That Smiths Air Ministry with the cream dial is absolutely stunning for a military watch.

Chris, Yes, I agree. And, heat blued hands in that price range is unheard of. Of course, it has no lume whatsoever. This seems to be standard for air ministry watches, which makes me scratch my head.

First Name Last Name The Omega 6B/159 that the Smiths is based on was intended for bomber navigators rather than pilots. Presumably they used light at their chart tables and needed precise readouts, and didn’t think lume was worth it at the time. Those watches were then re-dialled, recased and had lume applied in the 50’s.

Great segment! Varied selection from 'straight up' to modern reinterpretation of the military watch. Glad to see Glycine, CWC and Tutima all included for both historical and real time military watches. Thank you, Tim, for this excellent presentation and your commentary, which shows your good taste.

One thing I like most about many traditional military watches is the legibility at night, their lume layout is always easy to read. It's also the feature that I like the most when wearing my Smiths. The CWC diver has a beautiful lume design too.

In 1968 I was issued a green 36 or 38 mm green plastic watch. It was ment to be worn thrown away. Funny thing on the back was a warning about the lume being hazardous to your health. Also there was a small compass. However you could buy watches at PX Rolex...ect

I would be interested in pretty much anything from Time Factors. I became interested in watches around 2002, and they'd had a loyal following even then through the internet-- and they were nearly as impossible to get back then as they are now.

Stumbled on this on watch channel and absolutely love it. Nothing pretentious.. good sense of humour and incredibly informative with a good balance of history thrown in. Commenting on the back of a vintage military watch video and not relevant, but hoping Tim can do a topic around Glashutte.. the region and why it came to be the pre-eminent location for watch quality in Germany. Maybe a bit about the watch makers in that area too.. I personally love Nomos. Amazing contemporary, clean, sharp and gorgeous watches. Excellent job Tim. Love it.

I recently purchased four Glycine Airman watches. One GMT and three Purists (24 hour hand, no 12 hour hand). There is such a large variety of styles and sizes, one was not enough. I was able to buy mine on eBay for about $400 - $500 new. I do not know the reason for the price drop, but I was able to get the vintage and contemporary versions I wanted. Not that I really need a reason/excuse for buying a watch, but I was born the same year as the Airman (and the Chevrolet Corvette).

I personally went for a VERTEX M100 as I loved the background story, and to be honest when I opened the gorgeous small Pelicase presentation box I was blown away by the superb finish, sublime detailing and look of a remake of one of the 'Dirty Dozen'. Not cheap, but a treasured watch.

Can’t believe I just found this, such a breath of fresh air compared to almost everything watch-related. On Glycine - they have two versions, purist (24 hour) and gmt (one shown in the video) with cream and black dials. They’ve got not as much of a military but rather civil aviation heritage. I sold my 36mm gmt a week ago cause it was mostly just sitting in a box. You can find them on eBay for 700-800 used and if you like the aesthetics go for it. It’s an absolute delight.

Not a big Orient fan but they have military style watches (watch code: RA-AC0H). Price ranges from $260-$285. They look nice. To big for my wrist though. Case:42.2 mm and Lug to Lug:49.5 mm. Just throwing this out there. My personal favorite is the Hamilton Khaki Field 38 mm Automatic. I own this one and a very nice watch. Even better that it was on sale for bout $150.00 off during a Christmas sale. I also own the Stowa Flieger Classic 36 Automatic, great watch. Great channel by the way. Keep them coming Tim.

