If you're only in edit page vs cut page you're better off no using davinci resolve
@PassionForLifeGallery3 жыл бұрын
I started using Davinci in Feb of this year. I'm 56 now and I had only used a couple other editors a few times. I new nothing about Resolve except that it was free. Man what a learning curve! I now can use all the pages, and I do use them all, including fusion. I have even made some macros. So thanks to this channel and others like it for putting this info out there. And never think that your video is too simple or that some explanation is too obvious. When you are starting out nothing is simple and nothing is obvious. And to those who are just getting into Resolve, hang in there, it gets easier!
@lukerabin50793 жыл бұрын
I’m getting a sense that BMD intended the cut page to be the sort of way a news editor, someone who’s cutting a story from a video package rather than a more traditional creative style of cutting. Sometimes if you’re stuck, just getting a quick assembly is a way to get unstuck. You’re a great teacher, Casey. Great work.
@theartoframos Жыл бұрын
The VERY Funny thing is that I thought I was the ONLY one to just stick with the edit module and the reasons why you friggen NAILED, I'm like damn dude this guy is reading my mind, that was kinda the 1st thing to make me go "damn I do, do that. maybe I should learn more like i wanted to long ago."

Thanks! Yes, a more thorough tutorial on the "Settings" would be much appreciated. I always look forward to your videos; you've taught me a great deal about DaVinci Resolve which has been very useful.
@jasonzdora3 жыл бұрын
A "settings for non-professionals" would be great. Like, explain the inside-baseball terms in plain language. Stuff like "proxy" is a whole other language to DIY learners.
@jasonzdora3 жыл бұрын
@@vladtainapopa3417 I never thought of that. Youre a genius, Vlad. Im pretty sure this channel makes instructional videos for beginners. They dont make videos that say, "google it". They asked if we wanted a video about the settings menu. I framed it in a way that made sense for my level of understanding.
@lukerabin50793 жыл бұрын
In fairness, you guys get free access to an incredible tool set. Whether you like it or not, just as with any trade or specific profession, you have to learn some things to make it work. If you don’t want to do that, you might as well use something like iMovie. If you’re serious about making quality content, take a little time and learn how video actually works, tech stuff and all.
@jasonzdora3 жыл бұрын
@@lukerabin5079 I totally agree but for many of us, this is a side thing that were learning and practicing with as much as possible already. There is a capacity to the "me time" in a day and a capacity to the amount of research that can be done without hitting diminishing returns. When someone makes content aimed at people like me, I give them feedback that makes sense for me. A video from Casey would take 10 to 20 minutes and would give me all of that information with time to spare for me to experiment with the parameters in order to solidify the concepts that interested me. It would also give me a reference I could come back to, as many of their videos have been for times when I forget specifics about workflow. Thats the whole point of this channel: to deconstruct the complexity of Resolve and make it accessible to the plebs that should be using iMovie instead, according to you.
@lukerabin50793 жыл бұрын
@@jasonzdora frankly yes, that’s all you need if you’re not serious. A huge number of us who started in the industry in the 80’s had to work with completely unaffordable equipment and we made peanuts, with the argument being made that this is how you learn. We had to borrow tech manuals, text books, white papers, trade magazines, etc to get the tech details, because video required a huge amount of technical understanding to make it work. It was flakey, lossy, and very difficult to get it working correctly. We still did it. You don’t need all that much technical knowledge to make a KZbin video. But, if you’re serious, you’ll do the learning. If you’re not serious, stay with something easy, and yes, that’s iMovie. Frankly you don’t sound like you’re serious about wanting to be more than a hobbyist and that’s fine. If you really want to be more than that, learn on your own dime and quit bitching. Ever thought about ploughing through the Resolve manual to read what’s in their? Grant Petty is one of the most intelligent men I know. He’s made more devices to liberate video from a multimillion dollar facility than any individual alive. He also believes in helping. Read the manual. What isn’t readily available in there is available online.
@jasonzdora3 жыл бұрын
@@lukerabin5079 Im not the one bitching here. Im answering the question asked by the person who made the video. You're here to gatekeep and sound resentful. I'll use this awesome free program all I want and read the manual when I have time. Until then, I'll keep looking for videos by creators like this when I hit a wall on something. Stay cool.

I often complain that you talk too fast and move too fast in your videos. But the pacing in this video was perfect. You sound like a normal person explaining stuff to a friend instead of a KZbinr trying to cram as many words as possible into each second.
@stivosaurus3 жыл бұрын
You can reduce the playback speed if you find it hard to keep up. Easy peasy!
@GrantSR3 жыл бұрын
@@stivosaurus Have you tried it? No you haven't. KZbin only adjusts in 25% increments. 75% speed is so slow it is even harder to make out what he's saying. Plus, slowing down a video still doesn't make up for the fact that ALL these KZbin-fast-talkers slur their words, leave words out, and say one thing while doing another, all in an effort to cram in as much not-actually-explaining as possible. They picked up that terrible habit way back when KZbin had time limits, and now they think that makes them a "more important" KZbinr, when it really just makes them irritating. And fanbois like you don't help when you go insulting the intelligence of people who simply don't think watching a KZbin video should be work. My degree is in computer science and education. All these KZbin-fast talkers are doing is increasing cognitive overload for no good reason. Unless, of course, fast-talking is a ploy to cover for the fact that they rarely actually explain what they are doing and why. Which makes it even more irritating.

Same story here as well. I tried using the Cut page several times before I got the Speed Editor. Just couldn't make it work for me. Once I got the Speed Editor, the Cut page became my first line in editing videos. I can definitely say that workflow is much more quick now than before. Projects that would have taken the better part of a day to complete are now done in just a couple hours. But without the Speed Editor, the Cut page is kind of cumbersome to use.
