You should look up The Milgram Experiments. It is wild the sort of shit people will do just because someone in a position of authority told them to do it, the subjects actually believed they were killing people as part of the experiment and they just didn't care. Clara got mind fucked by her sister in a crazy web of false identities and supposed experts, it's scary but the truth is a lot of people would have just gone along with the expert advice, we're humans, it's what we do.

Thanks for covering this case, it is probably THE case if you want to talk about true crime in Czech Republic. I remember it unfolding and the case being all over the news - I was a kid at that time so I wasn't really interested in it back then but it was impossible not to know about it because of how much attention (and rightfully so) the case got. It was insane.

I think a lot of this seem unexplained. If it were just the aunt and the imposter then it somewhat makes sense, but who were the other guys? What was the motivation of the other guys that came in and joined in? It just seems like they got called in, did this extremely strange and cruel thing, and then they got caught and imprisoned. It seems like there's this whole other thing at play here that just got brushed over in this podcast. Who were they obeying? What did they say they were doing during the court case? Is this an existing abuse ring? What were their histories and their relationship with everyone else? Were they intellectually impaired? What is going here? You dont just randomly find multiple people who are willing to do this just on call.

I’m wondering if the mother really wanted daughters; and that’s why she was so quick to abuse and dump her boys but lavish on the “girl”. Also, everyone seems like members of some cult or extreme religion. This type of stuff seems to happen in cults. Otherwise I’m scratching my head too!

Omg what an extremely disturbing case. Evil exists anywhere but for a parent to do unspeakable horrors to their own children I would have given them all involved life sentences never to be released. And I thought I was listening to a story that happened over 100 years ago when I realised I was wrong it happened in the 21st century. Because of the unusual names I was trying very hard to keep up with the changing story of who did what and who was who. Those poor little darling boys abused by their own crazy mother. I don't think she should be allowed to have any contact with her boys. No excuses she was insane and belongs in a mental health institution for life. I would never trust a woman like her ever. She was pure evil with a warped and disturbed mind. I wonder what happened to her when she was a young child. I sincerely hope that the boys are constantly monitored so they don't do any harm to their children. Again well done team Case file. May I say a difficult case to put together. Hello from Perth Western Australia 😘

@@mollygibson4402Yes it does. I's an infantalized version of Anna, many families speaking slavic languages use such versions for "little Anna", like Anoushka, Aniusia, Anetshka etc. Calling a 30-sth a baby version of their name is disturbing indeed. Looks like the girl was never allowed to individuate and grow up, live sepatetly as a psychological being. What's even more disturbing is that her real name was Barbora, like someone invented her anew with a todler's identity.

I kept wondering why the boys didn't go to live with their father. He didn't seem to be a part of their life until they were rescued and then disappeared again soon after. Well the Czech wiki helped solve that easily. Apparently they were given into his custody at first but they were transferred to their maternal grandmother soon after and he went to prison for misappropriating funds meant for them. The boys mother was manipulated by her sister into torturing them and their father stole their money the first moment he had access to it. I hope they have all the help they need. Same for their mother.

It makes no sense that a mother would harm her own sons to " save " a child she hoped to adopt. While it is inexcusable for her to abuse the adopted child, that would be more believable. She must have been controlled mentally.

@@c.w.8200 I am a mother myself and I am not saying mothers are Saints. But this just doesnt make sense to me. Most Mothers would not do this.
