It's like I'd a 4runner got rid of any mechanical features it had to help it off-road, and replaced it with grange technology that only works on low difficulty terrain, and won't help you in actually offroading

@@jyotirmayulemale9870 because most KZbinrs aren't actually doing offroading. Most "offroading" reviews is taking vehicles on dirt roads with some dips and turns. Solid axiles are by far the most important thing on an offroading vehicle. There's a reason why people are still rock crawling Jeeps from the 70's. The land rover is a very comfortable car that functions well in moderate off road conditions.

they didn't show or shot when the Jeep going up on the second to last obstacle when the Merc had its wheels up in the air, I bet the Jeep did not lift at all. This was shamefully biased. on the hill climb Jeep went up with almost no momentum vs the order two who sped up the hill.

I have no preference out of any of them but the tests are not equal...drag race each line is different, through the forest turning is just down to whoever gung-ho's in the most, the hill climb was just momentum and not a test, and everything picked by Graham is just bias.

I'm ok with entertainment type car content, but then don't score the vehicles and declare a winner. If you want to score something, score the presenters (like top gear did as to who won the challenges).

@@djsomeguy I don't think they are consciously trying to bias the tests, perhaps a little fear of upsetting someone who gave them a car but you can see for example that Matt generally pushes a little harder than the others no matter what car he's in so I think the bias is in the relative competitiveness of the drivers rather than towards the cars. I totally agree that the way they score it does suggest it's an accurate representation of the cars which obviously isn't true so something like you said would be a better approach.

For the price the Jeep punches well above it's weight. All that's missing on it is a nice aftermarket lift kit and it will still cost less than the others and likely be way more reliable over time. The jeep really is bargain

As someone who's had a big portion of my life going off roading, i can say this wasn't a very accurate test. The Jeep wrangler is without a doubt the best Off roader out of the bunch, due to its suspension and ladder frame design. The other two have both become more focused at being city cars. The Jeep shouldn't have lost the articulation test, and judging by how dangerously high the Defender's wheels were in the air during the last test, the jeep should have won that too, and the race around the tree all depended on who was willing to drive the quickest over the rough terrain. In a real world, proper off road course in the mountains or any other inconsistent and uneven terrain, the Jeep will be by far ahead of the rest, because there articulation is very important and actually essential to not tipping or rolling your vehicle

@@arvidjohansson3120 Well it's less of a factor than the suspension, you're right. But it's more rugged, easier to repair and modify for extra height and clearance later along the lines. But the most important factor about the ladder frame suspension is it's ability to stay rigid and not flex under heavy articulation. I guess that just further falls in with the ruggedness factor but it's important for someone who's actually going off roading allot.

I couldn't take anything seriously after we were supposed to believe the Jeep didn't comfortably win the wheel articulation part around 13:00. Last challenge Defender is all over the place, Jeep wheels never leave the ground yet Defender wins becoz reasons. Oh and Merc wins everything even though it couldn't complete all the challenges and the other two could (strange way to win for an off road battle). New Defender looks surprisingly good but I'd rather see an honest comparison.

As an all rounder the new Defender looks surprisingly comfortable around town and from all the serious reviews I've seen it's mighty impressive off road too, comfortably going head to head with the 200 series 'cruiser. That's why it's annoying that someone had to make things up (you have to be smoking something to think the Defender has anywhere near the articulation of the rubicon especially with swaybars disconnected), the Defender is plenty good enough to stand on its own merits and out of the three tested was arguably the best all rounder and best value for money.

Jeep provides skid plates and rock rails to protect the undercarriage. So what you scrape, you’re scraping steel. I’ve never seen a rover newer than 2005 on a trail, and definitely haven’t seen a g wagon.

Both the G and the Defender lifted tires in the video on the articulation portion. Also, on the hill climb both the G and the Defender took running starts where they just pulled the Jeep up to the hill and climbed slowly. You guys need more discipline in your tests.

@@JWil97 i never listen to review for buying a car, the majority are influencers advertising. Car Expert and Autogefühl seem the only ones that are fair and go into detail. When I'm buying a car I talk to my mechanic friends, they know which cars are good and which are not the best. And I also talk to friends who've owned multiple cars and learn from their experience. But I've never learned shit fr this channel apart from horsepower and torque 😅.

@@gc2234 nothing an inexpensive skid plate can't protect. Now, if you Defender decides to roll over... it loses points for safety and you might have a totalled car on your hands. Also the Jeep aftermarket is extensive, and a lot of products are quite reasonably priced too, so if you wanted a lift kit, its not going to cost much compared to the other two.

