I think the difficulty here is that during the drag race they use multiple angles and sometimes go back a few seconds in the drag race to show different perspectives of the race. Maybe they could do their normal edit and then leave in a single shot 1 cut of the drag race with speed overlays and other data.

@@beastofackworth excess fuel has to be added to get pops and bangs when revving at stationary. When it's moving it hardly smokes for a highly modified diesel. Darkside Developments can tune it with almost no smoke but you loss a little bit of down low torque as spool time is increased.

Not good, watch officially gassed video on the diesel vs m4. In a diesel the actual power out down is a lot less due to the gearing. It’s better compared to the f82 m4 at 430-450 bhp.

Darkside really know their diesel tuning, had my seat ibiza fr 2.0tdi normally 143bhp and 320nm, they managed to get it to 197bhp and 480nm! Had the car for 6 years no issues whatsoever

@@maximc9033 tunes last forever, most tunes will be ok for the life of the car, however as engines wear and mileage increases a custom tune like I had really maxed out the turbo/flywheel pushing everything hard, I would tone things down a notch on high mile cars

I had the 430d 2016 plate for 3 years from new. Amazing car, and surprisingly family friendly with the hatchback boot. Excellent steering, tremendous torque. It's best suited as a GT for long cruises. And of course... it looks stunning in the lowered 430d guise. Xdrive versions are 3-4cm higher and look jacked up and less sporty, so either stick with the 430d for the 6 cylinder or get the xdrive and get some after market springs.

I once owned an 2011 E90 335d. Loved it. One of the best cars from stop light to stop light. The torque was amazing, and rhe diesel was so smooth. Back then they had egr issues it carbon buildup was a real problem.

I've been on the diesel hype train for the past 2 years. I own a 15' TDI golf sport wagon. Absolutely LOVE the car. Averaging 40mpg, 500-540 a full tank (depending on how I drive) Bone stock it's really fun being quick off the line, and torquey. It's not fast. But the mods available especially the interchangeability. I hope to make it an awd with either the alltracks drive train or a used Audi. My dad's tdi A6 is a BEAST.

For some reason since the e92 i always prefer a tuned x30-x35 than the M ones. A lot cheaper and with the right mods you have a great package.

I mean, that should be the reverse, no? In the E92 gen, the M is slower than the 335i after it gets a 100$ tune, but the M stays the same unless it gets forced induction, after market SC is like 10k..on the other hand the gen after the E92, they're all turbo'd six cylinders, the M and the 340 and 335.So the difference between them is literally just "the lesser version is less powerfu stock, but you can gain good gains, the better version is the same but more powerful stock and can have even better gains, the best is etc. And so on. There's really no reason to get a x30-x35-x40 instead of the M after the e92 gen if you have the money, whereas the difference between E92 gen trims is a fun but slow NA V8 (M) or the straight line king twin turbo I6 (335i n54) that can easily be faster than the V8 M3. They're basically two cars for two completely different audiences, as for the new bmws, it's basically just better trim=better car, simple as that, no huge difference just better in all categories, more power, more potential, better undercarriage. What kind of person would choose a 4 cylinder bmw over a 6 cylinder M engine if he has the money and is into cars? 🤷

Owned both (have the f82 now), 435d at stage 1 with zf box mapped too isn’t even close. From a dig it’ll pull away quicker obv due to the 4wd but that advantage ends pretty quickly tbh . Caveat is that stage 1 is nowhere near the 460bhp that this 430d was putting out.

@@brucerobertson5450 I still like to see this IRL instead of just speculation. On a quarter mile run I think the 435d would take the start and the M4 would struggle to win. The point here is that the only thing the M4 has over the 435d is performance. On all other aspects (practicallity, fuel economy, Xdrive, towing etc.) the 435d is the better choice and if you can have close to M4 performance with an easy stage 1 tune that makes the M4 less relevant since it also costs about twice as much.

@@dlmunlimited I agree the 35d takes the start, purely down to the 4wd, it MAY take the win in adverse conditions but otherwise the m4 will blitz past. As for the comment about the m4 only having performance, sorry but I couldn’t disagree more. The m4 isn’t JUST about straight line performance, it handles so much better, feels more of an occasion to drive and looks much better. The fuel economy between the 2 is also not as large as you might think. My 3 year average with the 435d was 34mpg, currently I am at 27mpg with the M4. Practicality depends on if you have gone for the grand coupe (which I had), however not a huge amount in it. My kids get in and out the m4 just as easily. A coupe 35d is no more practical than a m4 (it’s the same body after all). The 435d was a great car, but a mapped one is no m4. I used to think something similar before I got the m4, now I know different. I doubt anyone driving an m4 is sitting there thinking “oh how I wish I had a 435d”. The issue with these types of video is that it’s a snapshot in time, so many factors come into play to allow one car to beat another, who has the better tyres, who’s the better driver, who got the better launch, how hot/cold is it, raining /not raining etc.

@@brucerobertson5450 Don´t get me wrong. I am not saying the M4 is only about straight line performance, but it is a much more extreme car that just does not work in real life as the 435d will. I have never seen a GC M4 and I would guess that you still have the normal trunk and not the fastback like the GT. Your fuel economy seems way off, I have a 3 year average of 44mpg with lots of sport mode. I would certainly miss the 435d at the fuel pump if I had an average of 27 mpg, or when towing or in snow (or both at the same time) or when paying for the insurance...The M4 is a funnier car for sure, but let´s not pretend the M4 has anything on the 435d when it comes to practiality in daily use.

