Case 580SK, Will it run/drive

Borrowing the Mack from work to go pick up my latest acquisition, including all the fun we had to load it, unload it and then a quick assessment of what went wrong with it. The fun never ends!!

Those Mack trans always shifted different compared to a roadranger. That's a good buy if nothing else than parts alone.. that Cummins sounds healthy. I thought I was good as a one man show, If I had tried to unload something like that alone it would have ended up on its roof.

Id keep that machine and sell your other backhoe if it was me. One thing to note when pull towing these super K's, is you cant pull them over like 3-5mph without damage to the transaxle. I forget the exact details, but something to keep in mind. IDK how far you guys pulled that thing and at what speed. Let me know if you need a service manual for a super k. I should be able to email you mine its only 95,000 kilobites.

Hi Tyler, I think I would get more money for the Super K than the E, and also, the E is 4wd, so more useful for me. Another thing, the Super K is a lot less work to get it to a 'saleable' condition. Almost all the pin's & bush's are worn out on the E. For the 8 to 10 hours per year that I'm going to run it, I can live with that. I believe the reason for limiting the towing speed / distance is that, without the engine running, there is no lubrication being pumped through the clutch and brake packs. They could quickly overheat / wear out. Tow speed was a brisk walk, distance was about a hundred yards. Thanks for the offer of the service manual, but I've just purchased the complete manual on CD. But, thank you anyway!!

When you said, I’m not quite sure how I’m going to do that, I thought of how many times I’ve been in that situation. So you do the obvious and just jump in and figure it out as you go and it always seems to work out.👍

I counted 14 cylinders. 9 are currently leaking. I think I should do them all. Just to be sure. Probably just as many hoses, too!!
