Today we will be testing craft kits from Japan and North American. Which DIY Candle making kit is better? I love weird Japanese products! The first one has a rainbow wax chips, the other one is a Dori and Nemo kind of environment from Japan. Both of these kits are anywhere from 5 minute crafts to 20 minutes. You can find the North American Kit from Walmart, or more recently from Five Below!

Gel candle kits never tell you, that the gel has to be really really hot when you pour it . That way there is not nearly as many bubbles as what you had . I worked in a candle factory for several years. When they started working with the gel, it was a real pain. We would have metal five gallon buckets of gel that was scented differently. That would be re heated up on gas burners when that specific scent was needed for orders. I had the grand experience of walking around for a couple weeks with my hand burned and smelling like patchouli. To this day I can not stand that scent.

U should've put a tiny layer of that Gel stuff-a-ma-bob in the container over the sand before putting the fishies in. So instead of them sitting directly on the sand they would've been kinda suspended in the gel.

I have to disagree with the scent thing. Here scented candles isn't a huge thing. Mostly people buy normal candles and if they buy a scented one, it's low in scent and only puts it up in the bathroom or something and never lights it as to keep the scent from becoming too strong.

Whitney Dahlin I think it would definitely be nice if they had scents, but that kind of stuff can be very expensive and can really fog the wax up. Definitely something I'd expect in a $30 kit, probably not in a $15-20 one. Also, while a lot of people have candles for the scents, we actually have a ton of plain ones and I just think the fire is very nice to watch

Probably cheaper to buy candle making supplies instead of a kit and make candles based on a tutorial or a book. I've made candles with my leftover wax. Also, unscented makes us multi-chemical sensitive grains happy.

I once got a craft kit that said “includes everything you need” and it actually did! It even came with scissors, they actually worked really well! Edit: I’m pretty sure it’s called sock puppy. The brand is creativity for kids. I got it a long time ago and I did some “research” and found it again, but as one of the reply’s said, I think Jackie should try it, she would like it :D The kit was kinda funny, but it came with scissors, and that’s all that I need

when i was younger my parents used to buy me the 'jelly' candle kits all the time! They were really popular where I live (Northern Ireland) but i don't remember them ever having so many bubbles in them

I feel like there’s a step missing in the US kit saying to melt the wax chips before pouring them into the candle mold. Seems odd to just fill it with chips and then use that as the candle. Also seems like the photos on the box don’t show little chips in the molds it looks solid to me. But who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nope. I've seen these kinds of kits before. You really are just supposed to pour the chips in as is. It's mimicking sand art bottles which is the same general idea except you use colored sand, and the bottle gets sealed up.

I have this kind of kit at home, and you can do both! You can melt them to have a solid candle, but you can also leave the wax like that, but it can be kinda messy, especially if you're as clumsy as I am 😂

The problem that I can also see with the American kit is that the wick is not really that thick ( specially with those wax chips) and in a base like the swirly one, you need to have the top part more open so the air can go through, even if it still was lightened it would probably go off because of the shape

The reason the wick is shorter is because they waxed it so it would stand up. If you were to get a coil of rope you would have had to tie it to a stick balanced on the glass top or it would sink into the wax before cooling. With the coil you would have had to cut dome off so it would end up shorter anyway. At least thats how I make them but I don't use kits. :)

My daughter got the north American candle kit for her 9th birthday and I agree about the wicks. But my daughter liked that she could do the activity on her own. We didn't light them though we're using them for decorations. 🙂

I recommend a kit that I got from my hobby lobby. You can make 6 candles, you will have left over wax, it comes with coloring, also sent, and the wicks fit the glass! The only thing that you would need that’s not in the kit is a container to melt wax. It’s called Votive Starter Kit. It’s made by County Lane.

With candles? Good luck with that. I mean I guess if you have enough other flammable things around but really the candle isn't necessary at that point/is just an extra step. Use the match/lighter and light the other stuffs.. or just use something with a better flame than a candle ; p (Not that you actually should... I'm just saying that's a super inefficient way to attempt arson)

There is a place called “The Art Box” down in Ogden, Utah. It’s a gift shop but also has lots of arts and craft classes. I’ve gone there many times to make candles! Though expensive, they charge based off of the size of the candle and materials you use. You choose pieces of colored wax, cut them, and place them in the candle. You get to choose the shape and size of the candles. You also can choose the scent. It’s awesome!!!

Maybe the gel candle will clear up as the gel melts and lets the bubbles escape? The fishes were also glass lampwork pieces, which is nice. I definitely liked the Japanese one better.
