In reality the plan is for you to either stay at home or take the public transit. Making automobiles too expensive is just part of the plan. The government would like all of us to live is huge urban centers like NYC. The sheeple are easier to control when the are in one spot and dependent on the government for everything.

@@d_mb I have an '07 Acura TL TYPE S, I know, I also have free charging at my workplace so having an EV would just cost me insurance and the vehicle payment, Tesla is giving 0.99 APR financing now for upto 72 months, on top of all the government subsidies. You can get a Model Y for pretty much comparable prices vs an new gas car. I was commenting at the OG poster throwing the 30-40k price marks, that's what a new Model Y would cost you right now. Obviously buying a beater gas car would still be way cheaper.

@teole6364, to be fair, there are apparently MILLIONS of "people" who "think" that it's "good" to "end the lives of innocent unborn children for ANY REASON!!" And that's just absolutely demonic. There may be situations where it is _warranted_ to "end the life of the unborn child" at some stage but "ANY" is the disqualifier because it goes BEYOND "life/death medical emergency, 'my 9 yr old daughter was [redacted] by her daddy'." Those were not the issues in question, those which were are "I don't want no stretch marks, kill it!", "My folks cain't have no mixed-race baby, kill it!", "I don't want no kid right now, kill it!" etc. This is effectively utilizing "abortion as a means of birth control" rather than people exercising SELF-CONTROL. But clearly a godless society moves further and further away from "accountability/personal responsibility/morality" etc., because at that point "all forms of moral law" are left to be "determined by the entity which will benefit or suffer as a result of implementing those moral laws" rather than looking to a "moral-law Giver" such as God....

Actually it is not true about the range, at least nowadays it is not a big problem. Like, yes, few cars like, Tesla Model S Plaid, or Ludacris cars, they have way too much power, which makes battery overheat, they lose their capacity that way. But if you drive normal electric car, in ten years you go from 100% to 80%, but it still does not matter if people charge their cars every day, that can be felt only if you drive like 300-400km or for Americans, 190 - 250 then there might have some problems, especially in Winter, but in Europe, I don't know who normally drives so long, it is in Latvia probably like 1% or even less, like only truckers drive so long normally in Latvia, and they mostly drive what they can drive in 9 hours if I correctly remember. So, range is no problem, because EV is like phone, you can charge it over night or when you don't use it, it is not like we have gasoline phones, bad comparison, but you get the idea.

@mariokrings
@mariokrings 7 ай бұрын
I don't know about the energy consume of your AC(air conditioning), but AC (alternating current) charging consumes usually around 7 kw. And unlike the always running AC you're not charging your car all around the clock. Neither your neighbours....
@testi2025
@testi2025 7 ай бұрын
Average us citizen drives 40 miles per day and an average EV consumes 300 watt/h per mile. So that’s 12kwh per day. Your HVAC can consume everywhere from 50-100kwh per day. But you preferably would want to charge only when the battery is low and then charge the battery to 80-90%. So then you would have 7-11kw load for number of hours every now and then. Having dynamic pricing would steer drivers to charge when the HVAC load is lower.

Whoever said a clean, quiet and fast EV was incompatible with society? Imagine if EVs had won over gas cars in the early 1900s, and then in 2012 someone says ":you know what, I've got a great idea... we've got these new vehicles that are slower, smellier, and expensive, and they emit this toxic gas that will kill millions each year. And that's not all - we will drill this oil out of the Earth from the far side of the world, then we'll load it up into huge shipping vessels that sometimes spill it all into the oceans, but when it does arrive into our country, then we'll spend insane amounts of energy refining it, and then we'll ship it all across the country in trucks or pipelines, then we bury it back into the ground, and then we charge crazy prices for it. And it's explosive, so sometimes cars will catch on fire and/or explode. The vehicles will also have thousands of moving parts, versus the dozen or so for an EV, so you'll have to get it fixed a lot by people who understand it and like getting their hands all greasy. Oh, and we'll probably have to fight a few wars over this black goo that we use to power these cars." Yeah, see how ridiculous that looks in hindsight?

This should hurt as much as it should enrage you because as Europe, Asia and even Australia is moving onto EVs, the US is unable to. It just means the US is falling behind technologically and instead of pushing and fighting for improvement, you're complacent to your situation of not moving at all. Once those EV plants start showing up in South America and they develop EV infrastructure, it would literally only be the US that's going to be using gas powered cars. That's the future you're cheering for.

Insurance is also up to 5x more expensive and tire replacement is about 4x more expensive (plus the tires only last 1/2 as long because of the vehicles heavy weight). When the battery wears out, you have to dispose of the EV as toxic waste because Lithium is toxic to humans, animals, and plants. Plus Lithium will ignite on contact with water, including the water vapor in the air (this is why it was stored under oil in chemistry class when you were a kid and you can find youtube videos of people throwing it in lakes and rivers to cause little explosions).

