She actually auditioned for The Voice Philippines, her name is Kathryn Dela Cruz and she has been classically trained since 7 years old (you can easily find her blind auditions here on youtube). She did not get in but Lea Salonga sang with her and LOVED her, she even recommended Kathryn to play in one of the Miss Saigon shows. I am not sure what she is doing now but based on the caption on the show, she should not be a teacher or just an elf, she has such great potential. It's just sad if she stopped following her theatre dream. SHE IS LEA SALONGA APPROVED FOR GODS SAKE.

KC Dela Cruz, the Christmas Elf, is Filipino American but she competed on the Voice of the Philippines in November 2014, so that's probably how he knows. Lea Salonga was one of the judges. The guest celebrity panel member who doubted her ability, whom I really know nothing about, but looking at Wikipedia, she is a comedian, actress, and television host, and started her career as an improv and stand-up comedian and still tours as one, so she was really just doing schtick, probably taking a viewpoint encouraged by the producers ahead of time to diversify opinion--I don't know how that works on the show. I don't think you can say that other races look down on you, "especially those black women" based on that type of remark from a comic. But perhaps your remark is really an expression of you looking down on them, as the Aeta people are looked down on in the Philippines, and is reflected by the popularity of skin whitening products and clinics in the Philippines. I know there are many ordinary Filipinos, or aspiring Filipino singers, who sing very well. But actually, in the United States there are many also and you find them in churches and other places, they just don't necessarily have the ambition to be professional, but they may be better than most of the professionals, except professionals like Kelly Clarkson, Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Linda Eder, LeAnn Rimes, etc. But there are new ones coming up all the time. In the current season of Tawag ng Tanghalan, Quarter Finalist Lyka Estrella has a big range and does a lot of runs, if not always completely controlled yet, whereas fellow Quarter Finalist Jesselli Balasabas has a lower, fuller voice, and they both sing with a lot of passion. Jona Viray and Morissette Amon are my favorite singers.