@@dlmunlimited with all due respect I have owned both, and there is very little the 435d does from a practicality point of view that the m4 does not. I use mine in ‘real life’ and its been faultless. Is the hatch on the gc better, yes but the boot on the coupe / m4 is hardly unusable. The mpg was tracked via an app using fill and miles and is accurate for my usage. Towing I’ll have to concede but mainly because I haven’t towed with either. Snow, the m4 on appropriate winter tyres is just fine to use, and my previous 435d on winter tyres was also just fine to use so I don’t really see your argument there, you could argue that 4wd on winters is better than rwd on winters and again I’ll concede. Insurance, the cost delta between them for me is £100 so again nothing show stopping. As I’ve said, the 435d was a fantastic car that I owned for 3 years, mapped at stage 1 was even better but it does not compete with an M4. That’s not putting the 35d down in any way. Too many ppl assume that a mapped ‘x’ becomes ‘Better’ or ‘faster’ that of a higher model, however it’s far from the case (i was guilty of thinking this too). I encourage you to go drive an M4, you may be pleasantly surprised.

@@gercobosch2870I have a stage 2 435D xDrive (AWD). People always ask me “why didn’t you just buy an M4?” at car meets and this video is the perfect explanation. I’m not even £30k deep into the car+mods and I smoke F8x M3/M4s… while still maintaining 50mpg on the highway and about 38mpg combined. My maintenance costs are ridiculously low because my diesel is the most reliable BMW I’ve ever owned. My first BMW was a 550i GT with the TT 4.4L V8 and my second was a 330e iPerformance with the 2.0T up front and electric motor in the rear. Buying the 435D was the best decision I ever made.

@@gercobosch2870 people tend to still underestimate diesels nowadays when in reality they’re no longer just eco or hard working engines… I got to have a go in a 2021 Audi S4 last year and honestly the bi-turbo 3L in that was absolutely insane and sounded nothing like what you’d expect from a Diesel. Sure it wasn’t tuned and I dare say the RS4 would beat it, but I don’t think it would be all that drastic of a difference as one would expect. Think the only thing that would put me off that 430d is the amount of smoke that bellows out of it and how much that’ll cover the back end… too many boy racers around my neck of the woods causing problems, developed a bit of a dislike for the telltale Passats and the like with soot black rear ends

I have a 2016 stage 2 435D xDrive (AWD) I happily have 143k miles on. People always ask me “why didn’t you just buy an M4?” at car meets and this video is the perfect explanation. I’m not even £30k deep into the car+mods and I smoke F8x M3/M4s… while still maintaining 50mpg on the highway and about 38mpg combined. My maintenance costs are ridiculously low because my diesel is the most reliable BMW I’ve ever owned. My first BMW was a 2011 550i GT with the TT 4.4L V8 and my second was a 2017 330e iPerformance with the 2.0T up front and electric motor in the rear. Buying the 435D was the best decision I ever made. I still have the 2017 330e but honestly rarely ever drive it unless I’m buying big items or need passenger space. Edit: I bought the 435D with 120k miles already on it. It’s my daily now but wasn’t until I did the stage 2. The 2017 330e I’ve owned since 2018 was my daily and has 63k miles. I have no idea how the previous owner managed to put so many miles on the 435D. But that’s why the car was cheap :)

I have just turned my X5 e53 3.0d and it's transformed into an animal the 218 bhp is now 288 I've cat backed the exhaust and performance air filter the stage one remap with egr deleat the touque is now 580 acceleration and pull is rapid and I am now in love with this x5 it ticks so many box's

@@bigduphusaj162 These diesels have amazing reliability. They're known as one of BMW's best engines in that regard. Had my stage 1 f30 335D for 5yrs without any issue.

@@bigduphusaj162 No, sorry but you are wrong. A tuned diesel is a lot better in reability than a stock diesel. The 335d 2009-2011 for example stock have a lot of problems and tuned you can those problems go away. I have a VW mk6 Jetta TDI tuned with Darkside downpie and egr delete kit and it´s so much better than stock also a lot more reliable.

For people not understanding why the 1017nm torque did not gap the petrol . The petrol torque spread is very wide while the stated 1017nm of torque will only be present for a very short moment

Thats not really true though, its because torque does not matter for acceleration, only horsepower does.

Proud owner of a 2014 430d here! I’m amazed by how many of you are so shocked that these things fly off the line. The stock car (mine) has 560nM and 258hp. That’s 5.5 seconds 0-100kmh. We can all agree that’s pretty damn fast.

Obviously with 1000Nm I don't think you would get much more than 30-40 000kms from the motor without breaking something. But you could cruise around with 800-850Nm on a N57 pretty reliably to be honest. They are extremely strong engines.

I have a stage 2 BMW 435xi with a 6 speed and I absolutely love it. Had it for 4 and a half years now, been tuned for 3 years, and put about 100k miles on it since buying it. Not sure exactly how much power its making, but for a comparison I raced a Tesla Model 3 Performance and it was pretty neck and neck until about 100 mph and then I totally took off from the Tesla. And I think its still a gorgeous car, and better looking than the new 4 series by far

I had that exact engine in my previous car, a 430d red cabrio M pack (which was one of the nicest car I've had). My car was only with a stage I custom map and it had 321cv with almost 700 nm of torque (with an outstanding fuel economy). It was highway rocket. I've never had any problem with that car. In fact I would be missing it a lot but thanks to its replacement, a C63S, maybe not so much.

No they aren't, tune the thing properly rather than get it done by Darksides and the likes with their bolt ons. There are loads of tuners that will do you a smokeless tune even if the DPFs been gutted out.

I have a 120d coupe with a stage one remap so its now putting out a tad over 230bhp absolutely no issues with the engine gearbox or clutch does 0 to 60 in just under 6.5 seconds had a GPS indicated 148 mph and it was still pulling but I ran out of balls and still does around 50 mph when I'm not thrashing it on late night motorway runs
