If you're going to watch James Bond films, you need to go WAY back to the very first one, Dr No (1962) which introduced the world to the legendary Sean Connery as Agent 007. As you proceed through the films and the actors over the decades, you can see the evolution of his character from the womanizing he-man hero that men wanted to emulate through his character eventually having to accept the social changes in the Western world, culminating with him having a female boss (the equally legendary Dame Judi Dench). And of course, you HAVE to watch the older films to experience the wonderful gadgets 007 was supplied with, including everyone's favorite, his Aston-Martin car. (My personal favorite is 1973's Live and Let Die, starring the wise-cracking Roger Moore in the title role, memorable characters and villains, title song by Paul and Linda McCartney, and what has to be one of the most incredible car and boat chase sequences ever filmed - and you'll just love the irascible, racist Sheriff J W Pepper)

5:22 The "parkour king" was in more ways than one. He was pretty much the founder and creator of Parkour. The James Bond films have a habit of finding someone who is doing new and extreme stuff and getting them to do a stunt or sequence in the films. So back in 2006 this was the guy who created Parkour showing off to a bunch of people who had never seen anything like it.

Yeah, I remember seeing that sequence as a terminally online teenager back then, and actually recognizing him, as it was when Parkour was first beginning to go mainstream. My memory/perspective of the time isn't exactly accurate, but I would argue this movie actually played a pretty significant role in mainstream awareness of Parkour.

This is not only my favorite Bond film, but I think it's one of the best action movies of the past 20 years period. I also love movies with card playing. Even if the poker scenes are exaggerated.

The look that Daniel Craig gives when he finally stops the fuel truck and glances up at the aircraft cements him as the ONE actor to portray Bond as a man who senses that he is not immortal. No other actor, including Connery, ever gave that expression. It is just maybe 2 seconds, but priceless in conveying the character.

Vesper’s dialogue in the dinner scene after Bond wins is fascinating. She says, "You've got a choice, you know. Just because you've done something, it doesn't mean that you have to keep doing it." On the surface, she's talking about Bond being an agent and killing people, but the subtext for her is she's talking about betraying her government and by extension, Bond. She's already in love with him, and she's having to deal with the realities of her situation. It was easy for her to betray her government when it was just a faceless institution, but it's much more difficult for her now that she deeply cares about someone personally victimized by her betrayal. By saying that Bond still has a choice in what he does, she is also saying that she can choose to stop being a traitor. But she can't quite convince herself, which is why she's so adamant that Bond can change; it's not really about whether Bond can change, it's about whether she can. Bond returns with a quip about people who can't take advice being the ones who always give it. This startles Vesper because, like the scene on the train, he can see through her. He can't see completely through her; he doesn't know what she's struggling with, but he can see that she's driven by something. Vesper is so rattled by Bond's insight that she's put on the defensive and answers his question with a question of her own, sidestepping the issue. Bond brings the issue back to the forefront by revealing how much he's able to see through her, and saying that he'll never know what's driving her. This is a perfect opportunity for Vesper to come clean and tell him everything, but the opportunity is lost. She gets a text, Bond realizes that Mathis is a traitor, Vesper is kidnapped, then Bond is kidnapped, and then she is forced to make a deal to save Bond's life by giving up the money Bond won in the tournament. After that, it's too late for her. She can't tell him her situation because the people she was working with would kill Bond. So they continue to fall in love, but she knows the relationship is doomed. Her only hope is to die and pay for her sins against Bond. She knows he'll hate her forever, but his hatred is worth it if it keeps him alive. She loves him more than she values her own life.

"How would you want to drink again?" In the Ian Fleming novels, which this is based on, James Bond is actually presented as an alcoholic and drug addict, his drug of choice being Benzedrine from an inhaler. In the novel, Thunderball, on which the movie is based, he's actually sent to a health spa specifically to detox and chill out because he's such a mess from all the drugs and alcohol. Several times in the earlier films, which humanize Bond as little as possible in most cases, they mention that his liver is basically shot. It's used as a joke, but that's a holdover from the novels, which make it clear he's living fast and his body is breaking down as the novels go along.

