hi. thanks for the video. i think it would have been helpful having videos explaining everything about OpenLCA (results interpretation etc. Even today us beginners we still find it difficult to understand the software beyond this video.

With different electricity mixes in different countries, the environmental effect of the electric power usage could be interesting even in the comparative study, I would assume. But the main purpose of this video is teaching openLCA - and it is very helpful for learning. Thank You! Would love to see more Tutorials

Thank you! Two questions, if I may: (1) the "create system process" connected only to system datasets, correct? And this was because this is the only type of dataset in the database you used? I ask because the "connect to system processes if possible" option in my database with both unit and system processes links by default to unit processes. (2) When you chose the "tap water" dataset @12:10, there were many options with exactly the same name. These refer to different tap water production technologies, but it seems that this information is not available. Had you wanted to chose a specific technology (rather than just the first on the list) how would you have identified the correct flow?

Hi there, Starting from 5:47, you mentioned the the two different modelling options. I am more interested in the breaking down the production chain into different processes and connecting them with one another. Can you please advise where I can find a video detailing this? I look foward to your response. Thank you

@@openLCA The video that you have mentioned is not an exercise like you did it over here. In that referred videos things got complex quickly. Many instances, i think, the video is not suitable for the beginners compared to the way that you have done it over here. I also think that there should be some dedicated videos from OpenLCA around End-of-life scenarios (i.e., waste management ) as Ecoinvent included many of the waste processing data in their latest database. Also it is required as circular economy and waste management has become a critical aspects around the world. I did not find any dedicated waste management modeling using OpenLCA anywhere on KZbin. Furthermore, None of the questions on ask.openLCA have ever been answered completely. I would highly recommend that you create a tutorial session on complete Waste LCA. Your kind cooperation is highly appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

For USDA database, I created a PROCESSTRY1 with some inputs and outputs. Then I created a PRODUCTSYSTEM1 for this process. The model graph does not show any links (arrows) as shown at 14:22. I see only one box with the word PROCESSTRY1. What would be the reason? Thanks.
@openLCA
@openLCA 9 жыл бұрын
+Subbu Kumarappan The USDA database connects to the ecoinvent v2.2 database, so you would need that database too for the background data. If you already have it, have you checked "Add connected processes" when creating the product system? Otherwise you could try the ELCD database for a more comprehensive start with openLCA!

Hi there, I was following the tutorial step by step, apart from the parameter step when I just added the real numbers into inputs. But then in the end I do not see my inputs in the model graph, when I created a product system only the outputs (water bottle). I tried different settings options when creating the product system, such as "provider linking" or "preferred process type" but nothing helped. Do you have an idea where the problem might be? Thanks in advance. Lucia

The example given is based on the ELCD database 3.2 which is available free of charge on the Nexus web repository. To quantify the environmental impacts of the system modelled, the Impact assessment methods must be imported in openLCA. The LCIA methods openLCA LCIA methods v2.0.4 are available on the nexus as well

I did this type of analysis, but when it comes to changing the number of bottles when I changed them to 1000, still the results were same? it should be different for a different number of bottles, right?
@openLCA
@openLCA Жыл бұрын
Indeed, as you change the number of bottles the analysis should be different. We suggest to always save and refresh after applying any changes. The 1000 bottles should be specified at a product system level, before calculation.

Just that you create different processes that you then combine to a product system.

hello, in my study I want to calculate the impact of transportation for one KM to use it later in my mathematical model how can I do that? should I only creat a flow for transport and a process where the input is only the transportation mode? thank you
@openLCA
@openLCA 8 жыл бұрын
+Hajar deqqaq If you are using e.g. the free ELCD database you could simply calculate the impacts for one of the (system) transportation processes. You would, however, need to specify the funcional unit in t*km (as the emissions depend also on the transported weight).

Shouldn't the weight (1 Kg) of a filled water bottle be equal to the sum of the weights of all inputs (1+0.06+0.04+0.001) Kg?
@openLCA
@openLCA 9 жыл бұрын
student china Please consider the different units of the inputs in the production process - they are not all "kg", but also transportation (kg*km) is an input to the process. Or am I getting you wrong?
@mustafaali6949
@mustafaali6949 9 жыл бұрын
I meant that 1 Kg output should be equal to 1Kg input unless there is some waste. Isn't transportation a different category altogether? I'm a beginner so maybe I'm missing something here.
@openLCA
@openLCA 9 жыл бұрын
student china The mass balance has to be correct, you are right. The sum of all inputs that you mentioned is 1.065 kg which is also just the weight of the filled bottle (see Minute 12:44). The reference flow was 1 initially which stands for one bottle (unit) but not 1kg, if this is what confused you.Hope this helps.

openLCA It would be great if you could kindly suggest how to link different processes. I'm trying to model waste disposal scenarios and I don't really know how to connect different nodes(for instance ash treatment after incineration). Similarly it would be great if you could suggest how to model all the processes in one project rather than using different projects for each process (e.g. landfill vs incineration)
