Louise - you really have to get that advice from your teacher who will know your situation better. However I would say don't take exams if you are not ready as that is just a recipe for not getting what you want and stress. Hope that helps. Mr H

I wanna get the calculated f'() (the derivative) not what it would give me at given X... How do I get 3+4X, on screen?? and how can I do a derivative of 3rd,4th,5th degree or more (e.g. f''())?

You need a better calculator than this, this one doesn't compute symbolic equations, only numerical. This feature you're talking about is called CAS (Computer Algebra System), some good calculators that have it are TI 89 or Algebra FX 2.0

+Potato Jose The problem is make your your calculator looks like a standard calculator, some models are banned. This one isn't, it perfect for Edexcel A Level Maths, even some further maths.

I have an exam in two days and the teacher didn’t even tell us we can solve this question in the calculator and the question in my revision sheet are not like yours it’s like fractions and radicals and they want y’ and they didn’t give us what is x and in the exam they said it’s not multiple choices so if u can solve questions like my unhelpful description of the questions that i just described 😅

He is using 1/7 as a value of X, in order to check if he differentiated the given correctly. if not the desired result shown on the calculator will not show up.

would any number work apart from 1/7 such as 1 or 5 because 1/7 seems a bit overly complicated

Ali - the whole point of putting in 1/7 is that you can be sure you are correct as it is an unusual number. 1 would be a very bad choice as when you sub 1 into say 3x^3 and 2x^2+1 you get the same answer and would trick yourself into thinking you did it correct. Subbing in 1/7 is not complicated - the calculator does all the work. You see what I am talking about? CHeers. Mr H

This may be late, but you can assume any value for x since it is the only variable in the equation. It's better to have decimal places in your assumed value for X.

Hi! I'm not that good at maths (I always get B-!!) But my teacher asked if I wanted to do my maths exam in November to try and get a B, as I need one for Chemistry A Level. As you only need 50%ish for a B, I thought this might be possible, although I haven't learnt ANY of unit 3 (the downside!) I have to pay £40 (around that) to do it in November; but if I get a B it'll be the best £40 spent!! I want to know your opinions so I can make a decision and start revising NOW if possible! Thanks :)
