I really love the look of the new XC40! When you add the Inscription trim to the vehicle with out the optional lava, it takes on very smart look. Volvo is always in a class of it's own.

absolutely, working for the company, my only complaint is that the 40 doesn't have the option for ventilated seats, and the Advanced package doesn't come with the Heads-up display... but the 40 is intended to be less expensive

BUT the xc40 you’re showing has paddle shifters, nappa leather, apple carplay etc. The xc60 is still more expensive either way, if you wanted any of those options, even while being the older model.

You guys are so lucky. Even the XC40 basic trim costs £62K here in India. With deposit of £6K and £250 monthly price, all I could get was a Ford EcoSport.

he is comparing the base model xc60, to the fully loaded xc40. Its not a fair fight/ price. A full loaded 3series can be close to $60k and you can get a base model 5series in the mid $50k

Start adding some of the options to that xc60 that the xc40 has and the price is skyrocketing i.e. Add 12 inch digital display, navigation, 20 inch wheel, upgrade sound system, heads up display, bird eyes view camera and etc and that xc60 is almost additional $20k

Just ordered a fully loaded XC60 T6 R-Design in white with 22" rims. It's a true beauty. As far as exterior and interior are concerend, X3, Q5 and GLC do not even come close. Can't wait to get it in 3-4 months.

I completely agree with the comparison concept. Here in Sweden price differences between new Volvo models are disappearingly small. I am talking about new XC60, XC40, new V60 and even V90, all with similar engines and transmissions. And when the price differences are not bigger than a price of a good racing bicycle, then the choice of a car can become a headache.

AT LAST! A car review that covers REAL WORLD costs of buying the car!!! Thank you Car WOW. Back in 2016 I was looking at a BMW M4 CP or Mercedes C63S Coupe. On paper the well spec'd beemer was the cheaper car, but due to high PCP interest and "tighter than a ducks butt" discounts the equally well spec'd Merc (for me) worked out cheaper per month even though the list price was almost £8K more! Great review too!

yeah i also agree . XC40 even in the headlights is more modern.The shape of the Thor hammer headlights...more well designed in my opinion. Front of the car also more imponent more high with that inverted grill...curiously the same grill found in the recent few weeks "Polestar 1" supercar of Volvo. For me XC40 is a better car. It's just me and my girlfriend for now.And i always live the moment.I don't waste time worrying too much about the future or the upcoming years.i live day by day. If "tomorrow" i get family of my own then i will think about a roomier car.Even if XC40 is great in the backseat for kids.Easily you can travel with 3 kids with all the space they need. So i have just turned 35 years old few weeks ago and for me,in my humble opinion,XC40 is a more younger sportier car. I guess all agree with me.

Compairing apple to oranges! Difference between XC40 an XC60 with same trim option (Momentum) and same engine (190 hp petrol) is about EUR 7000 / GBP 6200.

I went and had a look at the XC40 today and I felt the interior was a real let down, especially compared to the XC60. The plastics and trim all just felt a bit cheap and isn't justified in the car's price.

Prices in the US are different: A fully loaded (except wheels) XC40 R US$45K XC60 R $55K X3 (4cyl) $59K X3 (6cyl) $65K As a gift, I would rather have the 6-cyl. But if the choice is between which is worth $65K of my money, the X3 or an XC40 with $20K in cash in the passenger seat, I could not quite justify the BMW.

It funny because there is no huge price difference in UK. In Finland XC40 starts at 42k€ and XC60 starts at 62k€. And even the XC90 is almost 100k€ in here starting at 90k€... Our car prices are stupid

steam slayer - I have a 2 year old XC60 here in the UK, last week a dealer offered me a new XC60 for the same money I am paying at the moment. In my present vehicle I have negative equity (meaning I owe money on it so any trade in should be expensive). The dealer said I need pay no deposit they would just take my old XC60 and I just need to pay the same money I pay at the moment. Funnily enough I said no!!

