Played this last weekend at Pinbrew. The tank is to be avoided at all costs, and yes, at some point the game froze up when the ball lock didn’t register. That was our second game on it and we decided to just walk away.

I’m glad you DO tell it like it is and while I am always about trying to focus on the positives, just at a point where it’s becoming the new normal for some of these companies to just rush and put a product out there with no quality control and act like that’s ok and just expect us to fix them. I expect that with used games but not $8k plus new in box machines. I know there will always be adjustments needing to be made, but not having to send parts, boards, cabinet decals, etc. and days\weeks of work. Would love to give my thoughts, but to your point in the threads, I feel like I’m in the minority so I just keep it to myself. Keep up the great content my friend.

You have to remember these games are made to make money so shots are designed to drain easily. These games were never meant to be in homes, they were meant to be put at a location to make money . Things have gotten out of control and the only reason we have the 3 tiers now is because of the home market. Remember back in the day there was only one just like (Highlander) (I had to) no pros, premium's and CE\LE just one model.

I think the majority of people have not enjoyed Galactic Tank Force. We shouldn't have to tip toe around about it. It's clunky and and without a licensed theme there's just nothing to draw you in. I think we would like more pinball manufacturers but if American Pinball is going to survive they need to hear what the market wants and values. Making a single pinball machine is hard as hell so I can't imagine what it would be like to even make 100 of them. With that said what's the point of bringing something to market that people fundamentally don't want. They came a long way from Houdini but this one is a set back. There's a simple formula already in place: make it flow, create a deep rule set, and brand it with a license that people are excited about.

Lots of love for it shown by pinheads I encountered on location while it was being play tested with many preferring it over FF.. However I don't think it helps its cause to come out at about the same time as FF, which is such a strong game and seems like it'll do amazing. The comparison trap could be brutal!

On different and more uplifting topic I watched SlapDrains video on ScoobyDoo and I must say it's changed my mind quite a bit. My opinion of the game after TPF was pretty low, but now that I understand the game better I do like it more. It can't fix everything because you know design. I'd definately put some time on one if I get a chance. That's my thought... 😅

They should be resolved when you get yours. Just needed to add some Loctite to the screw the holds the diverter in place. The other issue being thrown around are the spinners are coming loose (squeezed the bracket that holds the spinner and so far so good).

Cary is currently the most honest and least 'shilly' reviewer that I trust. No offense to certain other 'reviewers' who have a vested interest in promoting games they hope to sell, but it DOES compromise your objectivity. I hope Cary never accepts money for reviews from manufacturers. I'm certain as his credibility increases, the money they will offer to buy a favorable review will only increase. I thought of F-14 Tomcat when I saw this game. F14 is fun and it can serve as a palette cleanser in between playing more modern games. The game has to be fun and exiting to pull this off. I don't think they were thinking of this game as a palette cleanser. I do think that's what CGC is thinking with Pulp Fiction (would make a nice palette cleanser in a collection of modern games that are high in flow).

I agree with the sentiment that not agreeing doesn't make it good or bad. I'm not a fan of a lot of the newer games. As a homebrewer, I understand the complications of building, and it's a tough thing to do. I also get wanting to make money, and do a big reveal, but then it's got to be ready. It's got to be right. Keep doing you, and I'll listen whether I agree or not, because we are all different. Oh and yes pinside has become extremely toxic.

Your right you can’t ignore the lot of people that have had countless issues with this game or a stream to reveal a game that goes poorly. Your word would mean nothing to just praise the machine. Also was good to point out its not “your type” of machine. I played it at TPF and had countless issues myself. I wouldn’t buy it for those reasons, but it’s not my type either, as you said 0 flow to that game. Very much shoot and pray and ok let’s gain control again to do it again.

I haven’t played this yet but if almost everyone is saying it’s a disappointment. Well… it’s probably not good. I can’t say I m looking forward to trying it but i will try it eventually and draw my own conclusions. Great work Cary, as usual. Especially the satire stuff 🤣

Cary thank you for this. I feel like someone should have mentioned to Mr. Nordman that having a bash toy so large and so low in the middle of your game might not be the best idea. They must have been happy to have him doing something for them that anything passed with the design. I can only imagine the teams heads just wanting to explode working on this one knowing the layout just wasn't a good one. When you have a non pinhead who watched some gameplay tell me "that looks annoying and not fun at all" , there's an issue there. Currently you can find these everywhere and I don't think sales are good off the bat with so many AAA releases at the same price point or even cheaper. API if you read comments on these videos. Just admit the ongoing issues, recall …take a couple months, revise your layout, move that damn tank back a foot. Fix the code, fix the sound, fix the mechanics as every stream I watched there was an issue. You are a company, you want to make money, you're not going to make much with this thing as it stands now. The novelty of a machine that folds down into a tank has worn off and honestly this wouldn't even work on location in a line up unless you have two, no one cares. They just want a good flowing fun table. You have a decent backlog of tables still in production will help keep you floating but looking back on this design, it's just not good. Sorry for the long winded comment but myself like many others were looking forward to this one only to be let down. And THANK YOU AGAIN Mr. Hardy for addressing what we are all thinking. Someone needs to give API a good shake for releasing this as is and you just did a bit. :-)

I got some time on it at TPF and about 10 plays on it at What's Brewing San Antonio. I'm partial to American, loved Houdini and maybe just enjoy different. Two funny things happened, on location it kept letting me play on .25, operator came and tried to fix it for more accurate play testing, but I think it reverted back. Coding I'm sure. Also, at one point the ball went up the ramp and straight up disappeared. Still no idea where it went! Complete mystery. Tank is definitely a tough call, I'm really hoping some code improvements will add some ball save logic in addition to the bumper based on average ball times. Beside the gremlins, I really enjoyed playing it. Some of it may be my desire to get time on a game that'll be hard to find in the wild, but I wanted to play GTF far more than FF, even though I also thought FF looked and played rad. I enjoyed the modes in GTF and the silliness. Audio was turned way down, can't comment there.

Curious about the minor issues on your foo fighters, I was there picking my game up at the same time. Mine was missing 2 rubbers on the outlanes. I didn’t even notice until I got it home

Missing rubbers on those posts is common (and usually purposefully done). Lots of games don't have rubbers on those posts. As far as my issues - my diverter (that is held in place by a single phillips head screw) came loose at TPF and at my home. I applied Loctite to the screw and it's no longer an issue. The other was my upper playfield spinner came off. I re-installed and squeezed the bracket that holds it. So far so good.

Sometimes : Pinball = Religion. It shouldn't, but it does. So believers will be offended when you don't believe as they do. To each their own. I own an AP - Legends of Valhalla. I quite enjoy it. But I have had heard some very (subjective) "negative" opinions. S'ok. It's my game not yours. And I believe it got off to a very rough start as well.
