Some companies are starting to roll back prices on guitars and amps. Is this just a spring fling or are we going to return to pre pandemic prices now that everyone isn't gear crazy.

Sam Ash sale, Gibson Les Paul 50's, was $2999, now $2799. Same guitar from Gibson, Sweetwater $2799. So they "slashed" prices to the normal price, No wonder they are going out of business

Sad thing is Sam Ash has to price these at that cause Gibson gives no room for profit . Gibson and Fender are cruel to retailers . I did get a Marshall Studio Vintage 20 watt for cost . GC priced match Sam Ash a month ago . The GC rep said "WOW , they must be going out of business , thats what we pay for them " . $999 for the Amp and $699 for the cab .

If fender decreased their crazy amount product sku they could consolidate production, focus on the best product for money and drop prices. I’m a fender fan and I don’t need 4 or 5 different levels of American production strat. Just to the American vintage (and actually do QC) and do the ultra (for the modern folks)

There is a catch, Many of the Gibson LP standards are 2022 stock. I bought a heritage cherry sunburst 50s and the guitar is incredible. The guitar looks beautiful and the tones are sweet. Also, the guitar came perfectly set up from Gibson! Intonation spot on and the tuning stability is insane. I was amazed the strings on a 2 year old guitar sounded so crisp, brite and still held perfect tune. I did some research and found Gibsons are shipped with Gibson Brite Wire strings. I just ordered some.

Thanks for spending the time with me Baxter on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing my custom shop tele next year. As for prices, I feel like used instruments are coming down even faster at this point. I’ve had several people that thought they would sell their guitars quickly and would not negotiate only to come back literally two weeks later and be willing to take what I offered. That was not happening a year ago. And on a happy note, I picked up a peerless Epiphone casino in Black for $400.- Hoss

Dealers can't constantly be sending offers on reverb with huge discounts without the manufacturers having to lower prices. It's supply and demand too. When I bought a Les Paul in 2022 it was the only 50s neck standard on the wall at GC. Today they have a dozen LPs plus custom shop models and none of them are selling. They have a Slash LP marked down 30% just because it's been there a year

I'd like to know if Gibson and Fender price protect. If the time comes to really slash prices, what happens to the dealer who paid 20% more, just a few months ago, for the same item? Also not mentioned here is failure to maintain product desirability. Not long ago I would have paid $1400 for a USA Strat that weighed 7.5 pounds (and I did). Now, I'm asked to pay $2000 for a 9.5 pound guitar. It's like manufacturers think we don't notice the laurelwood, the poplar, the pine, the Richlite, the matte finish. All this stuff's ok, but should result in lower prices, not higher.

I use to work for a world wide corporation that is on decline. Which I left by my own choice. A lot of things have led to its decline because of technology, but I believe the number one reason is mid to upper level management. They produced nothing and I know their salaries are insane. A complete clearing of the fat cats, and then put more power at the local shops and I believe you'd see a turn around. I think this is happening at every large corporation. Maybe it's a true return to the mom and pops!

People are back to going out, to playing sport, to seeing friends, going bowling, cinema, gigs, shopping etc etc. covid was an anomaly and you have to think back really hard to when we could do nothing, not work, not go out, not see family so guitars, other instruments, home tech etc took off. Now it is an adjustment, people are offloading some of the guitars they bought and the prices of Gibsons, Fenders and PRS in particular have gone crazy. I have seen a huge downturn in secondhand, I recently bought a mystic red metallic fender strat standard with custom shop fats 50s in A1 condition for £850, a year ago they were trading £1200 to £1400. I think some sage people are offloading their inventory where they loaded up 10 or more guitars and are now looking at it in terms of mortgage payments or family vacations, this is bound to have a knock on effect to new guitar sales especially when you see them at $3000, $4000, 5000 and higher.

Then I did a straight pound to dollar conversion on their UK prices and found we were having over $1000 in mark up. Their studio 20 heads were under $1000 equivalent. Scalpers have ruined just about every one of my hobbies already and paying this crazy mark up made it feel so much like buying from scalpers.

Guitars, Gasoline or Gorgonzala Cheese, the market finds it's level and the market pressures set the prices. 30,000,000 people sitting at home alone during COVID, yeah you'll sell a lot of guitars, prices go up. Everyone out and about now, no one has time for guitar, prices go down.

First of many industries that will begin to cut prices or go out of business. People are strapped with credit card debt to keep up with inflation since the last election. No longer able to just load up on a credit card, people have slowed down discriminate purchases.

Gibson has gotten a pretty bad reputation for tuning instability and headstock breaks. Whether they deserve that or not is still an open question. But with so many folks making similar-shaped guitars with modern features many of us want (contoured heel joint, neck volute) for 10-20% of what Gibson is asking, there needs to be some price response.

I think the whole Musical Instrument business will slow down into non existence. Fender Guitars will be referred to as the new Beanie Babies. If you’re a collector thinking your exotic Guitar Collection is going to be your retirement fund, guess again. For a decade I sold Electric Guitars on eBay. The last one took me a year and a half to sell. I had to sell the Neck and the Body separately, because shipping went way up.

Your close on the economy but not quite there. The dollar is strong, meaning that American goods cost more overseas. And as bad as you might think our inflation is, it's worse overseas. So it's a double whammy.

I first got back into playing guitar about 2008. Gibson Les Paul Standards were $1499. Les Paul Customs were $2499. Fender American Standard Strats were $999. Fender MIM standards were $399. Prices have steadily risen over the last 16 years much faster than my income. It’s crazy. It’s not surprising people can’t afford today’s prices. Used gear markets have reverted back to 1/2 the cost of new as demand has lessened. Market is flooded. Why buy new when a lightly played guitar with a couple beauty marks can save you a ton of cash. Another thought…. Epiphones now have the open book headstock. All those older clipped ear Epiphones are dropping in value fast because no one wants one when the new ones look like a Gibson until you get close.

People need to "Vote with their wallets", so maybe this is a sign that's finally happening. Prices skyrocketed during Covid and afterwards... and people just kept on buying. A false sense of scarcity made it feel like everyone thought Everything became collectible, "Get it before it's gone forever!!!" These companies don't want to stop making gear. They produce more instruments now than ever before in their history. There is no actual scarcity. If people stop buying, prices will fall.