I'd say if you're going to continue your James Bond journey, you can do Quantum Of Solace next since it's a direct sequel to Casino Royale, but then go watch some of the older Bond films before Skyfall, since that's the 50th anniversary celebration film. Limiting myself to two Bond films per actor Connery: Dr. No, From Russia With Love Lazenby: On Her Majesty's Secret Service*** (Single most important film in the entire James Bond franchise) Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only Dalton: The Living Daylights, License To Kill Brosnan: GoldenEye, The World Is Not Enough Although if you decide to watch all of them I would not be opposed to that.

Yes love! Here for it! No matter how you watch these, it's fine, but after Daniel Craig, you'll have to start with Dr. No and go forward up until this one. This was the "fresh start" Bond, so it's all on it's own with Daniel Craig Bond.

For me, as a fan of Sean Connery and Timothy Dalton, this is the best modern Bond movie. It’s pulled directly from the Ian Fleming novel. The scene where he’s swimming is a homage to Dr No, the original James Bond movie from 1962. Ursula Andress comes out of the water in much the same way as Daniel Craig. The rest of his run as Bond is hit and miss, but having the source material to draw from makes this a classic. This is peak modern James Bond, with some eye candy for women. And yes, THAT scene with the rope was in the book.

Yeah, a lot of people have mixed feelings about the Daniel Craig Bond movies, and I can understand that. But to my mind, when this released, the Bond franchise really was just not being taken seriously by most audiences anymore, and while it did come out at a time of "gritty fatigue," I think it was what was needed for the franchise. Craig brought some emotional weight to the role that didn't exist before, and the movies reached audiences in a way that Bond films hadn't really been achieving anymore. I give him and the whole team props for that, if nothing else.

@@TheGoIsWin21 100%. There are people who love Die Another Day and it did very well at the box office, but I couldn't stand it as a Bond fan. I was never a Pierce Brosnan fan in that role and while Martin Campbell (same director as Casino Royale) did as good a job as anyone at making the film grittier and less ridiculous with Goldeneye, Roger Spottiswood did the exact opposite, intentionally making Die Another Day basically a movie for 13 year old boys. Everything, including the sex scene, was way over the top. This for me is as good as it gets in a modern James Bond movie. It's basically the book, while justifying James Bond's existence in a post-Cold War world. After that, it's kind of all over the place. As much as some fans might not like it, I don't think Pierce Brosnan could have pulled this movie off. It's a reboot, to begin with and I don't think he's a guy who can pull off the performance needed. Some don't like an emotional Bond, but apparently, Ian Fleming did and I'll listen to him before any fan of Bond films Sir Ian wouldn't have endorsed.

26:34 Big poker tournaments, will often be played over several days. The main event at the 2024 World Series of Poker, started on July 3, and didn't have its final table decided until July 14. The finalists then got a day off, before play resumed on the 16th, ultimately finishing the next day. So, essentially, two weeks for that one tournament.

Great reaction, i was waiting for this reaction for so long. Love this one Daniel Craig is the best Bond since the late, great Sean Connery. You are gonna love this James Bond movies they are all tied together, and that chase in the beginning with that guy that do Parkour, well that guy is Sébastien Foucan the founder of freerunning one of styles of Parkour. And a fun-fact, the Aston Martin (Car) flip actually set a world record for flips in a single stunt. A number of world records for stunts were set during this glorious evolution of Bond. I watched a making of documentary for this stunt and they really struggled getting the Aston to flip they kept trying bigger and bigger ramps but the car was just too stable and kept landing on it's wheels, so they had to use an air ram mounted under the car something they really didn't want to do because if you look closely you can see it.(This world record was beat this in the movie The Fall Guy) The chair-rope torture scene is from the original James Bond book, Casino Royale by Ian Fleming. If you read the book Casino Royale, he gets even more beat up than he does here. Like Bond loses pretty much every fight, and the times he does win he has to publicly embarrass himself to not die. That's why Bond in the books is always improving himself. Keep up the good work.

