Tyrol is the OG midwest spot, pretty sure they were first to have a halfpipe and a park. The park was gnarly, not like stuff is today. I specifically remember a wooden ladder canon jump and a really long sketchy handrail at the bottom that was literally pulled from a junkyard. They were also always the first to open and every snowboarder from the whole state would show up there for a huge party. I think that still happens these days. At the end of every year they also piled up all remaining snow and covered it with straw and tarps and would uncover it in June and have a summer jam. Some of the other resorts didn't even allow snowboarding at that time in the early 90's and Tyrol felt like it more than welcoming. It actually felt like being part of the whole snowboarding scene instead of some kind of outcast. My first road trips as a teenager were driving there, and we almost always got lost... The locals there had wide stances and cut-off boards and were way better than anyone, so we all started doing it. I hacked an inch off the tip and tail of my board and T-Bolted my bindings at about 24 inches. Took the highbacks off my bindings too. I rode like that for at least two years lol.

Tyrol Basin would be nothing but a beginner area out west. There is no such thing as a real double black diamond in the Midwest especially in Wisconsin... Only Mt Bohemia in Michigan has real double black diamonds. All of the runs you showed would be greens and blues out west

Just skied there yesterday. Live 2 hours from it and never saw such intensity packed into such a tiny quaint place. Definitely going back on a pow day. Almost like a mini Boho. Almost! But different and great. Want tree skiing after Boho 2 months ago first time and it has it. Your neck. Welcome to mid age! After you get to 60 y/o and after 30 times like that you feel like it's a normal occurrence! Wait til you get the back wrench!! That's about 50x worse. You won't want to move. But at my age just normal pain. I am the "Snow Goat". When you see me you will know! Skied Palmer back in the seventies in summer and worked Meadows. Lived next to Heavenly now finding pleasure in Midwest chill. Great videos!

Tyrol Basin! It was the only place in the area that had a mini pipe back in the day. Small hill but they do a lot with what they have. Stiff neck sucks. A heating pad does wonders for pain.
