Casio Duro MDV-106 "Marlin" Diver Style Watch. A Complete Collection (Almost)

The Casio MDV-106 "Duro" Diver Style watch was first released in 2011. It's a tough, very affordable watch which fits within the Rolex Submariner Homage category, even though it's a quartz watch. And people love the Duro, which is also called a "Marlin" because of the fish illustration on the face and also on the back case cover. But there's also a new version (without the fish) which seems to be essentially the same. It's the MDV-107. But wait! The MDV-107 appears to be an International release which is just a bit harder to find if, like me, you happen to be in the USA.
ANYWAY, I decided to buy all of the versions of the MDV-106 I could find now, just in case they were all discontinued in favor of the MDV-107. Granted, I have no definitive information which says the MDV-106 is being phased out. But, just in case that happens. I decided to get them all.

Indeed the MDV107 is meant for the international market and the mdv106 is for North America. I think the licensing rights for the marlin were originally signed for NA only since the Duro was not sold officially internationally. So they released it internationaly without the marlin and in north America they can still use the marlin since they released the new colors after the launch of the MDV107. Also the MDV107 has applied indices and significantly better lume.

Just getting "back" into watches and wanted to get my first diver to see how I like them wear wise. I was originally going to go for a Seiko, but frankly this has me almost entirely satisfied. Never say never (I still love MANY of the Seiko Divers) but my lord this thing has me head over heels. I got the pepsi model and am really tempted to get them all seeing your video here. Especially for the price, considering that whole set costs as much as some Seiko and other divers in my price range! My only gripe is that I wish they had matching dial colors or just dial color options in general. Thinking of getting into modding a dial in, but that may be over my head at this moment... Excellent video and commentary and love your collection!

I've had a black 'no fish' version for over a year - it is my 'beach watch' swam many times with it and it has been faultless and solid as a tank. The second hand hits the markers too. If only it were 2-3 mm smaller it would have been perfect but I've come to accept its presence and love it as it is.

I just got a rather more expensive seiko quartz diver that's a lovely watch in its own right, but my duro easily matches it in quality at a fraction of the price, its truly impressive that they've managed to sell this thing at such a great price.

I just ordered my first one from Casio. I have always loved the look of dive watches but I never knew anything about them. So for my first one, the MDV was recommended to me so I ordered it. I love the Marlin on the face, I got the all black variant with a resin strap since it’s going to be my new EDC watch I figured the black will go with most of my wardrobe pretty seamlessly.

I have all 6 of these you can get in the US. I put them on stainless steel bracelets, except for the gold tone one, I put that on a black leather crocodile strap. I also have them in their own watch box like this. Got my black one for $13 at Walmart as well. Bought one for my friend and put it on a stainless steel bracelet as well.

Wanted to mention a watch band for the Duro. I bought one from Long Island Watches. It was a little expensive but it is a solid band.

The Black/Blue, Casio MDV106B-1A1V (2nd from the right) with the half-blue bezel and blue second hand is actually known among Casio collectors as a "Batman" although just like the equally-modifiable Casio AE1200WH-1A is also known as a "Casio Royale" yet has no official connection to the James Bond movies, this is also just a nickname based on the color combination without any official connection between Casio and DC Comics. I have several Casios and think they're awesome watches, regardless of price.

Nice that you got a good assortment of them. I just bought a replacement band for the original resin one than came on mine. Nothing really wrong with the one it came with I just found one I think will look better and be a little more comfortable.

Greg - Casio this year released a smaller 38MM model of the Duro. However - no screw down crown, and no marlin. And only 50 meters of WR. Model number is MDV-10

this blue - rubber marlin version was on my list before the orient ray blue, i had spent 3 months to find this watch in my country but found nothing. Then I found the ray blue and decided to buy the ray one. some months later when I help my colleague to find watch, I found the blue marlin, and I force him to buy the watch so I have someone close to me that have the watch. Now that I already have each diver and dress watch, I never buy anymore, but id someday i walk pass the blue marlin, I will definitely buy it

My one is the one that got away for you. White dial and metal bracelet, but I wear it with a rubber band. I don't wear it a lot since it's huge. But it's neat to have in the collection as most people have the black faced ones.

I smile. In junior high I was wearing a Timex. Senior high I stepped up to a Hanowa diver ("200 vacuum tested"?) mechanical watch I bought in Geneva in 1973. I just dropped it off for a cleaning recently and, sadly, the calendar date complication was unresponsive. Quote to remedy was $463.00! Guess that will go back into the desk drawer. Not as accurate as my gold bezel rim Casio Duro Marlin at < $50. Watches similar to mine are $49.92 on Amazon on 07/23/2024. Unbeatable beater and snorkeling/kayaking choice. Mine runs to no more than +2 seconds PER MONTH!

I have the Batman no fish version (107) probably the best value dive watch there is. And if it does go wrong it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to replace.

Replacing the hands is not as tricky as it seem if you have the right tools. I practiced on a super cheap watch and the problems was mainly that the hands can fly away and you have no clue where they went and when you put them on they might not be completely straight and point up or down so the hands bump in to each other and stop.

The MDV-106 isn't available in the Philippines! When I was just starting out in watches, I was looking for that particular model as well and months later, Casio released the MDV-107 for the international market (including mine) and I'm itching to buy one for myself haha

I've had the black one for 6 months and love wearing it. I ordered the blue one a month ago from Amazon and I got a refund after it failed to arrive, will re order in the new year. I had a super eliminator which died after 5 years which is why I got the Duro.

Greg - & others - do you think Casio ought to design one with a dial color change as is the Blue one ? I LOVE my Blue dial / blue bezel Duro but think the Dial color should change with Bezel color too. I do have the Green Hulk model Invicta Pro Diver Automatic Submariner homage at 40mm its a dead ringer for the real Rolex. Plus its nice to have an automatic movement as Casio seems to stick exclusively to the Quartz movement Thanks for the overview for us Casio-aholics !
