@Luna’s Rambles…..it isn’t about “luck of the draw” at all, though. Casinos are in business and the odds are in their favor. That’s why casinos make money. The rules exist for them to make money. If you will, it is NOT the casino’s money you win- it is the money of OTHER people. Some people will make money, others will lose money, the casino will make money because those who lose, lose more than the people who win. That’s where the casino’s profit comes from. Make no mistake, nobody wins the casino’s money. Casinos have no desire for people to change the odds , which are set in THEIR favor, to odds that are more favorable. ie Counting cards do not allow the player to win, but simply create odds that are more favorable to them. Casinos love the odds, so long as they favor them.

(or threaten them with one with a request to pay you out for that amount) If you were to leave the casino with the chips and re-enter the casino they can deny you a payout for them on suspicious grounds of them fraudulent (without proof) and confiscate their property and if you wanted reimbursement you'd have to settle that in court as well. These are things they can do just because its their establishment. they can do it to anyone they choose and do not need a reason to do so. The only things the gambler does have in their favor are any precedents already set in law, in which would help their case and they could sue for punitive damages on top of their damages and costs. because of this most establishments just pay them out before they leave and then refuse entry. which is legal and lawful for them to do.

@@MrBadjohn69 Washington state does _not_ have any Stop and Identify statute requiring compulsory identification to _anyone._ A private establishment may set forth policies requiring individuals seeking entry to provide identification, and may also establish policies requiring patrons within the establishment to provide identification upon request, but neither of these _requests_ are lawful. There is no criminal code to refuse to identify to enter a casino, or bar, and no criminal code pertaining to someone already within the establishment refusing to provide identification. The establishment reserves the right, as a private entity on private property, to refuse service to anyone they please - as well as the right to request anyone to leave their property. Neither of which requires the individual to identify themselves. No casino, or bar, may press criminal charges for someone refusing to identify, because they have no legal authority to do so - as it's _not_ a crime, or violation of _law._ The only thing you were correct about was whether or not a bar can ask for an ID at any time. Yes, they may ask anyone, at any time, for identification. In fact, any random person walking down a sidewalk has the right to _ask_ for anyone's identification. That does _not_ mean there's any legal obligation to fulfill the request. Ask any practicing Washington state attorney, or just use google. It's free.

@sebastiannielsen Жыл бұрын
Its just how law work. They are allowed to do that to discourage underages from gambling. If they know cheating the system is 100% loss, they will never get the money out, they are discouraged. Thats why, when I worked in a convience store, I would take payment first, then ask for ID, and if ID was underage or person did not have ID, I would enter 0.00 in cash register and then push the "TIP 100%" button (meaning the sum registred in the card machine were allocated 100% to TIP) on the cash register. That was free money for the store. So when underage attempted to buy alcohol, they would lose both money and product. And since they were underage, they would just get a laugh from the grown ups when they said: "I attempted to illegally buy alcohol as a underage and they kept all my money!". This ONLY works in countries where the law says its illegal to give alcohol to underage, but legal to sell alcohol to underage. (Sweden is such a country, the laws says you may not physically give alcohol to a underage, regardless of its for money or for free, but you can legally sell alcohol to a underage, as long as you dont give the bottle to the underage). If the law says its illegal to both sell and give alcohol to underage, this trick don't work, since then its illegal to also sell (as in completing a monetary transaction) the alcohol to underage even if you don't give the alcohol to the underage afterwards. In sweden you can actually BUY a pistol without a weapon's license. You just wont get the pistol until you show a license. Its because the law says its legal to sell weapons to those lacking the license, but you may not physically transfer a pistol to someone lacking a license.

Some bad luck (variance) on those hands could cause a fast and large downswing. On that day the casino profited off of the variance, while in the long run the casino industry would lose money on the positive EV