As an EV owner myself I would NEVER recommend one to anyone that's unable to park and charge at home. They're fine for trips actually, but expect to wait 20 minutes every few hours to charge... works for me as even in an ICE car I like to stop every few hours to stretch, use the RR etc, but that's not everyone. But the deal breaker is 100% having to stop and charge when using it for daily driving. Waking up to a full tank every day is amazing... having to think about charging every few days when driving it for daily and having to wait 20 to 30 minutes at a charger? No thanks. In a place like New York... heeeck no. The infrastructure isn't anywhere close to being ready, so please keep your ICE vehicle, or at least have one as a backup.

EV's are expensive to buy & insure. Takes a long time to charge, & have been known to burn down the house they're parked in. Also, having electric cars in a confined space like a parking garage is an EXTREME fire hazard. I would not be surprised if in 20 years when all the blood has been payed to get new safety regulation passed, the law will mandate that all parking garages that are allowed to house vehicles powered by lithium batteries must fulfill very stringent conditions when it comes to fire suppression systems and ventilation. Same thing should apply to tunnels as they are also absolute deathtraps during regular fires that are easier to put out, can be suffocated and not nearly as toxic.

Retired teacher here. A few decades ago, my district decided to use a math curriculum that had no textbooks. YAY! Massive savings! Let's adopt it for all the grade levels! The problem was that since there were no student textbooks, the teacher had to Xerox each day's worth of material for every single student. So the money they saved by not having textbooks was instead spent on copy paper, toner and clicks. Not to mention all the additional wear and tear on the copiers. As the school year progressed, it became very painfully obvious that the district had made a horrible decision that ended up costing far more then what they saved. That program only lasted a year before it was scrapped. I see the same mind set with EV. And I see the same outcome heading our way. Personally, I think the government already knows this EV thing is heading south fast and right before those mandates kick in, there will be legislation passed very quickly and quietly to push it back a few years. Then, when we still can't meet the timelines, the whole thing will be scrapped. Anyone else remember the great metric conversion attempts?

EVs are Genuinely the future, how long it takes is the difference. I work as an Industrial electrician in a factory. We have motors on machines that run 3-4000RPM and have been running constantly 24/5 shifts for 30 years. Some motors that haven't been replaced at all. And the ones that have are around 1.5K. Not 16-20K for a combustion engine. Bear in mind. This is maintenance free. Your brushless motor requires no maintenance. Your gearbox needs change of oil. However, being a single reduction, there are few moving parts... less to go wrong. Battery technology is safe. You have one in your pocket daily. Most power tools are now electric. And EV vehicles have 10X the saftey measures that phones do plus heating, and cooling for longevity. EVs (second hand) are just better. You will not get a better value for money if you have the ability to charge at home. Out and about is different. But most EVs will give you 200 miles for 1/3rd of the cost of a gas car. People feared 10 years ago that batteries would fail. But after 12 years nissan admitted that nearly every nissan leaf had the original battery in it. And that was battery tech a decade ago. I think people genuinely don't realise the jump in tech since then. Fear the chinese. If not tesla, your streets will soon be filled with cheap Chinese EVs

The politicians already made money by investing in the infrastructure. That’s why they don’t care if this project fails. If they do care then their investment is in the continued construction of the charging stations or the construction of the batteries.

I work for a huge water company in Central NY. During peak summer hours when everyone has their AC units running, and EVs charging, we have to shutdown many of our water pumps. This means we have to run much harder during the non-peak hours, resulting in the grid being close to capacity nearly 24 hours a day!

Currently, the government has no say regarding which car you buy. Some states will require EV purchases in 2035, so if you live in one of those states and you don't want an EV, buy a gasoline car in 2034. That will give you until 2045 or later before you will need to buy an EV. Are you really worried about something that is more than 20 years away ? Chances are by 2040 you'll own an EV anyway.

Was forced to rent a EV on a trip one time. Picked up the car with 25% battery!!! So we started our trip with a crash course in finding fast charging stations that worked! Horrible experience! Electric is almost as expensive as gas and you have to sit for at least an hour (fast charge station) to charge your car. It was a good idea to have the stations near shops but those stations were always broken or literally had lines to charge your car and yes this was in Cali can’t imagine what the experience would be like in another state.

I live in NYC and just bought a brand new car 6 months ago. I thought about getting an EV, in fact I wanted one... But the EV version of the Hyundai I got was $10K more and exactly as the video gets into, I don't own a home, so I really don't have anywhere to charge... I wouldn't say there isn't demand for EVs though, they are just still prohibitively exspensive and just not convenient, and I make 6 figures.

Maintaining cars in NY is expensive in itself. Theres no street parking. If you can find a spot. The streets are so narrow and drivers can be so bad that they may scratch them passing by. The insurance is high. The roads always have potholes. Many mechanics here are scummy. Why would anyone whose been saving every penny risk getting an EV? Especially considering if they are way better options available.
