the consistent 11.7 quarter mile. Much better race than the model 3 performance vs bmw i4 m50 where the model 3 ran a suspicious 12.0 quarter mile. Still would like a proper rerace of those 2 cars.

I run 11.3 and 11.4's in my M3P. The races carwow does are always way slower than what most owners actually get. Draggy app proves these results as well as Dragtimes drag slip times. The xDrive M3 is not quicker than the M3P in the 1/4 mile either. Carwow didn't even state the SoC of the M3P nor the year build.

we bought a Model 3 dual motor and it cost under US $60K when all was said and done. 8 months ago. And the fit is very good, the wind noise thing must be a hoax because the only you noise you hear is less than if you turn off your gas engine and coast. And while an old lady would be scared of a 500hp 8000rpm V8 and 6 speed, my other half (72) likes to floor her silent, 1 speed, new Model 3 and zip up to 60. BMW M3 X-drive has made a comeback. I'd love to own one. But my budget just isn't there for it. For me my Tesla 3 LR with boost (almost a performance) is probably the best car that will just about keep up and be affordable as a daily car. I'd feel very guilty adding 100 miles of highway a day to an M3. But for a Tesla, its comfort and fast all day every day, no guilt of adding miles, cheaper tyres, service, and fuel costs

Owned a Model 3 P. A model Y P. And am F82 M4 which is faster than the G82 non awd. Mine is stage 2+. The Tesla is faster for awhile then takes a dump. I liked the MYP ALOT more than the 3. Alot. It felt just as quick also. But the M has SOOOO much more soul. Is so much more satisfying to drive and own amd is faster on the highway.

@@Cal3000 maybe? I feel like it has more to do with distribution / traction / brake size though. Sure the regen is there, but the car doesn't need that to lock the wheels up. It can do that on brakes alone. The key is maintaining traction while slowing down as fast as possible. That's how you get the best stopping distance. If they were in track mode they may have very well had regen turned off anyway.

A single iPad and bulky steering wheel? BMW gives u luxury seats or carbon fiber bucket seats for sports cars, HUD, FSD+Auto Parking, crystal scroll wheels and buttons that feel good to click, sporty slim steering wheel that has good quality, etc.. teslas are cheap for a reason they cut corners on alot of shit and they are depreciating at an historic rate. Bad quality,alot of plastic,no HUD,no 360 cam, no ventailed seats or ambient lighting, no carbon fiber,etc.. They accelerate fast but look like basic traffic 😂 I rather have a cool looking car with luxury. BMWs are a real aggresive and mean looking sports cars with a head turning engine.

Definitely love me a BMW M3 - it was my first sports car. I currently own a model 3 performance now, and can say this: when you race someone on the streets, the likelihood of losing is slim to none, reason being no one is driving over 100-110mph on a city street or even a highway like that. Sure the M3 moves in the longrun, but just watch the 30 roll and look at that gap through 90mph.

One will come and go the other will remain timeless. Teslas are a poor man's fast car. Why would someone want a car that u see everyday on the road? The answer is u really don't u just defend it cuz it's what u can afford. No one on the road or at a car meet would ever double take or take a pic of a tesla. U would get infinitely more compliments in a high end BMW/Porsche/Merc. U sacrifice all that just to accelerate quick once in a blue moon. What tech do they have that other cars dont? Every car has FSD and auto Parking.