In Slovenia xc60 starts from 39.900 eur (D3 business) and 46.990 eur for D4 awd a business. And XC40 from 29.990 eur (T3 intro), XC40 D4 awd a momentum fe is 39.990 eur. Quite cheap, even for our standards, comparing to German rivals...

lol it's just a totally different feel. the Xc40 is more Youthful, with the Wireless charging port and the whole look is just a more sporty fun look.. while the Xc60 is much more of a luxury feel. it's more of a legit small family SUV. but yes, this Xc60 is not as well equipped as the Xc40. the 40 has more packages in this video. it's kinda not an "apples to apples" comparison

XC60 T6 hands down the better buy!! I bought mine (2020) in July. I had not intended too but the dealer was near the Jeep Dealer and I could not find the Grand Cherokee I wanted. I drove the XC60 T6 and BAM!! That supercharger is awesome!! I am also 6'1" and the XC40 is too small. Plus they do not offer the T6!! I would have bought a XC90 but I could not get one without 7 seats. I am single, retired so kids aren't passengers. I wanted the extra room for my bicycle and other cargo but no luck. Volvo would not sell one with 5 seats only. My one complaint is the GPS mapping system. It is absolutely rotten. I have to use my phone and google maps as Volvo Map gets you lost! And it does not accurately spot and update your location.

You could use the savings to add a few options to the XC60, but that would take it over the £40k list price threshold thus adding around £300 per yr road VED. Just shows how times change tho and why not to buy a newly launched car - 18mths on and discounts around £3500 mark on the car tested.

Digital screen is cheaper then analog gauges , isnt it , even if its not , these guys never test anything , you have 2 cars here and they cant find the difference , all they can say , is XC 60 is better investment , compared to what . Nothing said here

I agree with all your review. I ended up buying the XC60 because of space and overall a better value, one thing I need to add, the XC60 you compared to the XC40 is absolute "Fugly" My XC60 has the R-type package and looks a lot like the XC40 you showed, and looks amazingly cool. one thing I noticed as well is that with the longer wheelbase mine has noticeable less roll. but either SUV would make a great choice.

can you address the car throttle lag too? It has been one of the major issue for car manufacturer to safe more fuel and sacrifice their performance. For example, audi S4 has alot of throttle lag to compensate for more fuel efficiency.

XC40 with 17" wheels (more rubber = better ride) would be the winner. Even in medieval times, royalty would rather travel by river than by road, for the comfort of the ride. Bigger wheels make tiny potholes feel like gargantuan gulches.

i honestly like the XC40 the best, looks way more modern, only problem is its price tag of 60 000 dollars in norway, its not competitive to other car brands at all since theyre half the price. EDIT: ohh... its actually down to 40 000 dollars now... Maybe they werent selling good enough... When they first hit the market here they costed over 60 000 dollars.

Tough choices these days in the SUV market. 'Pretty' cars like the XC40 & the Peugeot 3008 with more 'functional' cars like the Mazda CX5, Seat Ateca, Skoda Karoq etc. Trying hard to figure out the best 'bang for the buck' when I trade in my 5 year old Qashqai. 10 grand difference between some of these & the Volvo. Decisions, decisions lol.

I've ordered an XC40 R-Design Pro, the wait time is horrific. If you're prepared to wait then do it but you best be prepared to hanker down for a long year! I've been test driving many different cars since I ordered mine to make sure that what I've ordered is the right one for me. I've had a Citroen C3 Aircross, Mini Countryman, Countryman PHEV, Countryman Cooper S, 2 different VW T-Rocs and at the moment I'm driving around in a BMW X1 M Sport. Not one of them, other than the Countryman Cooper S has come close to the feeling I got in the Volvo. I have just started looking at the Skoda Kodiaq because I couldn't believe how far Skoda has come in the past couple of years but after going to see it and while yes the interior looks great, the grab handles to closed the door creaked and groaned. I'm driving around in an 11 year old Focus CC at the moment, it's done 161k miles and the interior is as solid as anything so I don't really want to "upgrade" to something that creaks when you shut the door.
