Those headaches are brutal! I feel so bad for that Mom. She can’t enjoy her new baby. Thank heavens it was short lived. 😊👍👍

I had a spinal headache after a back surgery left the tiniest hole that leaked spinal fluid. I’ve had numerous surgeries, kidney stones and labor pains. Nothing even compared to a spinal headache. It was like a crushing pain in my head. I went home after outpatient surgery and about 3-4 after going home I cough very hard. I developed a headache-thought nothing of it at first. As the evening and night went on I noticed that laying down was the only comfortable position I could find. Moving at all created unbelievable pain and nausea. My surgeon didn’t believe it could be a leak. He swore nothing was leaking when they closed me up. I went 2 weeks with this. When I went for my post op I had gotten to the point that even laying down made me sick. If I moved my head at all I would vomit. He finally ordered an MRI and it showed a massive leak. What could have been an easy fix with a blood patch ended with another surgery opening up my back to repair the leak. I don’t wish that pain on ANYONE.

I wish my doctors would have taken me seriously and done something like that. My headache lasted the entire time I was in the hospital plus a week after being out. To this day I still occasionally get them as well as excruciating pain in my spine where they stab me. Currently pregnant with baby number three and thank God my new doctor is willing to put me under instead of going to the spinal route again. With my first I had to have an emergency C-section so is my second we decided to do a routine C-section and was never warned of any of the side effects that could come with it. When I told my nurse what I was going through she said it was normal and nothing could be done for it.

I have had several surgeries for my knees and hip. I had epidural and spinal. My last a hip replacement I had a spinal. That time I had a feeling of electricity going down my left leg. I am not a headache person and I never have had headache. They did have trouble with access because the electricity feeling made my leg jump. They kept telling me to stay still and I kept telling them it wA not under my control. I am fortunate it didn't cause complications.

My spinal injury caused me to develop narcolepsy, so I know the spine can affect the brain 😅 Wish I could find any scientific literature on my condition.

I’m really glad to hear about conservative treatments! I’ve had doctors want to do surgery as their first impulse and it really scared me! 2nd (and 3rd) opinions found significantly conservative treatments that got me faster than recovery from surgery would’ve been!

Is this more common in pregnant women because that population is more likely to get a spinal injection/epidural? Or rather because of a different reason unique to the physiology of a pregnant body?

In 2007, my second delivery, the anesthesiologist punctured the spinal fluid. I was numb for a couple of hours. Once I could feel, I deliver my baby. The doctors had me in a catheter for the night and in the morning the anesthesiologist came to ask if I had a headache. I didn't have one. The nurse removed the catheter. After a few minutes I used the bathroom and stretched and my head stared to hurt. I thought I was sleep deprived so I took a nap. My husband comes back for us to take us home. I have a really bad headache now and can't even open my eyes because of the light, I complain to the doctors and nurses, they brushed off my concerns saying it's side effect. After an excruciating trip home, my husband googles my symptoms and calls the hospital to speak with the anesthesiologist. My brother gets to my house and drives me back to the hospital where I get the blood patch. One week later I developed tinnitus, it's been over 15 years and still have tinnitus. I also developed fibromyalgia. I always wonder if they are related.