Hi Tim. I somehow missed this post, so I am very late to comment. Another great video and further evidence that you are one of the best watch channels on YT. Light hearted yet informative, and the right balance between thoroughness and brevity. If the term 'sprezzatura' can be applied to a YT watch review channel, your channel has it. The Glycine was a fascinating piece of design. The outer edge of the dial + the bezel markings create a very busy look at 1st glance yet the clarity and legibility is superb. Great design. The CBC? Just gorgeous, a brand which has been on my radar for a while now, as has the re-born Smiths brand. As an Australian, that British and Commonwealth military 'broad arrow' is something that I have longed for on a watch I can own. Time Factors appear to be doing very well., + I learned the genesis of the Seagull 1963 design! One of the favoured pieces in my watch box!...and finally the 'little snippet of 'detective' jazz as you introduced the Zenith! Nice! Another great video. Thank-you. I don't know what you have in store for us, but a video or 2 in this format about the vintage re-issues of Soviet era watches would be fantastic I think. Some interesting movements were housed in those old Sturmanskie and Poljot pieces for aviators and cosmonauts, and the same can be said for the MOD Vostok's. The Raketa World Timer and UFO / Puck watch also merit a mention I believe. Cheers Tim and good health!

Superb content: tasteful yet fun and as always an appropriate level of detail. Excellent. I have a Hamilton Khaki King, and have just got another Stowa, this time the hand wound, no date 40mm Baumuster B. I really like that Glycine airman, to have retained its original essence through the years only adds to its integrity. Waffle aside I love the dimensions and look of that Smiths watch; it would be great to see a review of both of those dials. As a fan of Stowa, this looks so appealing.

I am definitely considering the Smiths or the Laco as my next watch possibly instead of the Seagull 1963. Would love to see a review of the Smiths. There is a story that Sir Edmund Hillary wore the Smiths and kept his rolex in his bag possibly a marketing story but he did apparenty own a smiths and the Edmund Hillary pattern Smiths is definitely a thing. Perhaps you could verify it during the Smiths review. One thing I hope will happen in this series or some future review is the Westend Watch co being featured. Hoping to see that happen soon. One thing you maybe be interested in is lookong at the Omega Seamaster Railmaster a second time in this context. These watches were bought by the Argentinian and Pakistani airforces in the 1950s-1960s and issued to pilots. Based on the time frame they would have been worn by PAF pilots in conflicts with India the air wars of which involved several very iconic cold war jets like the F86 sabre, F104 Starfughter, Hawker Hunter and Mig 21 etc so looking into it may help scratch your cold war itch.

Shaharyar Sheikh - Re. the 1st Everest summit, I can relay what I know. Tenzing Norgay was definitely wearing a Rolex Explorer when they summited. Sir Edmund Hilary reportedly wore an Explorer on one wrist and a Smiths small seconds piece on the other. Many watch companies were keen to get their product into the hands of the climbers, for obvious reasons. Hilary did become a brand ambassador of sorts for Smiths after the climb, by allowing the brand to quote him saying 'I wore a Smiths on Everest and it performed perfectly ' (or words to that effect) in their advertising. I believe that you can see copies of the original ads on the Time Factors site. Obviously the Smiths Everest PRS25 is an homage to the Rolex Explorer ref. 1016 and not a re-issue of the Smiths watch Edmund Hilary wore. I read about this a while ago, and I have written this from memory only. So feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong. Stay safe.

Great video. I like the theory about the Zenith you had. Would love to see a review of the new 'Smiths'. These Timefactors watches (good though they are) should not be confused with the original S. Smith and Sons brand which made watches like the Everest and the Imperial as well as clocks and instruments for cars and aircraft. That company evolved into Smith Group plc which now makes sensors and medical equipment but as far as I know hasn't made wrist watches for decades. The Timefactors watches are homages to those bygone pieces. Still great, timeless and clean designs with modern specs.

tim, i am attracted by military watches with knurled bezel, my favourite been the longines heritage 1935 majetek or czech air force, even if it might be too big for my taste.Hanhart also, but I would love to find this type of watch in 38mm!! And yes please I would LOVE it if you could review the Smiths prs 29 !!! I own a smiths everest 36mm and it is an amazing watch ! I follow you since a long time and I am always happy to watch your next video. thank you.👍 i