"Not gonna play games" - My dude. This is an entire business built around playing games. The only difference is they rig the games in their favor, and anyone who manages to find a way to gain the advantage is denied service. It should be illegal to take advantage of less capable people, and giving them free alcohol to make them make poor decisions. But instead we punish the observant people who manage to get lucky... and counting cards is not perfect, it still requires luck.
@blablabla77962 жыл бұрын
@@Bancheis it doesn’t require luck. That’s the point. If you play a thousand hands, your small statistical advantage will guarantee a net gain. If you’re at a net loss with a statistical advantage over thousands of games, you might as well have won multiple lotteries in a row in how unlucky you are. I would show you the math but I’m too lazy and you probably don’t care. But again, no luck involved in card counting. You just need to play a shit ton of hands to benefit.
@Bancheis2 жыл бұрын
@@blablabla7796 If you are keeping the bets small and playing hundreds of hands, sure. If you start off with a fresh deck and know every card that has already been dealt, sure. If your betting is not too aggressive and you don't lose all your winnings with a bad loss streak, sure. But if there is a bad loss streak when the numbers tell you otherwise, then there has to be some luck involved. Sure, you could probably do the math and find out the maximum you can bet and lose per hand at +5 and still come out ahead, but I still feel there is still going to be an element of luck involved. What works for some might not work for others, and the crazy thing about statistics and calculations about averages is you can easily lose when you expect to win. This is the Gambler's Fallacy, and yes it does apply to Blackjack in the sense that you are expecting to win based on statistics. Gambler's Fallacy is most well known for the Monte Carlo incident where a game of roulette landed on black 26 times in a row. That's a one in 66.6 million chance to happen, yet it did. People lost millions that day because they expected a (roughly) 50/50 chance to balance out and for red to come up more and more as the spins went on. Statistically, red should be coming up more often, absolutely. But if you are working with small sample sizes, and you were unlucky enough to sit down right before this streak started, you probably lost money on it. Counting the cards in successive deals from an unshuffled card deck, sure you can calculate that and win easy. However many casinos counteract card counting by adding more decks to the mix. The average is 6 decks, and some even run 8 decks. This severely impacts your odds, and while it may still be in your favor after a bunch of low cards, the odds don't change so much that you can guarantee high cards come out for you. Especially with others in the hand. There is always a chance the 1 in 66 million is going to happen to you, and with card counting from 6 or 8 decks, your odds are much more likely. Hence the Gambler's Fallacy.
@blablabla77962 жыл бұрын
@@Bancheis the point of card counting is to have a statistical edge. You don’t go in with the mindset that a 5% edge over the house and bet your life savings. You bet small and you play over the span of hours over multiple days. You should keep that in mind when card counting. You play so that luck _isn’t_ a factor. That’s the point. Your whole spiel about the gambler’s fallacy doesn’t refute anything I’m saying. I’m not sure why you took time out of your day to say that. Again, you count cards over hundreds if not thousands of hands. You bet a small amount and increase the bet proportional to your edge. You scale your bets vs your total initial investment so that the chance of you zeroing out your funds become as likely as winning the lottery.

Casinos certainly contain some scummy parts - by their very nature, they're a 'funhouse' where people go in and essentially siphon off money to the owners. While individuals may get lucky here and there, there are so many people betting so often that the 'long run' is basically consistent, and the long run from the casino point of view is +EV on every game (except niches like - for example - an AP Blackjack player with a high enough count to gain the EV edge). So to begin with, you have a business where they're siphoning off money from everyone, and they usually don't care who. The pensions of the elderly; that poor guy on his last hundred dollars who is so desperate he doesn't care about the odds. They will gladly take every last dollar from people that can't afford to lose said dollars. Individuals within the casino may be decent people, but the business itself is pretty heinous. It's also very profitable - if I could turn off the empathy centre of my brain, and I was a multi millionaire, I'd definitely look at starting a casino or sportsbook (which generally operate in the same way). And because the casino's whole profit structure is based around all the games giving them the edge, they want to squash any interference with that notion immediately - so you get pit bosses, and in some cases, super aggressive pit bosses, who will do whatever they need to to get rid of players who have the edge over them.

No, you got to show your ID to police as they were called to investing a potential crime and States have rules that you need to be able to identify yourself if needed. This is why all States have State ID's because you don't need a drivers license as proof of ID. However we are a population that drives for the most part so it's common to use that as an ID. I'm suspecting people that might have grown up in NYC or other large cities there might be a bunch that don't ever get a drivers license because they never own a vehicle, thus a State ID. Management comes up to you after and tells you to never come back, you say, "Oh? Sure that's shitty. It's all paid for but whatever no problem, I'm leaving now." As you go to grab the shit you paid for, they block you from taking said items and tell you firmly again to leave. You say, "It's already paid for including the drink, I'm trying to leave! If that's the case, it means he could refuse to cash people out regardless of whether or not ID is shown. This means they can take people's money by telling them they can cash out, then decide not to cash out for whatever arbitrary reason's they choose. This is fraud. No, it does not matter that you aren't a citizen of the united states. Next time, politely ask the police officer if they'd be willing to articulate what crime they have reasonable suspicion that you committed. If they cannot articulate, don't provide identification. If they press for ID, or threaten to charge you with failure to identify or obstruction as there is no actual crime being investigated and the matter that the casino called is purely civil UNTIL trespassed. Them withholding money over $1,000 meets the minimum threshold for felony theft in most states ($1,000-$2,500). Let them forcibly remove your ID. Seeing as safety is highly subjective. Does it work? Some. Individual State’s are more analogous to European Countries however. Where the Federal power is universal, the States individual laws are not. So in some few States there are heavier recording restrictions. And others more lax. This is wrapped in concepts of Consent of the Parties, and Expectation of Privacy. And they vary. However if I ran a Casino in Germany, if it was legal, I’d only run a Gaming Floor if the individual agreed to waive the right. And restrict access based upon whether you agree or not. With specifics of who can have that data and recording stipulated. One also wonders how Germans use services like KZbin or Google. They constantly track you. @@chickenmonger123 Roughly (because european countries vary in law), info in casinos is compartmentalised. The databases are not provided or run by private companies, but by government agency, and they don't register card counters. All they do is store legal-ralated stuff. Say you accrued massive gambling debts. A judge can bar you from casinos, and you will be flagged on entry. A vetted agent in the casino will process that info. And only that vetted person. They are not allowed to communicate reasons or anything to other staff, just "that person has been flagged, they can't play". Those databases store your name, age, gender and national ID number (depending on the country). Another way to be barred is to ask for it yourself. Lots of former gambling adicts do that to avoid the compulsion throwing them off. In my country, that ban stays in place for 5 years until you renew it. That specific database is managed by the ministry of either justice or interior affairs. Casinos can still refuse service and ask you to leave (on the condition that it isn't based on discrimination) if they recognise you as a counter or some such, but that info won't be shared at all with other casinos, lest they want a run-in with the relevant authority. (In France, it fetches 5 years in prison and 300 000€ in fine, moral entities being deemed responsible trough their CEO. Add 15k€ and a year every time the commission in charges deems an obstruction to their work has been made. Belgium is along the same lines. Norway just fined a company 6M€ for illegally sharing data). There is, however, a need to process ID or other data in some cases. Tax (their own or that of the customer), function (apps for gps etc),... In those cases, they have to make it clear what is used, how and when. And you have to agree to access the service. In the case of France and Belgium, there is even a mandatory separate option to allow customers to stop companies from sharing that data to other companies. And companies must be able to track who they sold data to if ever the customer wants it brought down, which they are legally entitled to ask trough a basic letter. Companies have two weeks counting from the reception of the demand to comply. Past that, if you get phone call ads or anything because of that data, the company is liable. To avoid the issues that might cause in terms of logistics, they indeed proceed like you suggested in your last paragraph.

