Thank you so much Foul Territory for ALL of your A’s coverage!! A legion of A’s fans thanks you! We want our baseball team back!! But, for now we have your amazing coverage. Please keep shining the light on this travesty for baseball!! Sell the team and tell Manfredi to take a hike. It’s such bad look for such an amazing sport.

I'm a Giants fan and watching what is happening with the A's debacle makes me feel bad for A's fans. John Fisher is a mess and hopefully one day he doesn't own a baseball team that he can run into the ground. The team needs to stay in Oakland and they need a new owner.

Imagine if MLB could fix this and the A's get their waterfront ballpark across the Bay from the Giants which would preserve the Bay Bridge Series, expand to Vegas and watch the rivalry between the OAKLAND A's and the Las Vegas newly expanded team flourish.That would be a GREAT solution for baseball!

It's pretty obvious what's going on. Fisher has been putting up a smokescreen over the last few weeks. Making it seem like he had options in cities like SLC. Even floating the ridiculous idea that the A's would shut down for 3 seasons. Oakland should put their foot on Fisher's neck. Make him give up the name, colors, and history. Otherwise, he can kick rocks.

Ask for the name and colors and a legit bid for expansion. I don't see why Oakland would budge one inch. If Fisher owns half of the Coliseum site and can stop any development on the site then it also means the city can keep him from doing anything with the site as well. The city should hold firm and lease the stadium to other teams, hold events, and make money that way until Fisher decides to move on from a useless piece of property that he'll never get to develop. Without the TV deal, he's losing $200 million over 3 seasons. In addition, any AAA park the team would be forced to play in would require major renovations. Who pays for that, Fisher? He's already having trouble financing a Vegas ballpark. It seems to me that adding these costs plus lack of income would be the best road to new ownership.

7:45 after thinking long and hard about this I actually agree with casey. My only change would be oakland lets fisher and the A's stay but they have to leave name and color in oakland or..... some other city in nor cal. With this San jose or santa clara or sacramento can make bids and keep the A's in nor cal.

There's still so much that needs to get done, lol. For instance, the vacant lot just east of the MGM was the *original spot for the Raiders new stadium, and the FAA told them to go to hell (that spot IS worse for the N/S runway than this one for sure) and could do the same here, when a REAL rendering is actually out. Plus the locals will not show up there regularly, it's a real pain the ass to get to, especially on Fri/Sat PM's.

As I commented on Casey's channel, TV revenue a big factor, but options do exist in Salt Lake City. MLB has taken over broadcasts for Padres and D-Backs and could do same for the A's. Due diligence exploring options comparing Oakland rent and TV income with same in Salt Lake. The result of discussion in Oakland might guide MLB to determine tv revenue options for the team in Salt Lake and even influence negotiations with Salt Lake, very anxious for the A's on a temporary basis. The journalist who said 50/50 is not involved with any inside information. They have financing - Fisher said mostly from family and Forbes said he and family have the money. An expansion team and keeping the name in Oakland is a total non-starter.

It's a large media market. Oakland is one part of the East Bay. It's easy to imagine a stadium that draws equally from the east bay and the south bay / San Jose area. MLB would be foolish to simply abandon it. It's probably more viable than SLC.

@@JayO-wx3ejThey swear it's not 8 million people in the Bay Area. And Oakland's population is always listed around 400k but nobody mentions the surrounding Alameda County with over 2 million+, much less the peninsula and North and South Bay Populations.

@@thomasmckennie8771 The way advertisers think about it, aside from ratings, is the DMA or Designated Marketing Area and they think of it as SFO/OAK/SJC and that encompasses the counties of :Alameda, Contra Costa, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Sonoma. It's big, and much larger than Las Vegas. I think the observations that the Giants are more popular than the A's is valid. Their run of Championship success has made the team popular across Northern and Central California where the fandom from San Luis Obispo north to the Oregon border is full of Giants fans and then Central Valley from Fresno north is Giants country. That's a lot of territory that, while not densley populated is still considerable. My perception is that the A's fans are mostly concentrated in the Bay Area market.... still #6 and fully viable. SFG should be operating as a top 10 franchise in terms of financial muscle. It's realistic to think the Oakland A's in a new park could be a solid mid market team with resources similar to the Angels and Rangers.