These tests also depend on how a person is driving the car not just on a car.

@Ashlee Burell no it’s not. Same driver needed for every test. Timed drag race with the same driver, same driver for the slope test, same start location, etc. The merc was the only one that launched on the maneuverability test too, so it got a quicker time. The Merc also had more momentum from the start on the rocky slope test, Jeep looked like it started with the lowest speed. All the vehicles could probably use less tire pressure too, looks to be on street air pressure. All 3 vehicles need the same driver, start points/speed for certain tests, same launches.. either off idle or boosted launch, same tires and tire pressure.

Totally agree, I would rather be in the Jeep it seemed a little biased rather than subjective. What the rover did with wheels off the ground that bad in such a relatively simple course was very dangerous.

That can be done, however, the tyres weren't the issue, lack of Ground clearance was, I don't think anyone would want to life a brand new 100K G Class, I could be wrong though.

My '96 Discovery would have put the Defender to shame with regards to articulation. What a pleasure to watch the Jeep and G flex. I love Land Rover and would take the Defender for my primary without even a thought. It is simply the best driver. The Defender simply has better manners and is a more modern vehicle to live with. It even has decent fuel economy. It would be nice to see the Full Size Range Rover in some tests though.

Totally agree, they establishes early in the video that the Wrangler had the least ground clearance yet the final challenge they didnt want to take the G Wagon down. Graham is an idiot, no place judging Off Roading when he knows nothing about it. And dont get me started on the first 3 challenges of "Racing" which really is not a test of off roading at all.

@Tawhid Choudhury - I’m def no Jeep fanboy I’m simply stating facts. I live in Colorado in the mountains. These lux cruisers couldn’t hold a flame to the capability of a true off-roader with twin straight axles. The G wagon, up until recently was the only contender to the Jeep albeit a tens of thousands more expensive. But now it has independent front suspension. Anyway, who are we kidding?, 99% of the people who buy these automobiles won’t be taking them off-road.

It could have done it, those G-Wagens are practically bomb proof underneath they have a lot of heavy duty plating. They were concerned about the idiotic side steps - loaner vehicle. If they dumped the side steps and had rock sliders, it would have easily gone through the last obstacle.

Yeah that was ridiculous I'm like man just follow the other tire tracks and go you don't need a spotter you're in a Rubicon with front and rear lockers and sway bar disconnects just ride the brake then go Jesus LOL They didn't really do that Rubicon Justice I drive a Land Rover Discovery 2 but I know for a fact down here in Arizona with the Rocky hill climbs we do all the rubicon's with just a size larger tires are down crawl up things with those front-rear lockers and do sway bar disconnects in those solid axles. It does things the defender can't do or at least a Defender can't do as easily. The defender doesn't have the articulation it weighs more and it is higher center of gravity. They're just choosing the Land Rover because they were both speaking with a British accent LOL what would you rather have in the forest yeah but would you rather have rock climbing and doing real manly stuff that Rubicon no question about it. That's why when they show a video of a Defender following some Jeep rubicon's around there all impressed and praising the defender while there's like 20 other Jeeps all doing the same thing easier and no one mentioned how good they're doing because it's expected but let's praise the defender for merely keeping up LOL they need to see some of those videos. Then you see the Jeeps go do other stuff when the cameras are put away and the defender says goodnight and goes back to the hotel for the evening video over

Defender is such a shitbox they always were and always will be have you seen those people testing one ? They got 300 miles out of it before it broke and had to have an entire new engine

D300 is out now, my dad received his last week. Bit disappointing they didn’t use it as it would have made the difference. :)

@@reubenrobinson2304 Due to lock down I’ve not seen it, but interestingly he had the D240 Defender before and got an offer he could refuse to upgrade! He said the D300 is significantly smother and the power is more than enough. :)

@@stownrow yeah totally agree the D400 E has a 0 to 60 in (5.4) so that should be the best defender so far

@@stownrow if you are getting a defender the only choice that you shoukd make is a 3.0 engine either diesel or oetrol, they suite the car better. The 2.0 engines are pure crap. The defender in the video didnt have the rear diff which even more disappointed cause the jeep was in its moat off road trim. They should have the defender x there.

Speaking as a machinist myself and knowing metal scrapings intimately, when you're bottoming out in the center like that and stopping all you're doing is letting the weight sit and continue to build and then going just an inch or two and stopping again, also makes you let the weight sit down on it again once you start moving and the small scrape starts happening simply let it slide all the way through and you will have minimal damage to the metal. AKA it's better to have a little ding then it is to have multiple large scrapes.Just a little advice to help you with your show and budget