When you tilt the odds in your favor they don't want your action because you're no longer just playing for entertainment, or not playing in the spirit of the game, or whatever other bs they say. And they can give themselves cover for asking for ID saying they need to make sure you're old enough to gamble even if that's not the true reason. They are truly a slimy operation but they'll always exist because there's always people who will be willing to pay for the (expensive) entertainment just like any other entertainment people normally enjoy.

Card counting is advantage play and casinos have a right to not let you play - everyone knows the odds are not in Your favour and yet still enter and gamble the casino is not forcing you to give them money. ID is required by law to prevent things like money laundering and problem gambling. As a dealer I feel casinos are given a bad name sometimes unfairly by people believing bullshit stories and conspiracies about the place - play within your means and you won’t regret what you have spent, there are signs all over the building about responsible gambling and we have a job to protect our customers wellbeing.

That guy at 19:25 is not the hero we want but the hero we need. Straight up backed you in doing exactly what the casinos do daily to people ie making the odds ever so slightly fall in your favor without legally braking any laws.

The minute you win they refuse to cash out. Says a lot about casinos and the lack of morals these establishments have
@cragl3yman3432 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure there's some legality issues there if they won't allow you to cash out. Counting Cards isn't illegal they just don't like it because it gives players advantages over the house. Which I mean if they back him off or ban him is perfectly fine, but any winnings he has gained are perfectly his he won them fair and square.

Just not true, he was not refusing to cash him out because he was winning. He was an advantage player, that's why he was asked to leave. Lack of morals, he knows exactly what he is doing and acting dumb most of the time. He puts himself in this positions, just wasting everyone's time and resources.

Never understood how a casino can legally stop an individual from playing a game if the player has the intellectual ability to beat the casino.
@Denverian2 жыл бұрын
there's no law that states a casino shall stop players from playing. But they have a right to refuse to serve/allow individuals on their establishment and that's what they are exercising. They pretend they have rights to refuse cash out or require ID for every step a person makes, that's just tactics to give hard time on the player and let the person give up and just leave.

@@Denverian per the WA state liquor control board, anywhere with restrictions of minors (ie bars, stripclubs, casino gaming floors generally) you have to be able to provide ID at any point or may be asked to leave the premises. verifying his id to cash out could easily be a tracking thing for tax purposes since anything over 10k per day requires a report, and several transactions spread over several days requires a suspicious activity report (those are both from OR casinos, my former roommate worked in the cage of one, i am not 100% sure if it is the same in WA casinos)

They have the right not to provide you their services in the same way that KZbin could decide to ban your account for no reason what so ever and you can do nothing about it. Basically they say "i am a private entity and this is my home, i can serve who ever i want at my home." So they can deny serving you cards or letting you play at the black jack table. Of course as an individual you have a right to your own body and personal information which is why they don't have the right to take your ID and try to use tricks to get that.
@DeathBringer7692 жыл бұрын
Counting cards isn't actually illegal. They just don't like it and can ask you to leave, and refuse to do business with you anymore. Them trying to pretend it's "illegal" is them just trying to scare you.

A notice that you're going to be trespassed has to be given before you're trespassed, at which point you can simply leave.
