Who’s ready for a Toyota vs Volkswagen pickup truck showdown?! We’ve got the new Hilux going up against the Amarok!
So how do the stats for these two compare? Well starting with the all-new Hilux, it’s powered by a 2.8-litre 4 cylinder diesel which can produce 204hp and 500Nm of torque. It weighs around 2.1 tonnes, and when new, will set you back about £40,000.
As for the Volkswagen, well that’s powered by a 3-litre V6 diesel, and as a result, it can put down 258hp and 580Nm of torque. It’s slightly heavier than the Toyota, at 2.2 tonnes, and it also costs slightly more, coming in at £43,000.
So the VW clearly has more power, but will the extra weight drag it down? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

3:30 Hi Mat ! I just want to let you know that these Toyota’s S mode stands for sequential (kinda manuall). In Toyota’s these transmissions mostly acts as a gear limiter meaning that if you put it in 2-3or 4 for example the transmission will shift normally until the selected gear on the display on the dashboard. However the S actually makes the car a little more sporty because you can hold the gears a little longer than if it was in D (Normal mode) . I can tell because I have a 2015. Rav4 with practically the same gearbox with P-R-N-D and S (+/- ) on the side. And also the car goes in S4 because it’s a safety measure to prevent any damage to the transmission while switching from D to S while drive for example. Hope that helps you understand 😁 . And I hope you’ll see this message 😁👍🏾

Even though I love Toyotas, the result was obvious. 2 more cylinders and 50 extra hp makes the difference, plus everyone knows that the V6 Amarok is a beast, with a simple ecu tune you can make it even faster and have like 300hp+. You're comparing a 4,500RPM car with a Supercar (8,500rpm of rev's till the red line for and average supercar and 9,500rpm for an average N.A Supercar.). You must be living with diesel's cause the first car I drove when I was a kid also could rev up till 6,200rpm until it reached it's red line, lol.

I’d give my eye teeth for either one of these rigs . Sadly, I live in Canada and the best I can do is a gas Tacoma. Can’t WAIT for a few years to pass so i can import an Amarok.

You dont get Amaroks in north america? Im surprised by this. Fuel is so expensive in the UK and combustion engines will be phased out soon so expect some awsome Hiluxs to be exported. They are the best trucks ever made

I'd take the Hilux all day long. Engines go on forever, off roads as good as a land rover or jeep. My dad owns a 5th gen (2007) with 249,000 miles, only problem it has ever had is that the fuel pump has developed a leak. Other than that, runs like new! Also regularly carries a tonne on the back, and is more than capable of towing daily

Anyone who buys a Ute other then an amarok has rocks for brains .... source* I have drivin and owned almost every big brand Ute on the market. On road, off road, sand, long distance driving you name it. Amarok from an overall percpective tops them all