Oakland’s proper population is about over 400k. Vegas , excluding year round visitor’s …over 650k . Who wants to come to Oakland , outside from Oakland , a port town , to watch a ballgame ? No one . Maybe, a big maybe , rabid Seattle and Anaheim fans. Dallas fans won’t come. A five hour plan each way to see a Ball game with a team that does not draw ? Who is kidding who ? Who will drop by the Ball Park in Vegas to watch a ball game? Probably a whole lot more than in Oakland. That is the math. California used to be the end of a golden trail. Not anymore. Casino owners want the A’s because it gives them one more reason for people to come to Las Vegas. People who otherwise might come to gamble on a whim. Oakland has nothing more to offer to the A’s outside a rabid fan base. Who can’t fill their ballpark , so much so half is covered by tarp. The funny part of it all, I am not even an US resident anymore , never lived either in Vegas nor California , and can see the obvious.
@thomasmckennie8771
@thomasmckennie8771 5 ай бұрын
Well captain obvious, then you'd know that Oakland is in the BAY AREA, the 4th-6th largest media market in the nation. Oakland is part of a major metropolitan region whereas Las Vegas is an island city in the desert in the 40th largest TV market. This is why the A's have a lucrative local TV deal worth over $70 million a year (one of the upper echelon franchises), and now that NBC Sports Bay Area is threatening to stop payments once they leave a 70 mile radius of the OAKLAND COLISEUM (breach of contract), the A's are crawling back to Oakland for negotiations because that $280 million was needed for the move to Vegas. But Fischer forgot about that. Like how sometimes he can't tell his ass from his brains.

@@thomasmckennie8771 4th to 6th media market and can’t fill the ballpark. Even before relocation was in the cards. How long do you think advertisers are going to pay rates commensurate with “the 4th to 6th “ media market when there is no one at the ballpark ? Boston manages to bring in considerable public ( with visible gaps lately ) , owns their cable tv channel, and yet TV advertising revenues are way down, since past COVID. You can’t fill the ballpark, the cable programmer can’t justify asking advertising rates, contract is up, the A’s will get lowballed on a new contract. If you do not own the cable station , you do not know the viewership numbers.

@@thomasmckennie8771 Bay Area media market is #10. Was #6 a few years ago prior to population drain. Most fans in the Bay Area are Giants fans. As someone pointed out, if the media market were the East Bay counties, they would be #36.
@JayO-wx3ej
@JayO-wx3ej 5 ай бұрын
@@serafinacosta7118 I'm with @thomasmckennie8771 on this one. SFO/OAK/SJC media market is 2.49MM homes, good for #6 in the country. As @Rob-L points out the Giants are more popular on the whole but the market is large enough to support two major league franchises and many fans support both teams in terms of attending games or by watching/listening to both. You can't sugar coat the attendance problems in Oakland. I attribute it to the stadium itself which is moribund and I think there is a consensus that it needs to be updated or a stadium needs to be built. The Coliseum as it is now is untenable. But, the that location and that park has a recent history of drawing well over 1.5M fans per year. In a new home in the East Bay it's easy to see the team doing over 2M fans a year as they have in the recent past. 2M per year would put the team squarely in the middle third of annual attendance. It's completely viable. The initial stadium capacity estimates for Las Vegas were at 30K and so if you sold that out for 81 games you get to 2.43M which would put the Las Vegas A's ahead of CIN (2.04M*) and behind SFG (2.5M*). There's no doubt that the Bay Area is challenging but I think you underestimate the challenges and sustainability of Las Vegas for an 81 game home schedule. *2023 attendance figures per ESPN.

People act like moves like this happen overnight. No. Discussions with the city happen well in advance of even floating the idea of a move. If the city really wanted the A's to stay, they'd pay them to stay. Trying to shame them to stay is the cheaper strategy, sure, but it won't be an effective one. The city's trying to pawn off the blame, but the city fucked up here.
