Test cutting with the CAS Hanwei Raptor Series (designed by James Williams) Unokubi Zukuri blade style. Also wearing the CAS Hanwei Raptor Wakizashi as a daisho in this video, However I did not cut with it during this session. I have cut with it on previous occasions and it is extremely sharp and durable. The raptor series blades are made with 5160 spring steel, very durable but can retain a very nice cutting edge. Blade is very light in the hands and very quick. It cut extremely well with very little effort. Point of balance is very nice with the 13 inch long tsuka matched with Unokubi Zukuri style blade. James Williams has done a very nice job designing and demonstrating these blades.
Cutting 4 inch diameter rolled tatami omote by Mugen Dachi soaked for 24 hours. The mats from Mugen Dachi are very good quality and very clean, no residue or grit within the material. You can order in bulk from their website and roll it yourself, there’s plenty of websites and videos that show you how to roll it properly and soak it.
