It should be obvious from the start that the prairie locomotive would lose just for the simple fact that it is a direct drive machine going up against a viscous drive machine ( uses a torque converter for power transfer to the drivetrain ), all that needed to happen was for the direct drive machine to stall out, which it did several times. It didn’t appear to me that the Cat was even trying to pull against the Case. I think that they just let it pull the Cat backwards which is still a lot because of its weight. No tracks digging in and showing any slippage and not sound of a diesel raving and pulling and no significant diesel exhaust under load gives it away. No doubt they didn’t want to tear anything up. I’m surprised that they used a relatively small and long cable. I f it had snapped it could possibly have taken out a considerable portion of the closely gathered crowd.
