Casio G-Shock GA100-1A1 Initial thoughts

Thank you for actually putting the watch on during the review. I don't understand why everyone else just plays with it in their hands for 10 minutes straight. I wanna see how it looks on a wrist!!!

I bought this watch for after I get done with my USMC boot camp. My recruiter uses a $30 sort of digital watch, and has used that watch for his whole career. He told me that Casio is not only a great military watch, but this specific model is sweet. Great water, shock, and magnetic resistance, a good band and I have a green luminescence hands. Awesome watch especially for the tough jobs.

the magnetic resistance, is for the people who mainly work or at the power plant or somewhere next to a magnetic feild which does desrupt or be affect when made contact

I am a G-Shock wearer. I own a few G-Shock in my collection. I also own the GW-9400-3CR in the olive green. This a very cool G-Shock. I know a lot of people who have this and wear it a lot. I seen a guy on Swamp Monster's. He has the same one you have. I like it also because it all black. I am going to pull the trigger and pick it up. Great video. Keep them coming.

That is the tactical G-Force you have there. It's not supposed to be "bright." If it were any brighter you may be exposed out in the field, which is also why it's a matte finish. Just clarifying. Thanks for the video.

+Mark Hamilton As an infantryman in the Army, we're only allowed to use light with a red or orange hue at night because it travels the least distance. Our headlamps and lights for reading maps are red as well. And as far as the black finish goes, it's compatible with dress and grooming standards when you're in uniform. I think this one was designed for people in the military and law enforcement or people that like that culture. I ordered one recently to wear especially during work.

Thank you for the quality review. I have also been wearing a Minute Machine for years (and more recently an Oakley Hollow Point). Each time I would try a "sport" watch, they just felt too small and too light. Finally decided to give it a shot and started looking at the G shock line. Your review along with the one from X4CTO helped me make the decision. Actually bought the GD100 and couldn't stand the readout. Went back and picked up the GA100-1a1 and couldn't be happier with it. I want people to understand that this is an actual Tactical watch made by Casio. No there is no Luminous on this watch because this watch is supposed to be used by Military and law enforcement etc. This is a stealth type of watch that you are supposed to be able to use in darkness without show your position. If you want an average watch for civilian use with Luminous and backlighted display there are other models from Casio to buy.

I like how the op casually mentions his secondary watch is the Oakley minute machine. That's the review I want to see. The minute machine is my dream watch. I'd own it just to sit on my shelf and admirer it like the piece of art it is. This review was really well done, not too long and just the right amount of information. I will be getting my gshock in about a week.

Dave I actually bought this watch on sale as an alternative to timex. It is far superior to any product timex has come out with so far. This G shock is hard to read most of the time but it is very durable and I will get my money out of it in the long run. I just wish it was easier to read and see.

I have one of these, it's a tactical watch, not really made to be "seen." The backlight is really more of an afterthought. This is made to be stealthy. During the day at least you can see the hands easily, and the digital in certain lighting. Night time, not so much, but that's by design.

you can see the digital time with the led in the dark. just put your finger on the screen beside or under the time and the LED will reflect back letting you see the time.

That's my main gripe with this series also, the light. At night, it does not illuminate the LCD displays at all. You cannot see them at night, so good luck using the alarm, timer or stopwatch after sunset.

I like the illumination color but I agree that it may not be completely lit up to see the smaller details, but when in the field and in the Jungle/Desertor whatever your eyes adjust and the tiniest light can be seen and may work well there. ~ TH

The band is universal (my son wears a blue one) but the actual face is x-large. So it would fit on a wide selection of wrists.

The interface the look of watch reminds me of a airplane cockpit when you look at dials and digital display. Just like in fight jet.

I get the tactical aspects of this watch, but if you're really going to use it in such situations I will give you one tip that might save your life. Whether used at night or day, get a anti-reflective screen protector for it. Despite it's lack of bright lights and colours, the screen is highly reflective and would give away your position more easily than an uncovered scope lens.

Congrats on your first G Shock, very good choice bro... love that all black with white hands. I wish the digital displays would have been backlit too... it's the same on a couple of my analog/digital G's... that's really my only complaint. I am sure that G will give you years of good use... I've never busted a G. If you don't use the light or alarms much that battery can actually last longer than 2 years... I've had a couple of my 2 year rated batteries go significantly longer.

Great video! I love how he picks up the cardboard box and says "its a pretty cool box" lol. And like Leon Strand said below, the light is made dim like that because it is made for military and police use. That's why its basically all black. They wanted to be as low key as possible.

All of these are GA-100, the 1a1, the 1a4er and stuff like that are the color serial. The GA-100 is the actual model/series number.

Variety in package in EU and USA. Nothing more. Good watch would recommende. Since i bought it recently was even cheaper. Mine tin box was bigger 'cause watch stood diferently so it can be used as showcase. Only problem with me is illumination hard to read digital part since it's negative display.

Hold the light illuminator for about 3 seconds and an indicator will show up on the left where its says a.light hold it 45 degrees and the light will stay on longer little tip

Nice review, but I think a lot of the weaknesses you point out are necessary evils when it comes to a "tactical" watch. When you think about things from the "tactical" point of view, the light should not be too bright and only provide the bare minimum necessary to see the time. Also, the watch should not display bright colored (white, yellow, etc) numbers or letters for the same reason. Looking at it from that angle, I would say that the major downfall is the highly reflective crystal.

I got the ga100-1a4 with some red color on it. It looks nice overall but the hour hand which is red in color appears to be not so clear when in the dark even with the light on.