I think this movie is a GREAT, perfect even, Bond movie to start with for someone wanting to give Bond films a try. Even though my first experience with 007 was Roger Moore in the early '80s, the Daniel Craig movies are superb, and more modernized in terms of technology and culture and dialogue. Skyfall and Casino Royale are my two favorite Craig films, and really, my two favorite films of all of the James Bond movies.

Congratulations on finally watching one of the best Bond movies out there. Casino Royale and the subsequent films are all part of the same continuity. Quantum of Solace is a weak sequel, but watchable, Skyfall is rather good (but nowhere near as good as Casino, which the hype would suggest), Spectre is unbearably bad and No Time To Die just marginally better, so I think you wouldn't miss much by not watching the rest. However, I'd suggest you watch one Bond from each era, for example From Russia With Love with Connery (Goldfinger's where the franchise exploded, but the film is a cultural phenomenon, yet not exactly one of the best movies), On Her Majesty's Secret Service with Lazenby, The Spy Who Loved Me with Moore, Licence To Kill with Dalton (still my favorite Bond movie of all time) and GoldenEye with Brosnan. Fair warning: The older the film, the harder it may be to watch for a younger audience. The Connery and Moore eras are pretty different from ours, film-language-wise. In 1989, Dalton's Bond gave the franchise its harder edge, just what Craig's Bond did in 2006 - but where Craig's Bond was praised, Dalton's Bond got lambasted for exactly the same approach.

Out of all of the "Bond Girls" 007 has been involved with, Eva Greens character is by far the best for me, simply because she is as smart and clever as James and plays a mean game of hard to get.

It's not really Podgorica. It was filmed in Karlovy Vary, so really they speak Czech, though it's a big tourist and movie industry place, so almost everyone speaks English.

Daniel Craig is one of the best 007 next to Sean Connery. Hope you stay with the craig series they were done the best following in order and continuing story line. They were not playing blackjack it was Texas hold'em poker.

However, your blood keeps enough oxygen in it for long enough (since it isn’t circulating well to use the oxygen up) that keeping it moving is far far more important. Stopping chest compressions for even seconds has been shown to mean a double digit drop in percent survival chance.

This is very different from the majority Bond films. While Casino Royale is the best of the Craig Bonds, it, and its sequels are more like the Bourne films and not indicative of the decades of Bond films that made the character a world wide phenomenon. While the box office for this film may have been hundreds of millions of dollars, adjusting for inflation puts Goldfinger and Thunderball higher than the Craig films. In other words, more people paid to see Goldfinger and Thunderball in a theater than any of the Daniel Craig Bond films.

I hate that movie reactors start with the Daniel Craig Bond. Dont get me wrong, they're great films, and Craig is a great Bond, but they are so different from the older Bond films, they're "Hollywood" Bond films, and going back to older Bond films after these is just not easy (as they're slower paced and less high octane). Bond films should be reacted to in release order, IMO. But oh well. :(

Nooo Joob ! Big mistake to start a major franchise near its end. Not only is it disrespectful to a major piece of movie history but more importantly you are denying yourself the joy of watching how the character - and cinema itself - develops over the decades and the associated lore of the character and its universe. There are already things that went over your head in Casino Royale because you haven’t done the groundwork of watching the series from Dr No as you should. I’d implore you not to compound that error by continuing but stop, go all the way back to the beginning and start again.

We all come to Bond our own way. My introduction and way in was with Roger Moore. Part of the beauty of the series is you can choose whichever era you want and then go back or go forward. Until Craig's films there wasn't much continuity between them anyway. And CR is the first full day one reboot of the character in the series so always a pretty good place to start for new viewers.
