Case-Hardened Walther PP w/ Brown Grip | Extended Barrel Verchromt Swiss PP | WW2 Walther Pistols

In this video, Tom gives us three guns for the price of one! We got a very early, VERY RARE variation Walther PP in its original box. What makes this gun incredible is the spots of case-hardening near the tang, in the ejection port, and on the muzzle. It is still completely in tact! This gun is gorgeous in general - the high polish bluing is close to 100% - it might as well be new-in-box!
The second gun is a rare extended barrel pp that was ordered by the Swiss Target Shooters Association. It was a special order from Walther by a Swiss retailer. It has a satin nickel "verchromt" finish.
The third gun is another example of a verchromt pp. This one has rare brown grip panels.
Tom also talks about a gun we sold last year. It was an engraved PPK with wooden grips with the words "Stahl and Berger" on the slide. This was another special order during that time sold in retail stores.

@@thomaswhiteman4261 well since I'am from Czech Republic I can say that we have CZs really cheap here averge price for standart CZ 27 is around 1500 to 2000 krowns which is roughly 80 - 90 $ one Day i bought mint cz 27 with 2 mags and holster both from 1946 for 1500 Kč - around 65 dollars so i cant complain. But they can go up to 400 for SA marked for the finnish army

Truly awesome pistol. Just that little aluminum box with the factory stamped onto the lid would be wonderful to have. I'm very pleased to own a nice, but rather common, German PPK/s. The way prices have been going, I'm unlikely to get another!

The long slide version looks suberb. Has any one seen a ppk frame with pp barrel and slide? It is harder to conceal the butt than the slide.

I'm a blacksmith that makes custom muzzleloaders, flintlock or percussion. I've color case hardened some pieces to protect from wear and for pretty. This experience gives me the feeling that the color case hardening is done at the factory and without having the piece in hand I can't for the life of me figure out how they color the back end. Is that piece removable? Color case hardening is a tricky to do it right. Walther did it superb.

I appreciate your perspective as a blacksmith. Yes, the slide will come off to make it a bit easier to do the case hardening. But still, I have never seen anything so precise. Someone spent a lot of time on this Walther.

Thats a másterpiece in the same part blued and color case harden.. I will risk a conclusión of how it could be made.. First it was color cased compleately (the slide) then a rosin or a hard wax was appied to the color case in the muzzle and back of the slide. Then the edges would have to be perfectly detail shape and cut to then proceed to aply the blueing process too the rest of the slide. Finaly the rosin/wax would be removed and Finaly polished up... Lots of work in prep Másterpiece.

I believe as the heat travels through the metal, they can somewhat control it. Control being the key word.

Case hardening is a heat and chemical process, the " bluing " isn't heat bluing its a chemical process in a hot chemical bath. The colour case harden will be done first then the areas for bluing polished off and the case hardened areas masked off then it will be blued chemically.

@@ConjointVR Thank you for that sir, I was once a member of a gun club in the UK, many moons ago, I saw the heartbreak of gun enthusiasts handing their cherished collectable pistols to the police to be destroyed, made a decision then not to shoot any more, all we had left was .22 pistols and it just spoiled the whole experience for me. My passion was shooting all types of handguns then carefully cleaning them whilst chatting to other people who shared my love of this hobby, our overlords took away our rights almost overnight, now, the only people who own handguns above .22 are criminals and the police. So you can see, our interests differ slightly, to me, a deact. is a bit like owning a stuffed animal instead of a live one, but thank you.
