This is exaggeration. I just went to my hometown by birth in China last month, a tiny & relatively unknown town of 5 million people by Chinese standards, and all merchants still accepted cash, along with the WeChat pay thingy. Needless to say, going completely cashless would cause tremendous problems for foreign travelers who can't have Chinese bank accounts to link up with the WeChat pay thingy.

We are already cashless in the US, it’s just in the form of cards instead of a phone. Once Apple Pay etc takes off we will pretty much have the same thing. We already use cards for everything. Nobody brings wads of cash to pay a doctor bill, or buy a car. We use cards and electronic banking. China is just using a QR code debit card. But it’s still a debit card.
@liuhunan6 жыл бұрын
You're partly correct. But the technology is not so easy as you thought. I think every one has the experience of being waiting long for the POS machine to print, and sometimes it just fails! By mobile pay, they should solve the problem that server should sustain when a great amount of people are paying at the same time. You couldn't imagine that in spring festival 2016, there're 17.7 billions requests per minute for alipay. Both alipay and wechat have passed similar pressure tests. When other companies want to do the same thing, it's not impossible, but at the same time not a piece of cake.
@TransitAndTeslas6 жыл бұрын
何文波 We have large festivals like Coachella which are 3 days long and Apple Pay worked EVERYWHERE in there, and if you don’t have Apple, your chip credit/debit card worked fine. Everywhere I went the card processed in 1-3 seconds. And most cards here I don’t wait for it to print, i just say no receipt and they move on. Most card readers are integrated directly with the register so it’s faster than the standalone stuff.
@liuhunan6 жыл бұрын
The problem of apply pay is: you need to have an apple. Actually, it's not OK when you have an old Apple...Of course you have many "if not, then..."But it means already that you can't solve the problem with only one App. The advantage of Alipay and Wechat is, almost every chinese have those Apps. Actually not only for chinese, everyone can downloaded it easily, no matter which phone you have, android or apple, or even nokia with windows phone. If your phone has no more data and there is no wifi, the seller can scan your code. On the other hand, wechat has the function of whatsapp, facebook, applepay, you can even buy investment products... technology is changing our life, the most important thing is, it should be simple, simple and simple to use. If you are creating more problems by your very good designed product, it's still nothing great for the users.

I just have one problem with this and that is these cashless payments are charged by their operators and so you pay for each payment you make which means you pay more than what the actual price of the goods is and you spend more overall, those admin fees will go up with inflation as was the case with my bank, first it was free to pay cashless than after a few years they stared charging and it's only when I saw my bank chargers that I realized how much more I was spending per month just by going cashless🤤😟😢 PS the fees have been going up each year since they started charging so it costs more each year just like the atm but now you use the atm and pay the atm fees every time at each and every till/paypoint you use. In China is going cashless to monitor and surveying their citizens

Attention: Mobile payment apps mostly serve as platforms to your credit cards or debit cards. Mobile payment right now does not replace your cards. You just don't need to take them out and swipe them through a machine. The Apps like Wechat and Ali pay have their own cash account and you can transfer the money between users and consume them without using credit cards, but you still have to transfer money from your debit card issued by banks to those cash accounts. Of course people mostly would prefer to use credit card accounts in stores.
@delimyli81367 жыл бұрын
Mostly true. But do you expect a street vender to pay for the pos machine and the fees for credit card transactions? At least not here in US. Even gas stations offer better price if you pay in cash.
@Xunxunism7 жыл бұрын
I used the word "mostly". It is true the mobile platform facilitates convenience in small cash transfer between people and small businesses, like street vendors. I believe the amount involved is a very small percentage. I don't see this convenience in the US and the coins are especially troublesome.

There really is no going back at this point, I live in Canada, and I don't remember the last time I carried any cash, it must have been a few years back, there are still a few local shops that are cash only, and we tend to just avoid them It is not a secret at all that the bank builds a profile of you by looking at where you shop, what you buy, when do you buy them, most of the time for the simple purpose of building more sales opportunities with you, or partner with the places you shop to establish loyalty, simple example is if you made multiple purchases in home depot in a short period of time, you may see an ed for a home renovation loan. Unless you have an idealogical reason to resist, this is the direction things are going It is quite fascinating that so much can be inferred by looking at commercial activities, just for fun, let's say you know your competitor is working on a secret project, and you know they are either about to launch or is hitting a serious roadblock because of the surge in sales of take out food in the near by eateries (this is purely my imagination) Another aspect of a cashless society is that there is detachment between availability of money and your quality of life. For example, most people now have a or a few credit cards, or lines of credit, and OD protection, so quite conceivably, we maintain (for a while) the consistent standard of living by utilizing these tools.. that is, the numbers in the account may go North or South, but until you have exhausted all your means of raising funds, you don't have to change anything in how you live. Now if you are living on cold hard cash, you will not be able to negative, and will very quickly have to adjust your life style if cash is running low
